Yeah I have this catch-22 situation where I keep feeling like I'm falling for her but realizing that she is literally teaching seduction. So it's like verification that she's definitely a professional and knows what she's doing. It's like I have no idea who she really is but I keep feeling like I want to place more trust in her than I would for a normal stranger. Basically demonstrating how effective it could be used against me if someone did. The fact that she's able to verify everything she's saying while she's explaining it it's really effective. I really appreciated this topic being covered; it was a great Podcast.

To be successful we need a mixture of competence and charisma. To be charismatic:(trustable +reliable) 1. Not standing too close to someone. 2.Use your hands to express your words (not jazz hands) 3. Gift people success words 4. Point out similarities between you and the person 5. Don’t do up talk. (Important how you say words not just what you say)

It helps to be feeling good about yourself - and life. I never feel vulnerable socially because I love life and people from all walks of life. I don’t “separate” myself from others. I enjoy meeting strangers because I don’t see anyone as a stranger. I believe that we are all One, from every place, culture, race, religion and every walk of life. Everyone is my friend until they prove otherwise and if they aren’t I might feel sad or down for a few moments but then quickly accept it and walk away. Also: humor is your best friend in making friends and connecting with others. Yes, warmth and confidence - and giving.

Once I became more comfortable in my own skin and started living for me the easier it is is to engage others. I was watching this and thinking, I haven't experienced social rejection in the longest. Probably because I surround myself with others that care about self-love, self-development and are focused on being their best version. When I was blaming the world for my problems and being self-absorbed, i did experience many of the social rejection cues she mentioned.

Great reference to Dr. Ramani. She says often that she just doesn’t trust charismatic people because in her experience, they are almost always insincere and narcissistic. I’ve been told that I have good presence…and I strive for that balance of warmth and competence…but I am trying to make others comfortable and not necessarily to advance my own agenda. So respecting Dr. Ramani as I do, I’ve really been questioning this approach. Should I not be striving for charisma, but just for an appropriate level of warmth? But being a (small) woman in a logical male field, I worry about being “too warm.” I have been told, too, by other women and even warmer men, that I am too expressive and personal and “hand-gesturey.” I am concerned about being perceived as too smooth and manipulative or as “outside of my integrity.”
@micawoodburn925010 күн бұрын
Sorry for being late, but my interpretation is that charisma = warmth + confidence, and finding a balance that works for YOU. She didn’t say everyone needs to be 50% competent, 50% warm. To be honest, as women we are perceived as having higher warmth regardless of our intention I would say. Some people do bring in some more competence cues to kind of balance it out, some people go overboard. If you feel the need to bring more competence cues to your workplace interactions, do what you need to do. Maybe it will change others’ perception of you for the better.

My biggest takeaway is smiling at the sides of my eyes. I just used that during my performance, and I experienced better connection with my audience.
When I took exams in college, I would think in terms of mastering the material and winning the top grade, rocking the class, LOVING the material, feeling like I won the prize just by being able to go to this college and study what I had ALWAYS wanted to do all my life. I saw exams as a joy. I rewarded myself instantly by first answering all the ones where I knew the answers. That got my confidence racing. Once all those were done, I did the ones I wasn't sure about. It always worked.

Knowledge is power, understanding is wisdom. This is an educational video on the different cues of charisma. People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care. Charismatic leaders utilize a wide range of nonverbal warmth and likeability cues. They display genuine smiles, maintain positive eye contact, use a variety of gestures, orient their torsos toward those with whom they are engaging, touch others during conversations, and so forth.

The “guy nod” is real. I was taught this a few years ago. When I’m in an unfamiliar space if I make eye contact with another man, I give one quick nod, hold the eye contact for a couple seconds (during which they often nod back), then look away. This gesture says “I acknowledge your presence with respect” but I am neither deferring to you nor dominating you. Unlocking this skill was a game changer.

Hey Lewis your content is better than a college can ever teach. I listen to these podcasts and walk away with knowledge wisdom and an overall well-being. I'm so happy that I found this channel. I have recommended it to others and they all say the same thing. They say wow why isn't this taught in high schools why isn't this taught in colleges it's amazing I want to thank you for bringing this content to the masses. Keep doing what you are doing it is awesome.

I am literally watching an interview I did and nodding at ALL my cues that I had no idea I was even doing. The humble hands, the hands in general (showing numbers), the distance between ear and neck and the more comfortable I got the more I opened up. My voice. OMG!!! Major majorrrrrr MINDBLOWN!

Charisma is why narcissists are so successful. Dr. Ramani Durvusula says she goes running the other way when she sees a charismatic person. She likes the quiet people in the corner. Judging by my two marriages I'd say she is on to something. 💕

so people who watch this video, for self-improvement, and discipline themselves to become better....are now AVOIDED by Dr Durvusula? For getting better? interesting.

I love this discussion so much, I have to say: she is saying so many things that can be followed by "that's what she said" that it would have been impossible for me to not smile or say it I know it is childish or is Michael Scott in me too strong but anyhow 🤣 love you both

The balance of warmth and competence makes perfect sense considering we have two hemispheres. Objective rational thought is only half your brain(logic, language, arithmetic ) the other deals in recognizing emotions, faces and melody. Basically our culture teaches to use half our brain to ignore the other and we wonder why people are depressed and anxious. Only thinking objectively is how you end up living a life of regrets.

Beautiful Interview. One of the BEST 'Take Aways' for me was a WONDERFUL REMINDER. When WE receive A QUE from another... Wether it be Verbal, or subtle Body Language.... The KEY TO TRUE DIPLOMATIC COMMUNICATION is in ASKING OURSELVES: I See, Hear, and or FEEL that.... Now ' How can I HONOR IT' ? 😘💖🙏🌎✌🏼
