I have Asperger's with depression and anxiety being a constant companion through my life. It was somehow possible to manage for a long time, and then my dog died... The dog that I got at 13, who was my best friend and teacher, he was MINE, due to family issues I had sole responsibility over his well-being and training. He passed 13 years later, after getting worse since the age of 10 with a bad hip, hearing loss and prostate problems. We had to rush him to the vet at 11 pm because he was hurting and had lost his quality of life. We came home around 1 AM, I hung his now forever empty collar on my bedpost, and fell asleep from emotional exhaustion. I woke up the following morning, looked over to his bed, which was empty, looked over to the bedpost, and remembered... After that, my mind is blank. I lost 6 months. People say I was catatonic, I even had a psychiatrist come to my apartment for evaluation of my mental state and I can't remember that person or encounter at all. Fast-forward 10 years down the line, and here I am. Still no new dog, because whenever I get close and make an effort to get one, once it gets "real" I will have such a panic attack that I cannot overcome it. It will keep going and come back in waves until I've cancelled the dog adoption. This is likely my brain's attempt to shield me from losing another dog, from going through what I did after Max's death. And I am not helped by medicines, not by therapy, in fact psychologists give up on me because this is not something they can easily fix with exposure therapy like agoraphobia or fear of spiders or even "normal" PTSD. I have CPTSD and a very convoluted, complex phobia... I am on SSRIs and Mirtazapine. I tried to treat my issues with cannabis (illegally grown in my home) because I was desperate, and ended up in the emergency psych ward after 9 months of daily use (am clean now). It did absolutely nothing to help me in the long run. I am desperate, and I am hoping, PRAYING that Psilocybin becomes accepted and I can access it... I truly believe that it could help me finally deal with my trauma, and teach my brain that despite the grief and pain, I wouldn't have want to skipped out on having Max in my life for all the money in the world. Please, bring Psilocybin as a treatment to Sweden. We are many, and we are suffering.

First time I did shrooms (a month ago from when this was written) I found so much enjoyment in everything that was around me. It really made me appreciate the world we live on, and that being 19 and completely inexperienced in life was perfectly fine. They showed me that I am who I am, and I have so much going for myself. Big mindset change from the depression I was dealing with; graduating during covid, never feeling good enough, thinking everyone is smarter and better than me. It’s almost like those mushrooms made me look at myself and be like: “why am I down on myself? I am who I am and I like who I am. I’m wasting energy on being sad when I can put it towards something way more important.” I’ve tripped a couple times now, nothing but good to say about them. From one experience with acid and a life long passion for studying psychology (independently) I can tell you it very simply does one thing; It turns your world inside out. What I mean by this requires the presumption that life occurs in the brain. The universe works mentally and it really is all in your head. However there is a barrier between your inner world and your outer world. Psychedelics remove that barrier. This is why you see with your eyes what your brain feels. This is why people who feel scared may see/experience scary visuals & hallucinations (otherwise known as a bad trip) meanwhile on the other hand, people who take the psychedelic with a happy headspace see beautiful things. A good trip can destroy the users illusion of seperation from the universe. We are not separate from the universe but in fact we are the universe experiencing itself limited nobly by our subjectively perception. When people realize that we are all actually little pieces of a beautiful painting there comes a blisful feeling of love & compassion for everything and everyone; this is best demonstrated by the great hippie counter culture). At high doses many believe to encounter divine beings & so these psychedelics have become the staple of many religions. They've been used by many ancients civilizations all over the world ranging anywhere from the indigenous Americans to the ancient Egyptians. The psychedelic experience surfaces your inner psych and once everything about you is surfaced, you are free to pick and chose which traits about yourself you admire and which you can do without; e.g. completely terminating a life-long smoking addiction from one day to another. Meditation alone can be said to be psychedelic since breathing releases a natural psychedelic compound called DMT however such a tiny amount of the compound is released that it can, at best, be considered micromanaging (meaning taking a vert small portion of a psychedelic. A portion so mild that you don't experience any visuals or even notice it at all) Also mediation isn't something that is simply done (at least not according to my book, "A Systemic Course in the Ancient Tantric Techniques of Yoga & Kriya" by Swami Satyananda Saraswati) Actual meditation is said to be a state that takes years of practice to reach so meditation isn't something a doctor can simply prescribe to someone who's struggling with mental health & wants a more immediate solution. Meditation can only have similar effects over the course of it's slow perfection which just isn't feasible for the average working class citizen. I do believe that we should all meditate daily, however the majority of us don't have the time. Even though it can be done for only 10 minutes a day, it will be very hard to errode a psychological trauma with such constrains. We just don't have the economic liberty to finance a long therapeutic trip to Brazil like Bruce Banner did in The Incredible Hulk 2008. In the movie, Bruce Banner goes to Brazil and is seen practicing the art of yoga & mediation which eventually allows him to gain control of hulk. It does not happen over night but the movie serves a good metaphor for how meditation can slowly align us to gain control of our life. We first control our breath, then our thoughts & slowly but surely everything else becomes more easily to control in our lives. But a more ideal solution for someone who seeks instant mental health solutions would be to be prescribed a psychedelic by a trained professional who can guide you through the trip. This is seen in yet another superhero movie. In Batman Begins Bruce Wayne has a psychedelic experience while training with The League of Shadows in Himalayan mountains. Fun fact, the hymalayas actually has historic significance to meditation & spirituality as it's a place where the Hindus believe gods go to meditate. Anyway, while in these sacred mountains, there is a scene where Bruce Wayne inhales the fumes of a burning blue flower. Inhaling the blue flower allows Bruce to almost immediately process his deeply rooted fear of bats. He then goes on to become Batman. The blue flower he used could be a representation of the Blue Lotus flower; a psychedelic drug that is famous for it's depictions in Ancient Egyptian carvings). It's important to notice that we don't even have the technology today that the ancient Egyptians had 2000 years ago so if they worshiped that little psychedelic flower maybe it was for a good reason. Anyway it seems as though the world is ready to finally give psychedelics the medicinal praise it deserves. Maybe they hold the truth to unfolding our hidden superpowers. By overcoming what we fear most, we can become invincible. I might make a video going greater in depth on the matter so stay tuned if you're interested

Well actually for me no bc long before doing psychedelics for the first time I already did meditation, horsemanship, art, weed lol and music and in a way all that and how I grew up connected me to nature, animals and people and made me appreciate the vast beauty in the world. So when I took psychedelics for the first time it took what I knew I was and I knew I could be and amplified it. The one thing psychedelics really showed me that I still hadn’t overcome at that point was that I was often worried the way I was living wasn’t the most money making way of living and was worried other people would look at me and see someone who doesn’t try or as a loser but after the trip I realised this is what makes me happy and fulfils me and if others don’t get it then they don’t get it. I’m finally happy for myself and don’t need others to be happy for me. I don’t need shit tons of money bc I’m already rich with what my life gave me. My friends can choose the paths that are expected for them and that will get them the most money but if they’re not doing it for themselves they’ll never see the true beauty in life.

I once had a mushroom trip, me and a group of close friends went for a hike in the woods and each took a couple grams of some really potent shrooms we ended up never getting up the mountain because one of my friends got paranoid about bears. After we got back to the car my friend(who definitely should not have been driving) brought us to a different view point on top of another mountain. When we got there I was already tripping pretty hard and I started to freak out so I walked 15 or 20 feet away from my friends to ground myself. I remember putting on a random pandora radio on my phone, and the song “hey there Delilah” came up I felt so connected to the song and I could feel the artists emotions. I was looking off the mountain and seeing all the lights in the valley, and I began to cry, not in a bad way but in a good way like I was so great full for the life I was given and the fact that I was put on this oh so beautiful earth. I never had been so great full to just exist. There’s something about psychedelics that just show you the bigger picture about life. Ever since that day I’ve always taken each day of life with so much gratitude, I appreciate nature much more, and I feel that I care about the well being of others a lot more after that day, and I have been less concerned about having every little thing that I used to think I wanted.

I have used mdma 4 times between 2018 and 2020 in different situations each time and it changed me forever, especially my third and fourth uses. I overcame many sources of anxiety and my background anxiety (anxiety that is subtle but everpresent, always in the background). It reduced my tendency to compare with others along with envy and jealousy. Now, the main thing it did for me was delete my fear of abandonment that didn´t allow me to enjoy my friendships to the fullest. It also made me love meditation even more than I already did, especially any meditation exercise where you focus on your body sensations.

I have done both multiple psychedelic trips and been to those 10 silent meditation retreats. Both are excellent/supreme ways to break free from my rigid thinking and behavior patterns.... But over and over again, I realize that the insights/changes only last for a while. If I want to have actual long lasting changes, I would HAVE TO have strong follow through after the psychedelics/meditation retreat. Don't count on simply taking psychedelics or going to meditation retreats and then problems are solved forever. You still have to do lots of work afterward, otherwise you might have wasted the experience. Psychedelic/meditation retreats are super effective fuses, but you need to bring the bomb, then you get the BOOOOM.

LSD and mushrooms completely changed my whole outlook on life. I became a better version of myself This experience gave me a lot of confidence about my self and my body. A bunch of bad thought / behavior patterns were broken. One of these was pretty bad OCD that made me wash my hands a lot. It gave me a lot of hope that things will be fine, this is the one thing that I heard throughout the trip: Everything is alright. The main reason for the trip was my severe depression and it definitely helped me (although it's not gone). Before all I could do was lay in bed. I believe since 1965 in meditation before, during, and after session(s) of psychedelics. Before : meditation makes some one familiar with one's own mind and to let go thoughts, emotions and perceptions. During : meditation give the tools to surf the experience, to let the subtance teaches what one has to learn and to deepen and stabilize the experience. After : meditation helps to integrate the experience to ordinary life. My heroes are Stanislav Grof and Rick Doblin

A friend and I used LSD to open our perception and understanding decades ago. The first time was pure euphoria and a lot was lost but nuggets came back with us. The second time was more conscious and understood we talked so deeply till sunrise, experienced music, and vocal tones, psychedelic lights and TV. The next few weeks we had great conversations about recollections and possible correlations. Then more people were introduced and it turned into partying. The course was lost but very raw revelations came. Haven't done it in ages after a couple bad trips. The life kicked my ass and I fell apart. But the lessons I carry from those experiences were ultimately what allowed me to heal myself and allowed some inhabitions and cognitive dissidence to be alleviated in an unaltered state. Current study and research into human behavior sparked a fire stirred by those "trips" I would use mushrooms as a tool to further some thoughts on research if the opportunity arose. Maybe micro dosing shrooms or liquid.

@9:38 Pollan nails an important aspect - based on my experience as well - how experience can be powerful beyond banal words. Even at a young age, i found language and concepts unsatisfactory or ineffectual and limited as far as describing reality or truths - reminiscent of Wittgenstein -- and this insight became much clearer during and after psychedelic experiences. Pollan also does well to highlight the political history, and I appreciate Leary’s efforts - he did us a favor by stimulating the anti-war movement.

Xernus i've done it over 15 times, and its best to do it with your girlfriend and you guys might even get a better connection too, since i felt it has helped the relationships i have. Try to go to a setting that is comfortable for you, preferably nature, since it usually is the most calming setting during a shroom trip, try to do it during the day since you might not sleep if you take it late, other than that, enjoy, let the trip happen, and take it in a short span of time and you'll get greater effects.

Depending on how attached you are to your ego and what proccesses are going on in your mind, a psychadelic experience can be a really hard hit to your brain and you can get sick. For sure if you have good karma and support, it can be, at the end, one of the most meaningfull experiences of your life, but you will never know how its going to end up. Be careful. It may not be good for everyone, but for some it can be life changing, and the healing path can be really hard, but there is a chance of a bright ending.

For me it was just a fun experience. Nothing life-changing. Just fun to experience something totally new, some pleasure and a lot of laugh. I'm so happy that psychedelics are finally getting recognition. SSRI meds kill your soul, psychedelics and cannabis reignite it. At least thats my personal experience. To those people who have never tried them, sure it can have those kaleidoscopic visuals and color changes, but the biggest effect is kinda reconnecting with your inner child. Everything feels new and fascinating, the wall between your subconscious and conscious mind drops for a few hours, and your personality and traits just kinda reset for the duration of the trip. You live in that moment, there and now. You have none of those petty feelings, you have increased empathy, appreciation for people and things you have. And a mental reset does good every once in a while. Psychedelics really did save my life ❤️🧬🌻☺️ But if they're done in an improper arrogant way in a bad place, it can also be the most terrifying experience of your life because of amplified emotions. Do your research, and don't be an idiot.

My experiences with psilocybin and LSD in the 1960s enabled me to recover from the PTSD brought about by sustained sexual abuse (by my stepfather), from age 7 to my emancipation at age 15…and my subsequent heroin addiction. It also opened the way for me to discover my Spiritual language. I have been a Wiccan since 1967, and, although I have made a broad study of many faiths and their sacred writings, I have never deviated from that choice. I learned that there are many ways to achieve the same state of conscience without the drug, once the drug had shown me the way. It is like receiving a map, with which you can find your way back to that point of Divine connection. I’m glad to see research looking at this again.🖤🇨🇦

I tried LSD when i was 17 years old. never tried anything else except alcohol. turned out I took about 400-500 micro-grams. It was a traumatic and humbling experience and my supplier ditched me in the forest when i freaked out. Luckily I had a friend that knew what I was in for and tried to distracted me and calm me down. I would not recommend anyone that high of a dose the first time. I dont know if it made me a better person but it taught me how little I know and that significance is relative.

This video brings tears to me... SO many new truths (for ME) are in here. It was released after my first round and I use this video to explain to others what it did for me.

Me and my best friend went on a trip together. He's done it alone before but it was my first time. I have never been a spiritual person but there is no words that come close to describing the experience. All concepts were destroyed. I knew everything and nothing. I was everywhere and nowhere. My friend said he felt a presence. I felt like I was the presence, like I was a part of everything. I thought I understood from descriptions of it what it was like, but it is incomprehensible.

i tried acid over the summer. It started off pleasant, my ceiling was very fun to view, and I haven't felt as happy as i've ever been before. I looked at myself in the mirror, looking at all my facial scars, everything i hated and thought 'hey, i think i actually look really pretty'. I cannot recall a time in my life when i've ever felt pretty, or genuinely good looking without any offhand comments from the inner voice that sits in my skull. I suffer from PTSD, depression and anxiety. I can't possibly remember everything i felt but i do want to trip sometime soon. Yea man, our parents grew up in times where it was normal to trust the government , news , and any information projected to the masses. Now we live in a time where we have an exponentially bigger amount of information and things can’t be kept under wraps anymore, and these people who grew up struggle to change their mindsets . Many of them look at marijuana and psychedelics as ‘drugs’ in the same category of coke and heroin. I think ab this all the time, and how I could change my parents minds with words, but I don’t even think they could understand without trying it

7:43 I had an experience recently, and what Sam Harris says here resonates. I had been wondering if there was more than there was, was very analytical and atheist in my views. I thought it was possible but was not convinced. So, I had my experience ...and I was given a message by a presence that felt ageless and infinite, and the message was that I was loved completely, we all are, we are all important, and that love is the end all be all, and not just given that message, but the presence imparted that pure love to me. (And that's ALL the presence imparted. I think most of our religions are utter bullshit flawed control-freak interpretations of this pure presence.) It's like the most potent love we feel in this life, in the throws of passion with your soul mate, that's like a match compared to the bonfire of the pure love imparted to me. I recall shock and surprise at the intensity, like something you couldn't possibly imagine feeling better, feeling better and better and better, a nirvana. I was a sobbing joyful grateful mess for an hour. I am not surprised that many come away saying it was the most profound experience of their life, not anymore. It was for me. Anyone else's experience may vary of course, and there are bad experiences, just ensure that you do your due diligence, as in all things.

During this time I didn't hear anything but I had a sense that told me that this is the formation and process of all conciousness flowing through a perfectly peaceful mind. Ever since that revelation, my mind has been at one with everything that I do, I have an incredible sense of self and a beautiful relationship with my mind and my empathy has increased to levels where I don't just feel other people I understand them and this allows me to offer the most helpful hand to those in their darkest times. Back in July was when I decided to take my first dose of shrooms after 2 trips from LSD. I kinda forced myself to take these shrooms knowing that it probably wasent a good idea. I took 3.5 grams and for the first 4-5 hours, it was complete HELL. I fell into this loop and I wanted to stop tripping so BAD. I asked God to take away all of this negative energy I was getting and this when the trip completely turned around. My anxiety was at 0. I had NONE. I wasent paranoid no more and I felt at peace with myself. Hours 4-8 is where I started self reflecting on myself and knew I needed changes in my life. I have been smoking weed since I was 16, I am now 18 and ever since then life has been different both in GREAT ways and also very way ways. I knew I needed to stop and was always ignoring it until now. I have been suffering from depression and anxiety ever since and shrooms allowed me to clearly find a way to better myself. I started journaling on shrooms which I have never done before lol and I started putting down my experience with the shrooms. One of the best things I have ever done for myself and will continue to do it the rest of my life(journaling). Ever since then I have looked at life in a different perspective. LSD and Shrooms are very similar in the sense they completely rip apart your ego and allow you to look at yourself objectively and allow you to look at the world in a different way, a beautiful way making you appreciate your life. And for that I will for ever be humble.

Ayahuasca changed my life and I wish I had more access to this medicine. I had to travel to Peru to be part of an Ayahuasca workshop in 2013. It's when I got back to Florida that my life began to change dramatically. It's like Ayahuasca helped to rewire my brain for positive change in my life and my circumstances seemed to shift. I strongly believe that if Ayahuasca was studied more in the USA and we developed a sound method of administration in a workshop setting (preferably in nature) our culture would dramatically shift and we would become more in harmony with nature and with each other if it became more widely available as a therapeutic tool. It would help to de-polarize us and instill a deeper sense of understanding and cooperation between opposing mind sets. It would help people become more mindful of the impacts we are having on each other.

OMG, this is literally my experience doing psilocybin. I'd been feeling depressed following a painful breakup, as well as things I've been carrying around nearly all my adult life. I'd experimented with mushrooms before, but this time I went in with the specific intent to work something through. The trip didn't seem as strong as previous ones, with no visual hallucinations whatsoever, but after a while the first thing I noticed was just how darned good I was feeling. I was able to really 'vibe' with the music I had on in the background, appreciating the complex song birds were singing outside. It literally felt as if my 'default network' or part of my mind dedicated to controlling and judging got turned down a notch, and I was able to see the world and things around me anew, unconcerned with (internalised) value judgments (nothing wrong with value judgments per se - frankly, I don't think being a tad 'judgmental' can be avoided - but in my case, this self-judging faculty might very well be just a tad too active for my wellbeing). Frankly, I felt 'normal' as in emotionally open, genuinely interested in things and observant for the first time in ages. It literally felt as if my depression was tied up with being too invested in my default 'reptilian' network concerned with controlling, judging, acquiring, coming across a certain way, worrying and all the pettiness that comprises human nature, but that something else was possible too that was more expansive, curious, empathic and of a 'higher' cognitive order. Psilocybine isn't a miracle cure, I still have my problems, for which I'm seeing a psychotherapist, but the experience was nothing short of profound and has left me with a new sense of possibilities and where I want to be.

my hope is for some insight with this question: I have been suffering from severe depression for 3+ years now. just over a year ago, I decided I would try shrooms locally sourced here in Canada, to try and administer the effects I keep hearing about like in this video. I will say after my first dose, 2g, I definitely tripped, but what was, in my opinion most profound was how I started to see the world. I saw myself floating in space near Jupiter (when I was less conscious) I felt the magnitude of "scale"... it was overwhelming... then suddenly as I became grounded again, nothing seemed as serious. My worry, anxiety, almost immediately disappeared. My depression over the next few months to a year started to lift, and I became functional again. BUT this is where I'd appreciate insight... Nothing matters anymore. I'll admit, I am more free because I'm not overwhelmed by emotion 24/7, and exhausted by it... but because I see we are insignificant, nothing really brings me much joy either. I'd say I've become a version of a Nihilist...why? I mean I still see importance of right and wrong, but on a much smaller scale. I do not see use in institutions, Im easily annoyed at social constructs as I see them as irrelevant and a waste of resources. I don't know, I figured when my depression would lift, I'd see the beauty in nature again, but as much as I enjoy seeing the sunrise and set, it feels forced. I don't know, it's hard to articulate who exactly I feel... or maybe I feel less and that's the problem? Has anyone else had this experience? Where after a specific trip, you just see life for what it is, nothing. we are just temporary micro organisms on a temporary planetary organelle swirling around in a universe that is a scale beyond our comprehension. And from this you feel a sense of peace?

Yea I know exactly what you mean I've done massive doses mdma lsd shrooms and idk if its helped me that much like these people are saying tbh. I think I would be in a much better place right now if I decided to stay sober. Depression has just gotten worse

Thx! And amazing that we still fail to appreciate what seems to be the real power of things like psychedelics, meditation, or even therapy... which is the ability to change our sense of _Meaning_ about Life and being in the World. And arguably even our basic drives like competition, sex, security, politics, tribalism, etc. are all dependent on our constant search for the Narrative, Story, etc.... aka 'Meaning' in whatever we do.
