Driving the input in parallel is magic

Fun fact (and very useful)! If you hold shift when adjusting the input it will automatically adjust the output accordingly.

bought this one around christmas, just couldn’t resist after a brief time using it. really has something that I hoped the UAD emulation would have (but lacked). Pulsar did an amazing job!

FWIW I myself am using the Pulsar Mu and Massive combo. I use them always on my Studio One 6 Livestream session effects chain. They're not at all surgical, and I don't care. I bought them to compress and EQ broadly and musically. They do that with excellence. I hope you're liking yours, because for me, it drastically changed my mix for the better.

Update, I have bought the Massive and Mu Bundle from Pulsar over their Black Friday sale. It came with the Relab LX480 Essentials reverb. $135 for all 3. And it's a great sounding trio in person.

My fav new compressor along with the Fuse Audio Lab offerings but this one despite being a Mu has a very modern sound, like i think of Mus of having a creamier sound but this is punchy and gritty and i love the GR grafh that's very Fab Filter esque.

Hi Michael ! Big fan of your videos. I remember trying a custom Vari-Mu (different tubes) during a recording session in a studio in Paris, just 1 or 2 db of gain reduction on the vocals got the sound so warm and beautiful, I really fell in love with this amazing piece of gear, did you feel this when you tried it on vocals with the plugin too ? Or it is transparent/colorless ? Best, Lucien
@mixingwithmike4 жыл бұрын
I've never found any analog emulation to feel completely the same as the real gear. I don't think it's about the quality of the emulation but rather that everything else is analog around the hardware and everything ITB is digital. I still love this emulation and it's a valuable art of my work.

I thought the UAD one had a slightly weird release compared to the stock hardware unit. The Pulsar sounds pretty convincing to me.

How does the external side chain work? I’m on a Mac and haven’t read the manual. Maybe through ableton.
@mixingwithmike4 жыл бұрын
Click on the Ext switch in the lower left and assign a track to feed the S/C bus. Not sure how it's set up in Ableton. In pro Tools you select a bus and then assign a send from the trigger track to that same bus.
@Am6-94 жыл бұрын
I demoed it when it was released and what I didn’t like is that I needed an unusually hot signal or really crank the input and threshold to get some heavier gain reduction , say more than 3-4 dB according to the meter. Impossible to get it to 10db like in this video, which was a pity because that sounded ace on parallel drums. Maybe they changed that.
@mixingwithmike4 жыл бұрын
The default setting has the input level all the way down, you can change this as store it as the default
@nichttuntun33644 жыл бұрын
Again a great indepths review/showcase-video from you - THX - as always I can draw something interserting out of your informations. :) For the plugin: I think the sidechain could go up higher then 200 hz and the drive is blurring things up too much. Funny, cause (at least pure without warming transformers and such) tubes should make things brighter and cleaner after all. All in all this seems to be a great plugin, like Pulsars other stuff. I was often one click before buying their stuff - but each and everytime the iLok-conditions kept me away. And of course there is Toni Frenzels Klanghelm MJUC, an amazing plugin compressor for almost no money and NO copy protection. So, sorry Pulsar :)
@Am6-94 жыл бұрын
nichttuntun this one is very different from mjuc, if I remember my demo time with it correctly. I don’t think you can replace one with the other. And ilok isn’t actually too bad imho once you look past all the forum hysteria and drama. I was all set against it, too, until I actually tried it and realized that it’s maybe not the best option, but also not the worst (migration to a new computer is a breeze compared to e.g. entering a serial in dozens of plugins). Klanghelm’s or hornet’s system is much better, though.
@mixingwithmike4 жыл бұрын
I hear what you are saying about driving the input too hard but it settles into a nice place when you back it off a touch. I've never driven the real hardware this way so I can't say that there is a problem here with Pulsar's emulation
