We all know someone with psychopathy.
psychopathyis....
/ psychopathyis
But few know the truth about it. We’re helping change that… by helping you know the signs. Know about treatment options and resources. And know you’re not alone.
Lillyth Quillan was the first parent to publicly use her name and her face and say she was the mother of a child with Conduct Disorder. In 2014, she created and founded Parents of Children with Conduct Disorder (PCCD), a Facebook-based support group for parents and other caregivers of these children. Over the last six years, Lillyth has personally spoken or communicated with thousands of families. She remains as dedicated to the cause of including non-intimate partner violence in the national Domestic Violence conversation, early treatment for our children, and political action as the day she started PCCD.
Lillyth joined us on Zoom to discuss what it is like to have a child with Psychopathy.

Despite everything she must have gone through with her child, it's still clear that she's still always loved and cared for him

I have tried for twenty seven years to get through the things that my son has put me through 😢

My son's experience at school (as well as mine) was equally horrible, especially since he'd been remived from all mainstream classes. He thought I had some kind of magic power to get him out of individualized special ed (being alone with the special ed teacher away from other kids most of the time). A child psychotheratist once told me ... that the reason he always hangs out with the bad kids is that "mentally ill people cannot see the mental illness in other mentally ill people." The normal people friends he had ... the mothers would call me and say "I think the boys need to take a break from each other," and one mother called to say he'd pulled a knife on her daughter.

I feel so much for this woman, our society is not set up to help kids or parents in these situations. Being neurodivergent and trying to act like everyone else is exhausting. This woman went through the wringer and then some.

How is his social life now ? Is he in college and does he have a job?

That feeling they all had of not liking him was because he was pretending so hard, he gave them an uncanny valley effect socially, they were subconsciously protecting themselves from someone that wasn't right.

Oh my! This is SO familiar! My child would 'make friends' with the 'nice' kids at each new school. And then (of course) he'd steal from them or cause damage or be violent, or whatever, until the parents wouldn't allow him in their house any more. And I had to find the money to settle their losses. So, he went on to the next-down-in-niceness kids, and the same , inevitably happened. It was *always* THEIR fault that the friendships ended, because if they were *real* friends they would understand that he wasn't stealing, he just 'borrowed' things (then lied about having them) or it was someone else's fault that he broke windows etc because THEY threw something to him and 'by accident' he threw it back and broke x, y, z (which, of course I also had to pay for). He was always, and I mean *always* the 'victim' and would sob and feel very sorry for HIMSELF. Eventually he ran out of 'good' kids and was left with the more criminal element - who taught him a LOT. EVERY teacher absolutely hated him - which is so hard for him (although he appeared not to care, and relished annoying them), but as a parent it's heartbreaking to see your child on such a decline while not being able to help in any way. Cops told me (when he disappeared and I was forced to contact them about my 'missing child' - for the third time in a week), that what he needed was a good hiding. I didn't find their solution of child abuse to be particularly helpful. I stopped going to the parents' evenings at the school eventually because it was the same thing every time.... "He's intelligent but won't apply himself. He's disruptive and stops other children from studying, and he's a bad influence in class." As if I did't know!!!! My heart really goes out to you. I wish I'd known back then what I know now, but we live (if we're fortunate) and learn. Sadly. There is no good ending, here.

Her son would be a good fit to the Navy Seals, SWAT, or something were merciless and fearlessness is required. Also could be a good mercenary in some private security company.

Have you ever been one of these? I'm guessing not. Having mercy is a crucial part of the job. If you are merciless you should never be in such a job, and they try to weed such people out in screening processes

Sounds like he had a great time hurting all the kids and the other kids were the ones having a bad time, and then eventually sold a sob story about wanting to connect to the enquiring mother because all ASPD's do is lie.

I am the person who reviews the comments. I only have time to review comments on our newer videos. But we'd love to hire someone to continue to monitor comments on all of our videos - we just can't afford that right now. If you'd like, please make a donation at www.psychpopathyis.org to help our organization fund an employee to review all of our KZbin video comments. Thanks for watching our KZbin channel!

Yeah, her son definitely has ADD, but he’s not a psychopath; she is. ADHD and psychopathy are mutually exclusive, so you cannot have both. People with ADD have extreme levels of empathy, and psychopaths have none. What kind of mother shows her face on camera, while she calls her son a psychopath?

A mom who is brave enough and tough enough to do what almost no other parent would do. And thank goodness for her. Saying that your child has psychopathy should not be thought of as slandering your child but rather, as describing your child's mental health condition. Who would feel this way if a parent said "my child has depression" or "my child has schizophrenia". Psychopathy is no different, in this regard.

ADHD and psychopathy are rather cloesly related. Even autism, which appears to be the opposite of psychopathy, can co-exist.

A google search will show you you are extremely wrong. Example 1: "Psychopathy and ADHD are highly comorbid disorders, possibly linked to the underlying trait of impulsivity. It is therefore likely that ADHD symptoms are also of importance when studying cognitive functioning linked to psychopathy." Example 2: "Psychopathy has frequently been associated with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) because some of their symptoms overlap. Both, patients with ADHD and individuals who score high on psychopathy, often show drug abuse, antisocial behavior, unstructured lifestyle, or sensation-seeking." Example 3: "Research findings support that there could be a connection between the diagnosis of ADHD and psychopathic personality (Dalsgaard et al., 2002). Studies have shown that both ADHD and conduct problems in children are risk factors for the development of psychopathy in adulthood, especially since ADHD is a common psychiatric disorder in the general population"
