The sun’s out in Wales and it’s time for pub lunch at the Swan Inn, Nottage, Porthcawl.
The video I mention about the old railway • Porthcawl’s Lost Railw...
Our Welsh country pub adventure continues in our home town of Porthcawl.
It’s the first time in the pub lunch series we have food outside as we experience a rare period of sunny weather.
Before the pub lunch, I take a look at the old village of Nottage in South Wales. It has now been swallowed up by Porthcawl but the village still has many old buildings.
The village also has a village green and three pubs including The Swan Inn.

Fantastic blast from the past. Used to stay in the Farmers back in the 70s can vouch for the fact it's haunted. You certainly did justice to the village, thanks as always

Love Nottage. My father was Welsh and travelled there from Northern Ireland every year as a kid in the seventies/early eighties. Stayed in Llynfi caravan site on West Road. Sadly houses are now built on the site. Have also been back a few times more recently and stayed in the Rose & Crown. Great times! BTW Beales chippie for me. Many great memories of there and Coney beach back in it's hayday!

I must say, your latest video was nothing short of exquisite. The way you meticulously weave together the history and local knowledge of the area with your restaurant reviews is truly a sight to behold. I appreciate the time, effort and passion that you put into each and every one of your videos, and it certainly shows. As a proud resident of South Wales, I have spent all 38 years of my life in this beautiful part of the world. Yet, despite this, there are still countless charming pubs and eateries that I have yet to experience. However, thanks to your magnificent KZbin channel, I have been inspired to be more adventurous and explore more of the local culinary scene based on your expert recommendations. Your videos not only showcase the delicious food on offer, but also the rich and fascinating history of the area. The fact that you take the time to delve into the stories behind the restaurants and the surrounding area is truly commendable. It adds such depth and character to your reviews and makes them all the more enjoyable to watch. I have no doubt that your channel has become a valuable resource for many people, both locals and visitors alike. Your passion for food and your love for your community shines through in every video, and it is truly inspiring. Thank you, Marcus, for all that you do. I look forward to your future videos and the endless adventures that await us in the wonderful world of South Wales cuisine!

Thank you very much and for taking the time to comment. We started doing local history and places to see in Wales during the lockdown. It made us appreciate what we have in the area and how little positive publicity it gets.

Hello from the States. Another entertaining and fun fact pub lunch video. I’m learning more and more about Wales from your videos. Much appreciated. I think I would try the sausage and mash on a Thursday and get the 10% discount. The food looked delicious and you are going to regret the extra hot curry come tomorrow. The Sir Digby Chicken Caesar runoff at the end was funny. Poor Mel, she’ll have to pay for all three now. Enjoying a delicious pub lunch on a beautiful sunny warm day in Wales, life is good. Stay safe and be well.

The history was so interesting and those salads looked lovely! Thank you, Marcus. I always look forward to your videos and love Mel too. Due to recovering from surgery, I now have to wait yet another year before I can come back home for a holiday!!

for a split second I thought you were talking about the food :) worst mouth burn I ever got was from mushy peas last month :) Recently had a baby, put on a few stone so been climbing Drumau mountain every day, couldn't get too far yesterday, so humid. Packed spare clothes, but both sets got soaked :) Wanted to go look for that giant black cat I saw last year, other people have started talking about the giant black cat up there. Was about 3 months pregnant and was taking one last bike ride up the mountain, but was pregnant so I got tired and took a break on a quiet path 2/3rds of the way up the mountain. started hearing rustling near by, but it stopped and I started hearing loud breathing. Phoned my husband to check in and tell him that I thought a cow had escaped one of the farms because I can hear what sounds like a cow breathing loudly in the woods next to me, but I cant see it anywhere. So I got up while on the phone and start looking for it. I walked about 30 yards up the hill and I hear a loud thud. I look behind me and there is this huge black animal running down the hill away from me and leaves and petals are now falling from the tree onto my backpack that I had left where I was sitting. It was shockingly big, like seeing a lion at the zoo, black, slight orange markings on its back and a very long tail. All I said on the phone was dogs aren't that big and dogs don't run like that. The thing must have been sniffing me from the tree branch above me. I have always believed in big black cats in the countryside, but I thought they were quite small, maybe medium dog sized. I was never expecting to see one on Drumau near Skewen, quite a big and populated village. Suppose all the chewed sheep bones I found up there in the months before should have given me a clue.

Er... The pub I lived in. Thank you, Marcus. Still three pubs in Nottage? They're going extinct around here. We didn't cater, but my mum did pasties and sandwiches. I was a regular in later years and the pub quiz was always a laugh. The kind where you shout answers, put 20p in a glass if you're wrong and get a ticket for the raffle if you're right. Eng..sh pub quizzes are so boring.

@@flydriveexplore Hmmm.. Meat raffle must have started after I was silly enough to move. We moved to the Swan from the Star in Bridgend, but didn't stay that long. Dad was fed up with the brewery management and decided to do what he originally trained for and turned the old village greengrocers into a butcher's shop. See, there's only one shop there now.
