Glad I watched this video cuz it helped me to turn off the light in my apartment w/o having to call maintenance to turn off the breaker box. All I had to do was gently push the beaded part towards the mechanism until I heard the "click" of whichever bead that was stuck as it became dislodged. THANK YOU

This just worked for me! Pulling the chain repeatedly would not click... pushed the beads back into the mechanism until I heard it click... and it works now! Thank you!

Gotta say after watching your video you gave me the confidence to try and fix mine. Although the internal unit was slightly different, I still got it working again. Thanks a million!

I have this same problem in the attic over the garage. After watching this it gave me the idea that if I shoot some WD40 into the pull chain entry it may free up. Sure enough it did, and works like new again. I didn't have to unscrew or remove anything, was a fifteen second fix.

You’re a legend. I was having trouble with my fluorescent lights pull chain not clicking and tried this. 15 seconds and boom worked.

Does the ceiling look safe for a bare light there?
@brenttarry715311 ай бұрын
Looks like fibreglass insulation (that doesn’t burn) and that’s a fluorescent bulb so doesn’t get super hot… don’t think there’s really any problem with it 🤷🏼♂️

Would a tat of lubrication help the chain pull better at the connection?

Use a voltage detector to confirm that you’ve switched the right circuit breaker and the fixture isn’t still live
@alexblumin95152 жыл бұрын
#1 You should not use a Mercury bulb any more, specially in the basement. If you break it, Mercury gas will stay in the basement, poisoning you. #2 He used an additional item screwed into socket --for clear testing that should have been removed and pull down switch tested before anything else. #3 Change the bulb first and test it--may be bulb was burned. #4 If the bulb was OK(tested on other light) while screwed directly into the socket only then you go to the circuit breaker box. #3 After turning circuit breaker Off, it is useful to test wires for Power any way using a touch tester, since you never know if whole basement's wiring sits on one breaker or more than one.

You should not use pull rope, but instead use bead string (made of bronze or nickel beads) since the rope touches the bulb and getting very hot depends on bulb wattage, so it is not fire safe.

I had one like that and WISHED I'd actually replaced it. The problem has returned several times. Next time it will be a new one.

Is it okay if the string touches the bulb? Will it burn out?

My pull chain with string attached to it snapped right off when turning on and now stayed on with no way to turn it off now that the chain came off.. I can't see any stem inside the fixture either when I unscrewed the fixture from the ceiling. I don't see where the chain is or where it broke off from the one end.

You might heed a new fixture...hard to say without seeing it. You may need to call an electrician or handyman

watched your video and several others, my light has three terminals, not sure where to put extra wire, I would think on the silver screw, but didn't want to do till I was sure.

You should probably get someone who is handy with electrical work to help you with this. Or at the very least look up the manufacturer's instruction sheet for your socket on line. DIY books available at Home Depot, Amazon, or your local library are also good references for this type of thing.

Ours is brand new, stopped turning off when pulled after 2 weeks. Pulled it about 5 times in 2 weeks, already malfunctioning. The old one was 50 years old before it stopped working.

Instead of plastic light fixture you better use porcelain since plastic when heated(by bulb), releases some fumes --certain gases --very bad for air quality.
