The insight that Erik Goodwyn gave that the affect is right, and the perception and mental framework are incorrect, is profound for us all not just those suffering from psychosis.

Hi again, @alexanderhomoky1140, we're delighted to work with such a fine medical practitioner as professor Goodqwyn. We share so many views, independently developed. If all psychiatrists were as humane, skilled in relating, and had such a depth of knowledge as he has, the therapy world would be a very much better place. Kindest Regards, Steve & Pauline

There appears to be a collective shift toward emotionality and away from common sense, rational thinking, and logic. Presumably from the shift at the level of instinct from the fear created by the pandemic and it's measures, which appears to coincide with the trickster archetype of the collective unconscious. A collective psychosis? I've experienced intense affect all my life, but I've never before experienced the overwhelming intensity of emotion I've felt in the last couple years.
@jamesdrew6024
@jamesdrew6024 Жыл бұрын
This certainly seems to be the case, especially when you look at the way in which our present culture tries to make sense of the world. Since affect has a higher energy potential than cognition, it allows faster access to instinct-level actions; however this valency also makes it an effective lever for neuroses and complexes to pull on, and in doing so they can cap our energy and twist our instincts. In other words, it's helpful to distinguish between 'healthy' affect and 'neurotic' affect. Neurotic affect is often reinforced at the cognitive level, and conversely affect may be rational and sensible - so what seems like a polarity between 'reason' and 'emotion' is better reframed as a question of how to achieve an healthy alignment between different levels of consciousness.

When Prof. Goodwyn is giving his account (of when somebody is feeling that he lives in a world where one can't trust anyone, then things like the spraying of poisons in the atmosphere makes sense to that person) reminded me of Thanatos, which is another kind of "homeostasis" establishing (in the sense of a self-regulating system), because in the case of that untrusting person it also seems to re-arrange perception, action, cognition etc.. Not that it need necessarily be similar to a down spiral as in Thanatos per sé but in that what Prof. Goodwyn mentions from the 4:00 min mark onwards, seems to describe some form of a homeostatic setting. This, though, would be different from proper homeostasis with the unconscious, or, from Thanatos. Is there a Psycho-Systems Analysis approach to other regulating systems as well, given, for example, when one is neither as bad off to have Thanatos working in him, but at the same token not lucky enough to being - as of yet - able to tap into proper homeostasis, say, through self-hypnosis? Or would this "merely" be the very definition of an identified complex which might be so close to one's own lens that one couldn't make it out to be what it actually is, namely, a complex? In that sense, I thought it might be a valid question to ask if there might be an even more encompassing state which captures awareness, conception, cognition, action - other than a complex.
@JungToLiveBy
@JungToLiveBy Жыл бұрын
Hi again, @frankoskovia, thank you for your comment and your questions. There are many 'field-resonan't' contributing systems, to homeostasis. We consider it to include biological homeostasis, and the Pankseppian instincts and drives, that compel action in the world to meet extended biological and psychosocial needs. As homeostatic 'information' is superpositioned across many systemic-representationalstates, simulatneously, it forms a 'field as-such', with the field being regulated both 'within-level' and across levels. Fundamenatlly, homesotasis, as a field-regulator, can be said to be 'conscious' in that it is a 'Complexity of Information that represents itself, to itself' Steven T Richards in:Maria Sonia Goergen & Ana Delgadillo Hernández (2022) editors: 42nd Bulletin of the International Neuropsychoanalysis Society, Neuropsychoanalysis (Journal) pub. Routledge Taylor Francis Group DOI: 10.1080/15294145.2022.2144935 To link to this article: doi.org/10.1080/15294145.2022.2144935. The 'state' of a human being, at any one time, is a biopsychosoical profile, that tends towards optimal adaptation, but will settle for a dynamic equlibrium, at sub-optimal levels. The instinctive drive to 'Individuate' (Jung) is a life-span development trajectory, of a drive towards optomised realization of the genomic potential of an individual. Reified representations of drives, processes and systems (e.g. 'Thantaos. the 'Anima' etc.,) function as representative-imagos, of the regulation of the field as a whole, which collapse into these symbolic representations, within Ego-consciousness. There's no need to focus on 'Thantaos' and so no need to be concerned about its 'opposite' in a compensatory relationship to it. Complexes, always take advantage of polarised constructs - like the 'opposites' Jungians are so fond of. Homesostasis, as a whole-of-field phenomenon, is not, polarised. Its 'dynamic'. Kindest Regards, Steve

I was just thinking the other day how the iconic intro music has disappeared from your videos, and here it is again 😍 I’m wondering if I find it so powerful because I’ve associated it with your teachings, or it’s just packed with its own meaning that I pick up unconsciously. Probably a mixture of both. Anyway, great discussion, thank you so much for sharing 💛
@JungToLiveBy

Hi again @lauralis, I would agree, that its both. The music is 'The Hibernians' which was part of a soundtrack for a movie project that was written as a deeply 'archetypal' journey. Music is a field pgenomenon in its own right, and matches the wave-form of our being in so very many ways. Kindest Regards, Steve & Pauline

Listening to this, I wonder if one is usually attuned to one's dreams, fantasies, and even to a high degree to the thoughts of others (if one has a sense that the mind can be shared, in a way, and one seems to hear another's thoughts and be particularly sensitive to others) -- and one is deeply emotional, preferring to feel the message deeply to 'wash it away' rather than to slowly linger upon it -- yet, despite these "hallucinations" and deep affects, one is able to integrate the meaning of the various impressions in regular intervals, and one has stable relationships, a career, etc. -- is one still considered psychotic? Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere. Thank you so much for sharing these invaluable conversations. Michelle

I should add that I am specifically thinking of the work of Nathan Schwartz - Salant, who relates experiences of consciousness, including and affects and discrete thoughts, being shared by two or more individuals (without necessarily being voiced), etc.

Hi @chakajordan (Michelle) thank you so much for your insightful and deeply thoughtful comment. A balanced relationship to the 'field' of information. that we both exist within, and which makes us up, is never psychotic. Affect (emotion) is the 'carrier-wave of Instinct' and therefore, of the genome, and the wider fields that regulate it. Kindest Regardss, Steve & Pauline

Thank you for this marvellous and unique platform. I'd just like to return to a phenomenon mentioned previously, the ideomotor function. Over 40 years ago I and some schoolfriends, aged 13, engaged in the ouija board. We had immediate contact with what we believed was the spirit of a fellow pupil who had drowned that summer. During the questions and answers I asked who would be in the FA Cup Final, a major event back then. The answer was Spurs and QPR. Sure enough 6 months later those were the teams. In over 140 years of FA Cup football that was the only time QPR progressed to the final. I've no idea how this precognition came about? Would it be in the subconscious of us schoolchildren? I would value your opinion 🙏

Hi again, @addict99100. thanks so much for your continued support for our channel and our work. It was certainly a 'field resonant phenomenon' by which I mean, the various 'associated' elements, were in a field of relationship to one another. This could be classified as 'synchronicity'. It has the characteristics of the moment in time that was shared - and also too, in the conjoined moments in time, before and after the present moment, you all had experienced. This qualifies as an associated informational-field, with resonant qualities. Past, present and future, superposition themselves. Kindest Regards, Steve

Pure gold. Thank you. However, I am curious what you think ‘self concept’ is. There are a great many models of this and the reasons and processes of its development. How does ego relate to self concept? Is ‘self concept, a representation of ‘the ego’ . Thank you again.
@JungToLiveBy
@JungToLiveBy 8 ай бұрын
Hi again, @ernestberry5226, the Self-Concept in Psycho-Systems Analysis, is the 'extended field' of the Ego, that contains within it, everything we have ever experienced that has been 'identified-with' as being 'us', along our life's journey. Naturally, this includes tacit and implicit incorporates, that have become systematized into 'complexes' along the trajectory, of the time-line of our life. Given the limitations of the Ego's immediate experience (the Miller-number) the Self-Concept remains largely unconscious, to the Ego, as such, but is 'dynamic' and may impress its associations and complexes, into Ego-consciousness, or otherwise, distribute them as 'representations' into our biology, and socio-environmental relationships. Within psychology, they (the representations) achieve some escape from the regulatory scrutiny of the homeostatic (self-regulatory) function. This occurs via competing algorithms' that measure adaptive advantage and disadvantage, dynamically, in real-time, and when set against genomic anticipations for future life-span development. So, the Ego, is only the most currently associated elements of the Self-Concept, which itself is a whole-field of regulated associations, that when we 'Ego-consciously' look inside, we tacitly identify with, even if, the tacit identifications are with complexes. Kindest regards, Steve 🙏
