I think a little fear is healthy at times. Just saying, go with your gut. Just always be aware of your surroundings. Don't put yourself in a preventable, unsafe situation. And remember, the only behavior/reaction you can predict is your own.

Really honest and interesting content. I also appreciate it that you do so much introspection, although I thought you are more a CBT-guy and not psychodynamic. Also nice that you mention the stereotype of the violent psychopath, it’s far too common. Greetings from Austria ;)

Thank you, thank u, ty!! Wow! It was hard at first, to not pause & comment during your video. We're speaking the same language. I work in a BA receiving hospital in ED Psych Intake dept. Omg! You are rare. You are genuine & brave for speaking up! Literally, every question you answered (no matter how absurd) you were respectful & hopefully planted a sees 🤗 I laughed, I cried... Thank u Soo much for your honesty, vulnerability, & bravery! That's a very rare thing in my world. I'm not a psychologist, but have a BA in it...lol I do however, have the privilege of working with a like-minded Psychologist. I feel like a support group might be beneficial. I feel her frustration on a daily basis. And I genuinely adore her. Omg! She works so hard🤗🤩 And you know the rest. At the end of the day, we say the Serenity Prayer 🙏

New editing?? Love this video Ali! Also, as someone who's working on their undergraduate degree I was recommended to go through therapy if I ever wanted to become a therapist. From what I can say thus far, therapy is NOT easy work but it makes me even more excited to go into this field! Cheers.

Yup! I used to edit my videos myself but now I have an amazing editor (www.changdiana.com). She did this video and the last one. Lots more amazing ones coming now on a weekly basis. Totally agree about therapy. To sit in the therapist's seat you really need to know what it feels like to sit in the patient's seat.

Ah, 20 minutes of "how do I carefully answer this so I don't get sued" 😅 Kidding, but too many people get sue happy nowadays. You brought up forensic psychology. You have my attention. My specialty in my criminal justice master's degree is in forensic mental health. And yes, the number of times people respond to that with "oh, like on CSI"; it might as well be one of those if I had a nickel for every time sayings. Although I did take as many forensic science courses as I could, even graduate level, since my department was housed in the Los Angeles Regional Crime Lab.

I see where you were going with your comment about hypnosis (people often don't understand what it really is) but I feel like APA's Division 30 would highly disagree with your statement that "[hypnosis] does not actually exist in a therapist's office." There are entire textbooks and PhD level courses on using hypnosis in psychotherapy settings. Gary Elkins over at Baylor does some phenomenal research on hypnosis in therapeutic contexts.

Heyyy Dr.Ali, I want to have your take on this question. How do you think covid has impacted people and will in the future especially teenagers and children. Teenagers because it definitely has been challenging for them with adapting to the new methods of education and stress management along with covid where everyone is on guard. I've heard stories of students giving up and committing suicide which is obviously unfortunate....... And also children (babies), seeing everyone and their family members masked (have their faces covered) whenever they go out and not interacting much with people. Because its what they are seeing through their eyes. Will this situation make them more awared as they grow up or will it make them afraid of the environment outside or make them depressed individuals in the future? What do you see the future of the mental health of this generation. Would love to have your opinion on this ☺️❤️ New Subscriber! Love your channel.

Once, probably my 3rd year of grad school. Went up to them after their keynote at a conference to express my gratitude for their work and how much it influenced me. They were...kinda awkward about it. I have a very awkward photo of us together during that awkward moment as a memento.
