way too much cutting if you ask me. i'd try to make a custom subframe, so the engine can move over to the driver side more. it seems that you have to cut out the complete sidemember... and there is no way you can get back the transverse rigidity without building a new full size sidemember in the passenger side wheel well, which is very hard to integrate into the cars structure. crash wise this car will not work as it should aver again. (rectangular tubing doesn't make for a good crumple zone) but it's a very cool project none the less

Maybe fab new engine and tranny mounts? MSengineering David Sounding stupid for the sake of sounding stupid is asinine. Suggesting someone tube the front half vs Pratt and Whitney retrofit is apples to oranges. He may not want to tube it, that’s fine, but there are literally thousands of cars, albeit mostly track cars, that have tube frames and/or front or back halves. Your idea of sounding stupid is ridiculous, tubing a car, not so much.

That’s not a subframe you’re talking about notching, it’s the frame rail. Sounds to me like the bigger turbo stock motor would’ve been a way better option at this point.

With the exhaust if i May offer. Cap off the rear exit. Then make a new exit from the cross over pipe and drop it out the front. Or poke it out the hood! Keep it simple. With the right frame rail just run some thick plate and box the rail in, it’ll be peachy. Keel going this is awesome I’ve never seen it before!

maybe it would be better to just tube the front since your taking a lot of material out of there anyways. It would be a lot more rigid and give you more space for certain activities 😁

Trevor, one of the few guys to walk out in the backyard and grab a spare-/parts-saab to play around with LOL As much as I love the V8 Idea, would prefer to see the Honda being painted and sold. Convert the Dad-Wagon to V6T AWD Manual and give it to Jamie, she loves the wagon you said. Sell Jamie's sedan and continue to play around with the parts car or keep looking for an AWD Manual from the auction where it doesn't hurt as bad when you cut it up...

Dang, I was really hoping this would be more of a bolt in affair for you. I knew it would need modification, but woulda been nice if it wasn't half the front frame. I'm thinking just use the chassis you are already modding and don't kill the daily. Safety does matter and your red car is nice as is. Just keep it a fun project. Also what brand of recip saw blade was that? Is it in your Amazon store? Seems like it did work, hah. Or tell me what you fav is anyways. Just got a new saw.

We're all looking forward to this build however we are very critical about safety we want Trevor to stay safe also Jamie and the baby him cutting up the frame rails is just red flags everywhere at that point he would of been better off just fixing the little issue the stock engine in the dad wagon had and putting a bigger snail on there is looking to be a better option at this point if he's cutting up the frame rails and sacrificing safety

I’d put the engine and trans where it needs to be regardless of mounts, take measurements and tube the front to fit. All that hacking to the oem chassis seems to be weakening beyond what’s gonna be safe.

i think this is a bad idea it just to much to do to make it fit it is not wise cutting frames and that is bad. i think you should find a different gearbox that will work with that engine and is a wee bit smaller

I was thinking the same. On a front impact, the front would shift sideways and make weird stuff since there's more metal on one side.

@@Basomga Every piece of metal you cut out, you can replace. It wouldn't be hard to brace that side with a half tubed brace from the strut tower to the front and from the tower back to the firewall. Honestly, they should just cut that corner off the car and make a tube front for everything. Would be a lot of fab work, but something Trevor should be able to do.

to save loosing brake fluid, wedge the brake pedal down, it blocks the inlet port in the master cylinder, and keeps the whole brake system full of fluid inc the abs and master. so when you re-connect the brakes you bleeed the callipers and your good to go. ALSO it wont leak out any lines when opened. this is particularly handy when replacing rusty lines :)

Weld the passenger side engine mount/carrier inside the side member and weld a tubular support from the strut tower to the front of car to compensate for the thinner side member. Also before wasting your time cutting parts, check if you still have room to mount cooling radiator and fans...

Honestly another thing you can try is to tube frame the front end since you're cutting up the rest of the front for more room for the engine. plus it will make it stronger.

Well you could always throw it in the trunk of a wagon. Transfer the drive line to the back as well to make a rear engine, rear wheel drive, Saab V8 wagon.

try to massage the rest of that frame rail to be flat and send a piece of square stock along the wheel well side. then you can either bend it back into the sock impact bar location or fab on up with some tubes

Looking at it that's probably a bad plan. Really, cutting framerails to get a 5.3l in there... not worth it. Especially for a daily. I'd refresh the V6 powerline. Make some manifolds with a proper flange for a turbo and get a bigger single in there.

I'm in the UK though that's the only thing, I've been looking for an engine to work on for practice for when I do a full rebuild on my PD100 Skoda Fabia (basically a Volkswagen Polo) with 146,000. Me and my mate bought it as a project car. It has a lil remap on it and burns a little bit of oil. If you want to inbox me on here with details and stuff like that it would be really appreciated. If you ask me , I would get a look on a stock chevy where the set up is in and measure it also I think the gearbox ain't the same so the drive shafts and Enginecradle they might be close and the mounts are get a better look for it. You won't hack your car have an accident get killed or insured bad because the body lost it's crumple zone. But keep on you find a solution

Cut the mount off the frame rail and do a L bracket to bolt the sub frame to the frame Cap frame rails and throw tubes from front of frame rail to the firewall kinda like a tub front end

run 1/8 or 1/4 plate the size of height and length of what you cut out and weld it up .keeps it slim and really strong and good to weld off of it

C channel on the outside of the frame then if I remember right you already have coilovers so they'll be, or should be smaller diameter springs and clear the added C channel? for subframe mounts, specifically the one you cut in half, could you just move it outward and then cut and move the subframes mount out to match? OH OH or on your frame, brace up the body parts, cut out the engine section and box the rear of the frame and the front section of the frame and use inch and 5/8th dom tube to go between and do mounts off that. either way its gunna be awesome.

Trevor this is a cool project but I still can’t help but think your going to end up ruining your daily. Do it on a junk car for fun and race it but you have cut out a lot of strengthening any kind of accident I wouldn’t be comfortable having my family in there. Why didn't you use the ls4 cradle? I believe there is a caviler here on KZbin that did a ls4 swap and used the cradle as well.

seems like with all the cutting, you'd do better just making a tube front for it, clear the frame rails all the way back to the firewall, leave the strut towers and go full race car on the front end for the actual structure of it all.

Should try moving the whole setup to the driver's side a bit. Would possibly fix your subframe issue.
