I love your work Dr Mpofu. ❤️ I don't think the PP will survive because it seems like her fate has already been decided by both Parliament and the Courts. The Speaker had nothing to lose by halting the process whilst the constitutionality of the rules was being determined. Also for the Court to say it's in the public interest that the PP be held to account offends against rules of natural justice. This process is irrational in that it is done with so much haste. It will surely have far-reaching consequences for future PPs and our constitutional democracy.

Would you be able to do a video about the different heads of government and why they all equally matter especially with elected politicians attacking the judiciary because it confuses the layman public. E.g. the judiciary, the CJ and why they matter, Executive and the president and why they matter and etc. With practical examples in the way you do. This is fantastic content. Thanks Dr MW. Your analysis style is really interesting. In SA it seems like a trend for political commentators to eventually start showing their political party underwear. How do you see yourself navigating that complexity? For example you mentioned the repercussions of political party's support or otherwise for the PP on the elections. I would be very interested to know what your thoughts are on the "charge sheet" itself and maybe take that political impact conversation further based on what the charges imply. I mean, do you think she lied? This is a proper elephant in the room for me. Because if we go there then we have to start analysing to what extent these legal processes actually affect the voting base. And what public sentiment is currently built on. Title of the video should be "How bureaucracy ruins democracy" I'm disappointed at how much process lies between today and the possible, potential, yet-to-be-decided removal of the Public Prosecutor. Both she and the ANC deserve the boot for the exact same reason: extreme ineptitude.

The process is way more complicated than many people realise. Although, some would argue that a simpler process would create long-term instability in Ch 9 institutions. Security of tenure is supposed to make the PP more independent. Thanks for the great comment.

I think the positive side for me is the future removal process of the incumbent. At least going forward, it will be less cumbersome. However, as much as I appreciate the process of finding constitutionality in the subject matter, I feel it will lack neutrality and more biases. A couple of people (ANC MPs), including the sitting President are in the PPs reports or investigations. Somehow the PP is viewed as thorn in cabinet. I hope in the preliminary stages, the appointed personnel in the " investigation of PP's fitness to hold office" will set a good tone, backed by law, performance of PP, and her conduct not only on high profile case. Lastly, I am concerned about lobbying groups and media (ie mainstream), I hope for neutrality.

Great comment. Couldn’t agree more. Political parties have to act independently but they also have clear interests at stake. Similarly adverse finding against PP can’t be ignored. As for mainstream media narrative: we all know that will never be fair or balanced. 😌

As much as I do think the adverse findings against the Public Protector warrant her removal, its perhaps encouraging to see how multifaceted and robust the process is. At the end of the day, the office of the public protector is a Chapter 9 institution regardless of who occupies it and chapter 9 institutions are intended to guard democracy and act free of fear from other branches of government which they may investigate (eg. PP or AG). Hopefully all aspects of the investigation are held to the highest standard and do not set a dangerous precedent where nefarious political motives could lead to the removal of Heads of C9 institutions thereby undermining them

Interesting take. For me, I think the thing to realise is how hard it is to remove a Ch 9 institution. As I explain in the video, the process requires major consensus. So, it won't be easy.
