An innovative way of looking at the examination. Your explanation makes sense to replace MSE with Psy examination. However what I feel is that we are the ones who stigmatize the word mental. What if we educate the patient to accept the word mental as any medical term and help them overcome rhe stigma. But all the other reasons you mention for change of terms are well accepted.

Cardiac, pulmonology and neurological examination are done mostly by physicians and specialists. It is exclusive and apt there. But in the mental health field we have somehow included/?empowered everybody/anybody to do mental status examination (not restricting to the physician and specialists) This "psychiatric examination" term attempts to bring in the exclusivity to specialists and improves integration of Psychiatry further as the medical field.. Any small step in that direction is always welcome. Best wishes sir
