I was a GIANT SD hater back in the day until god twisted the knife and sent Beav in to line up the winning penalty, we all just knew he would f it all up. He didn't, he slotted in the greatest kick in history to etch his name amongst the greats forever. Wonderful, wonderful interview and I listened attentively to every second. That 2011 game was one of the most nervous few hours of my life. Me and my mate's beer rate was nuts, probably sinking one each every 3-4 minutes. When the beaver came on we both looked at each other, said "we're fucked!" and the beers were disappearing every 2 minutes. From pariah to legend. Good on ya mate.

Myself and a mate were sitting in a pub to watch the game here in NZ, and before the game could hear everyone bagging beav saying if Cruden goes down we are done. My mate jumped up on the table and bellowed out "everyone can get fucked! Beaver is gonna come on and win the game". He then copped a copious amount of abuse. Que Beaver slotting the kick and the ABs winning. Free piss and bragging rights all night haha. Up the 🦫!

Top chat. The rubbish in the NZ media about Beaver after HK was bad. I'd agree that i also had zero faith in the bloke, but he didn't deserve that crap day after day. I wish kiwi sports fans had learnt a lesson from that, but nope, still enjoy sticking the knife. Re the match, no1 mentions that Piri Weepu also got injured that day, so much of the game was played with Andy Ellis (who was excellent as well). Probably the least experienced halves combo to win a rwc final

Really enjoyed this. I agree with his point about teamwork though, especially when it comes to Wilkinson & England; I actually think Dawson had arguably the more pressure in the dying moments of that final. It is a team game & special sides will create many special players. Sorry, this has been a pet peeve of mine for some time 😊

just wanted to say Beaver should've been in the 2011 rwc squad from the beginning!! one kick in Hong Kong didn't warrant being dropped for Slade or Cruden imo. definitely in form 2010-11 seasons, and challenged DC in super rugby etc. and this is coming from a one-eyed cantab😉👍

I went and watched the 2011 wc final highlights and when Beaver is running back from his kick hes trying to pull down his t-shirt down hard because it doesnt fit, it was almost a tank top lmfao
