Pullman Police Department: Minor Intoxicated in Public

"There was just a young lady that was walking on the highway that tried to get on the bus. She is really drunk and she's just right over there."
Today's installment takes us right back to Pullman, Washington, this past weekend. Whereas yesterday we enjoyed Officer Emerson's perspective, this time around we are tagging along with Officer Reuben Harris. Watch as he learns that a drunk woman who had been walking along the highway had just tried to board a broken-down UCLA bus... and is now wandering around in the street.
Officer Harris quickly contacts the young woman, finding her cooperative, friendly, and yes: apparently quite drunk. After a few attempts at figuring out where she is trying to go and what's going on, the young woman is placed under arrest, technically for minor intoxication in public but also to protect her from herself. Because she certainly can't handle that task right now.
Another Saturday night in a college town.

One time I ended up too drunk, too far from campus, and none of my friends were answering the phone. Ended up calling the non-emergency police line from the side of the road to ask for help. The only time I've ever been in the back of a cop car was when they drove me home that night! I can still (kind of) remember sobbing into the phone, asking the dispatcher if they would arrest me because I was underage. They were happy to give me a ride back to the dorm, so glad my night ended better than this girl's!

Wow, can’t believe they arrested her for this. In Canada back when I was 16 and drunk in the field (18 is legal age here) we would always run from the cops when they showed up. If they caught us, they brought us home. This seems like over kill, especially because she was so cooperative.

Exactly instead of cops going out to bust real criminals like fucken human traffickers rapists robbers etc or even dangerous drug addicts /dealers, no instead they go for the easiest prey to charge ,I saw a dui video where there was 4 cops for a cooperative female, like that much cops is necessary?seems to me like their bored and not looking for the real criminals out there. Waste of tax payers money .

Unfortunately here in the USA we are all about making money (as in taxing you more and the government taking more money) and growing the government larger.....neither of which happens if we simply take people home. So gone are the gool ol' days! Plus we need everyone to be reliant on the government in some form or fashion to justify growing it larger.

13 years in law enforcement. This is one of your best videos. Washington has harsh MIP laws. In Oregon, if you’re over 18 years of age you will receive a citation and in many cases, I would in fact give you a ride home or make sure you had a safe means of getting home. MIP in Oregon is a violation, not a crime. Personally, I think it is a crime that that’s how this offense is treated in Washington. No mattress in the cell? No small window in the door? And since this "Buster" dude seemingly left her hanging in an unfamiliar place, and then blamed her being alone on her going to use the bathroom and getting lost, it makes me wonder if he may be a domestically violent partner... just saying!?! This is wildly unnecessary. Getting her somewhere safe where she could have contacted her boyfriend and sobered up would have been the valiant thing to do. Instead you handcuff her and interrogate possibly the most polite and harmless girl I have ever seen. The cop looks like more of a criminal than she does.
@pennywisethedancingclown4024

Totally agree. I think the guys that told the cop were just hoping he’d go and drive her to where she needed to be or check on her. I don’t think they were planning on her getting arrested. He could have just driven her back to her campus. She seems like a nice girl and she wasn’t hurting anyone. Harsh.

This arrest honestly wasn't cool. And I'm not White-Knighting. She really didn't do anything morally wrong, dangerous, reckless, or bad. And she was like the nicest and most polite person I have ever seen. The police should be trying to keep people like this on their side. Just drive her home, or if you want to teach some kind of lesson, ride her to the station, let her sober up for 6 or 7 hours in the drunk tank, and call for a family member to pick her up. Pretty sure most of us have been in the spot she was in at some point in our younger years, and thankfully, no goober cop like this gave us a lifelong rap sheet, and/or arrest record for it. Like, how can you go home after your shift and not feel bad about doing this? Girl just needed a little help, if anything. Only country on Earth where you can literally be arrested for just existing.
@CoolAce1
@CoolAce1 2 жыл бұрын
The cop was totally professional. You're pretty sure most of us have been in that spot? Probably not. I haven't seen too many drunks wandering around the streets. Blame the laws, not the cop. Raise the legal alcohol age to 25. Better yet, make it illegal like most drugs are.
