Just bought & fitted my first Kirkbe kit. Your advice on fitting washers to the cassette side of the wheel saved me from smashing the kit into a million pieces, in utter frustration! Thanks chap, top, top geeza!!! I agree about the PAS sensors too, can be a real pain to fit and using throttle only gives a much smoother ride.

I like these videos. The everyday use approach (obviously you don't need everything in the kit, if you don't want to).. and the subtle humor and throughness. One thing I would've liked to see was the casette/freewheel installation, and probably some mention of the hub spacing on MTB's (depending on the type of dropout), what you can do and what you can't do. There's plenty of videos on the tube about changing freewheel/casette for sure, but not many doing it on a 2kW hub motor. I've got an MTB with QR dropouts and those only have 135mm spacing at the hub. It won't fit a motor like this and a 7 speed freewheel/casette I think.

Absolutely love the Kirby kits. I have a 500w rear hub diy kit and the install was pretty straight forward, had to test fit the wheel two or three times. I also ditched the bag and designed and 3d printed a bracket and integrated cable management box. I made a custom torque bracket from 4mm stainless steel. The 500w kit is all I ever need. Good power and pretty good range with the included battery 48v 13a. Nice instructions not many go into detail about the washers.👍

13:00 yes when the wires touch you are actually completing a circuit on the coils this is reason why you have resistance which is only present in permanent magnet motors. If if was a induction motor you wont experience any resistance until you apply power to the coils.

Thank you for making this video. I have been thinking about building my own electric bike and most videos are more like paid promotions and don't have a lot of actual advice in them. I would make one suggestion on buying the caliper space to the motor. They sell brake disc shims to go behind the rotor in 1mm increments. Use a rotor shim, and then you can adjust the caliper on the mount as they usually have some side to side adjustability to keep the pads evenly spaced on each side.

But if you are in top condition and still want to ride the bike as a normal bike you can of course But hey why not have a little assist by riding up hill and or wind in your face. The gears will definitely be helpful. Thanks for sharing from Mexico.

The one thing I wish that these conversion kit manufacturers would do is make some kind of housing that can contain the controller and then the housing could bolt to the seat tube to secure it. That would make installing the kit much easier for the one installing the kit.

Glad to see you were using flush cut cutters to trim the tails off the cable ties. The number of times I cringe when someone cuts off the cable tie tails leaving a 3 x 4mm razor sharp edge. I used to use thousands of cable ties at work and if we left any sharp edges we were in trouble from whoever cut themselves on them. By using those flush cut cutters with the flush side toward the head of the tie the tail gets cut flush with the surface leaving no sharp bit sticking out.

Nice walk through on the install. The only thing I would have done differently is using an old inner tube as protection of the frame where the jubilee clip is at. I also used old tubes to protect the frame from the chain and if you take your time wrapping the frame it actually can look good.

I went for the front wheel option. More weight on the front in crap weather and no friction involved. Bit like a front wheel drive car, it will pull the steering out of trouble.
@DudeStuff Жыл бұрын
High power front hubs are sketchy they can slide out from underneath on turns in wet weather, unlike a car that won't fall over. The dropouts on most forks aren't great for over 1000w imo. Feels really weird dropping off a kerb on front wheel power as it loses momentum instantly as the front leaves the ground.

With that much power of speed on back wheel, do you think as time goes on the back frame will start breaking apart? Any speed over 20mph will be a rough ride if on roads regularly. It's extremely uncomfortable of the frame used for a powerful motor. I learn from experience to always use a 2 piece frame with dual shocks of front and back as in a hardtail frame. Other frames the speed over 20 mph and up will be a bit shaky at times when going over rough terrain, potholes, dips, bumps, ect.
@user619tlsdca52 жыл бұрын
Other factor is the condition of the back wheel will get roughed around of having no rear or hardtail shocks.
