Jeremy, first of all, I absolutely love this channel and all of the content you & Daniel put out. I have been doing an 8 to 10 day rutcation trip every year to the Midwest for quite a few years, and it is by far my most anticipated thing every year, & have been doing the public land grind exclusively even here at home, so there is so much I can relate to watching y’all. I have been following you for a few years now, and this has 100% became my favorite KZbin channel. I am currently into my 35th year of bow hunting, with the last 7 years being with a crossbow, & I can say it is just another tool that has advantages and definitely has disadvantages! Lord knows I have had my share of mishaps like you did here in this video lol. But keep up the great work man, because I know I’m speaking for lots of people when I say we look forward to each video!

sold both my compound bows about 15 years ago. Loved archery since boy scouts when I was a kid. Love target practice. always have. Just bought my first crossbow 3 weeks ago. Shot it 10 times so far. loving it. Glad it is an option. I have short legs and short arms too. Just relalized Ive been bow hunting for years with a huge disadvantage. my crossbow with a CCD takes all that away. I bought a crossbow where the crank isnt part of the stock and isnt easily removable for the exact reason you show in this video "I am going to take that crank off and lose it" I think I made a good call for myself.

Last November (‘22), the day before Thanksgiving I bought a B3 Hook release ($85’ish). Used it that same evening. Early the next morning I went to get my bow out of the truck and the release was not on it. I initially looked all through the truck, checked my pack, pants pockets. It was gone! I dropped it somewhere in the walk from the location I hunted and back the truck. The hunt spot was about 35 minutes from home. I drove back out and looked in the parking area, walked the 3/4 mile in to where I had hunted and looked all around. The dang thing was gone. Man I was pissed 😡

Enjoy your shows! Tried crossbow for kids when they were young and couldn't pull enough poundage on regular bow. Just felt they were loud and not all that, but they have improved alot. Yes do use hocks from bucks but only on another property than where they were killed. Makes bucks think another moved into their territory.....

@Bradb-bp4si don't get off track here. You must still draw a compound in front of game. Are modern bows better and more of an advantage than a stick bow, ABSOLUTELY they are. If cross bow hunter's would be required to draw their "bow" in the presence of an animal as every other traditional or modern compound bow is required to do then I'd say let them have at it, but you can't. Crossbows are cocked, sitting and waiting ready to fire.

I've busted up both of my arms and needed surgery on both the last few years. I've hunted with a crossbow because of it. I had an old excalibur that was big and cumbersome to hunt with. It was crazy to hunt from a stand with. This year I needed surgery a month before season so I had to buy a tenpoint with a crank. It's much heavier than a bow. So heavy I laid it across the front of my climber instead of hanging it. It shoots nice. I didn't buy the most expensive model, rather, one of the least expensive ones. I have truly enjoyed using a crossbow and am glad they allowed me to stay out and hunt. I killed a buck and a doe this year with mine. Next year I am reducing my compound weight to its minimum and going to try to get back out there and hunt with it.

I already walked about three miles in the woods got all set up with a clamber. Went to put a bolt in the bow. You guessed it left my arrows in the back of the truck. Pretty dumb. Got back to the truck i parked on a smalk place off the road and to make matters worse ny truck slid down the bank and up against a tree. After about 2 hours and 4 cars passed me a fine young man stopped and pulled me out of the bank. About half the back of the truck all scratched up. Hunting is so much fun. Went home and drank a few cold ones and was not a happy camper. Needless to say went out the next day rememberd to take ny arrows and park the truck in a safe place. Sat that day till dark seen one Squirrel. Happy Hunting. Am 76 now and still hunting but will never forget that day. Still hunting yet but hope i dont forget where i parked my truck.

First year hunting with a crossbow. Getting older so I figured I would give it a try. Used a compound for many years. I use it with my summit climber. I hunt in a small area with 8 or 9 homes around so using a fire arm is out of the question. A crossbow allows me pin point accuracy with little movement such as required drawing a compound or recurve. It’s important I deliver a vital hit so the deer doesn’t Tavel far. Like someone’s back yard. Yesterday I used it on a deer using the same broad head you use. Traveled 60 yards heart shot. These heads fly like practice tips. In both my compound and crossbow.

I just started hunting with a crossbow last year. I love it. It came with a 2 handle cord cocking device, but I bought a crank cocker for easier cocking. I keep them BOTH in my backpack. I had left the crank cocker in my box blind, but I still had my cord hand puller and was able to cock my crossbow. When I shot a compound, I also carried a spare release. I'm 63 and can still shoot a compound, but I really like my crossbow.

I think that it's a free country and we can all make our own decisions on what to use. I use a crossbow and I love it! Now I am at a disadvantage with a compound bow since I have had both shoulders operated on but I got into hunting later in life and I was immediately drawn to using a crossbow. What I mean by later in life is around 30. Had I started younger then I would have probably gotten into using a compound bow. Hunt often and have a great day!

Hey Jeremy another 10 Point crossbow shooter here. And I wondered while watching that last episode how long it was going to take before you lost your crank handle. I've lost mine twice while walking in or out and. got lucky and found it both times by retracing my steps. I carry mine in a zipped pocket now. One advantage I like about the crossbow is the ease of getting off a shot without being detected if I'm hunting on the ground. Hope you found your crank.

When I had a Ten Point Accuslide bow I either used a small bungee ball to keep the crank handle secure or a piece of stretch cord mounted on the bow that I could slip over the crank handle knob to keep it in place. I also kept a spare handle in my pack. Those handles are too expensive to lose!

I have both, compound and a crossbow. I prefer my compound, but a crossbow levels the playing field when it comes to draw length, arrow weight, poundage etc. You hit a deer with a crossbow, and you will easily get a pass through. Someone using a compound with a 27" draw, 50lbs may not. Yes, shot placement has a lot to do with it but let's be real, you don't always hit the boiler room. Just my take. Enjoy watching your videos.

Keep your a spare rope cocker in your bag. I know we hand draw my cousins center point sniper 370 and uncles 385 don’t quote me on them numbers lol . I have the Tether XL that seems to be the perfect size as far as the saddle you can hunt all the way around the tree you never have a bad spot you just have to watch the limbs don’t hit or strike limbs. 👍 I was in the movie Jeremiah Johnson when Chris said to Jeremiah I seen it right off. Does there have to be a reason or disability to use what you want for hunting? Tra bow guys say the same about guys using a compound bow with a trigger release and zoom lenses on their sights ! Let's all start sticking together and backing each other up. There are enough people against hunters in general! We don't need to start picking apart each other for what you choose to put food on your table for your family ! Rant over! Happy hunting

Part of the grind fo sho. You ask if we ever have mishaps, I may be the master 😂. Me and my son got up early one October morning heading with my jet boat to hit the public land on our local river. We got there and was loading the boat when my son said “crap, I forgot my bow”. So back we went to the house to get it lol. I have lots of these stories but to be honest they are wonderful memories.

What do you with the deer meat, cape ect when you kill in one state going to next. Where do you store it all especially when travelling and hunting multiple states consecutively?

I'm in the same camp as Dan Infalt. Whether you shoot a crossbow, compound, or trad bow, except other people choices for what they shoot. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Go with your gut feeling , everyone I don’t I end up regretting it. I just sit and weigh all the options back and forth until something just clicks. Sitting till 2pm and no deer I would probably just stay till dark

I started using a crossbow about 4 years ago due to having a total shoulder replacement! I am gradually starting to shoot my bow more but having problems with the other shoulder, 68 years old!! Crossbow is heavier and more cumbersome but deadly! I hope I achieve my goal of getting back to archery hunting with my bow.

I've not attempted a crossbow hunt from a saddle. Seems like it would more of a hassle. I could be wrong but i thought every crossbow had a spot for a rope pull cocker. I carry mine in my pack, it doesn't take up much room. Love the videos yall put on. God bless and good luck the rest of the season.

I’ve bowhunted for 35 years and 30 of that was with a compound and would still be using one if it wasn’t for heath issues. The pluses of a crossbow bow is I’m more accurate with one with a rest but it’s aggravating humping a combersom crossbow and a shooting stick around and forget a second shot which is easy with a compound.

I grew up shootin a compound only but now use both. Just depends on what I feel like taking that day. I have some stands that are set up better for compound and some better for xbow. My experience is that it's not as easy using a xbow as everyone thinks. But I still think xbow should not be in regular bow season. Once they legalized xbow for everyone to use in my state, my public land spots that I used to have all to myself are filled up with xbow hunters. Everybody that used to only be gun hunters have now picked up a xbow which doubles the hunting pressure during bow season now. And there are people that treat a xbow like a gun and take unethical shots. I know that happens with compound hunter too but it's even worse with alot of xbow guys

Funny we traveled out of state to Wisconsin this rifle season first time different experience saw one deer the entire time 3 public spots 10 miles walked and 3 miles kayaking. What we learned go early Nov with our bows rifle season on public in central Wisconsin west of Menominee WI sucked but learned a lot saw hundreds of dead deer driving back to ND so deer do live in WI

They are definitely more aggravating to carry and maneuver through the woods than a bow.

Well I used to love my compound bow. Used to down a crossbow as cheating. Then I messed up my shoulder and found out don’t knock a crossbow until you’ve tried it. Not at all like carrying your rifle. I glad they legalized them in my state or I would have to miss now season. Thanks for the great videos..

I’m not a big fan of crossbows, but I’m glad to see people getting out. I just think they are overutilized and some people treat them like a rifle and take sketchy quartering to shots and kill that animal no problem. I’m not a hater, just have a hard time warming up to those things. Seems like more coddling and pampering so some people can shoot a deer. Don’t have to work for anything these days, and that’s what gets me. There was nothing to me when I was a kid and I remember working my butt of so I could pull 35 pounds at 14 years old. I earned my hunting privilege, where as now it’s just handed out. More instant gratification for kids, no need to work for it. Glad I was raised the way I was 😊. I’ll be honest, I don’t typically give crossbow hunts a view, but I really like your content, so I had to check it out. I honestly thought something must’ve happened to you, because you are such a natural with the vertical bow. Glad you are just fine and giviner. 😊💪🏼👊🏼 Keep up the great work guys 👍🏼

I like the Excalibur crossbow personally with the cocking aid. No crank. Where I hunt in canada it can be down as cold as -15 to -20 Celsius in the last month of the season. I’ve always struggled with the compound in those temps because of the bulkiness of my cloths. Most of my life I hunt with the compound from early season until the mercury dips then I switch to crossbow. That said I have raging tennis elbow and I can’t get much more then 4-5 shots of practice in at a time with the compound so I’ve been using the crossbow most of the season. I owe it to the animal.

Great video! I honestly whether just hunt with the compound. I would like to have one for hunting on the ground with my Ghost Blind in places that don’t have climbing trees, but that’s about the only advantage I give it. I like knowing the dates of the hunt . What was the date on this hunt?

Being from Georgia, I love shooting a crossbow, my shoulder doesn't allow me to hunt with a compound bow anymore so if not for the crossbow I would have to skip archery season, plus it allows my 8 year old grandson to hunt archery season since there's no way he can pull back a compound bow with the required 45lbs, also my wife is now hunting with me since she doesn't like shooting a gun and can't really pull back a compound bow, but the crossbow is perfect for her.......I also hate using a cocker, that's why I shoot a Wicked Ridge Vital X 405, you just cock it manually, manually pretty much works all the time. No need to have that cocker.
