I tried to put together a look at how I assembled my homemade Pub Battles style scenario for Wagram, but never quite finished. After some recent interest, I thought I should finish it (more or less). Here's a link to a download of the files I used to "make" the game: drive.google.c...

A lot of time in researching, creating and producing, what is a unique bespoke game. A fantastic achievement.

I started the same kind of project a few weeks ago and you are going to save me a LOT of time, sir! Thank you very much for the sharing your (huge) work.

I saw the link you posted with the files for creating our own copy and I am halfway through making it all now. I have everything cut I just need to sand and paint the pieces. You have inspired me and I’m considering trying to do Leipzig 1813 with Pub Battles.

Good luck! And I'd really like to see Leipzig if you ever pull that off

@@jeffcapuano3380 I think the hardest part will be the maps. It is such a big area. Even at the scale of Pub Battles I think it will have to be a multi-game campaign style game.

I’ve got all the blocks made up...many thanks to you Jeff. Next is the map...I’m going to splurge on canvas since it’s my birthday coming up.

Thanks Jeff -- great how-to video and great results. I've often had the urge to take on a similar project, and that will never happen again after this... :)

First, thanks again for sending (posting) me the Zip file for the game a few weeks ago. I was apparently right in my statement that a number of people would be interested in doing their own copy based upon the number of people now doing their own besides me and the number of 'followers' you have below. Congrats again. Anyway, I've started putting together my own copy and here's a couple of options/techniques that might help people putting theirs together:- This might sound odd but pick up a nice set of curved nose hair trimmers to help get a nicer "curved cut" on the Command labels. It still takes time but these will be very helpful to those who are not that good with scissors.- When printing the labels, set your print quality to "BEST" or whatever is the highest level your printer can be set at. It makes the labels look a lot better in most cases.- When spraying the Dullcote over the labels, make sure you do very light coats and let it dry before applying the next coat. Applying too much matte clear coat finish to the labels will cause the ink to run and ruin the labels.- I am fortunate in that a friend of mine owns a game business and he has a laser cutter for his MDF. Though I have a small hobby saw, for this game and as I did for another game similar to this, I bought the unit/HQ/CMD dowels myself and for a really small fee he's cutting them for me. I just wanted to make sure that all the pieces are uniform in size. You may have a local company that does similar laser cutting who might be willing to do the same for you. It might be worth exploring.- After applying the labels you may want to consider applying another clear varnish over the pieces in order to help seal the label onto the block but also to help protect the paint. You may want to test your finish on the gold foil paper to see if it changes the effect. You can always use Satin or Gloss finish for this stage.- Sanding the dowels before they are cut may help reduce the overall time spent sanding as the time spent picking up each individual piece and inspecting and sanding it later will be reduced.- Using a flatter box like a pizza box when painting will allow to get the sides of the pieces better which will reduce your time having to flip the pieces around to paint all the sides.I hope these tips help.

That was excellent, Jeff. Oddly enough, I was just looking at those saws on Amazon last night because I've been thinking about a DIY game project. Some years ago, I also tried cutting wooden blocks by hand and had exactly the same problems you did (even having an Xacto miter box didn't help much.) Considering all of the projects I have going at the moment, I may be better off just taking a nap and hope the urge to craft a game passes.

Very inspiring; and cost aside now you have the game scenario you want. Thanks for posting (there must be a an "anonymous" group for this sort of thing: "Hi, my name is and I'm a pub battles DIY addict". Group responds "Good morning"...)

How many guns are in each of your artillery pieces?

I tried to stay close to around 38 guns per block, but I rounded liberally when I thought it added to game balance. I stand behind none of my "research"! I was just trying to have some fun...
