Great intro on getting the PDF files into a usable format for CNC. I'm looking forward to your other videos. I'm hoping to build my first CNC machine over the winter.

Thanks a million for the lucid explanation on how to get this done. It is particularly useful to be able to modify designs made for Depron or MPF so the slot sizes better match dollar tree foam board thickness.

I'm starting back into building card models this will really help as hen I can laser cut the formers for wings, stabilizers and fuselages. But I'm going right from inkscape into AutoCAD

Awesome! Once you can get that PDF into a editable file format, like DXF, it can go into just any program the user prefers. When I made this video, SketchUp was the free "go to" software at the time. Heck, I still use SketchUp when I want to draw something quick in 3D to get a idea out of my head 🙂. If I want 2D, I'm all about AutoCAD. I'm glad this video will help you, that's I put it out there 👍

@@pump4546 I'm simply used to AutoCAD. The only issue is being very carefull to re-scale the image to the proper size. I'm just using a low buck diode laser. I've also been working on HO scale wall modules. The modules are for multi story industrial buildings 1900 through 1950. I can't cut MDF or thicker plywood. So I've been looking at using Canson Mi-Tense illustration board. It cuts and takes engraving nicely. Only the individual bricks in the bond patterns are very fragile. Just touch them with a hobby knife and they pop right off. The solution. Flood them with a 1:1 solution of PVA and distilled water. When thoroughly dry the are much more manageable. The illustration board is a nice blend between cost and rigidity.

Thanks for this, Sketch up 7 tip was a key for me. I'm into model trains and buildings so this is perfect.

Thanks Todd, it was great meeting you at Flitefest Fest 2016 I'm the one that mentioned I have an OX CNC as well! What bit do you use most when cutting the foam board?

Hi Tom, it was nice to meet you at Flite Fest too :) ... Here's what I've had good luck with on the Dollar Tree foam: drillbitsunlimited.com/0394-100mm-Two-Flute-Carbide-Endmill-Flat-End-118-LOC-P5600967.aspx And the best bit for the water resistant foam: www.aliexpress.com/item/10Pcs-set-0-8mm-Carbide-CNC-PCB-End-Mill-Endmill-Engraving-Bits-for-Milling-Machine/32618421023.html?spm=2114.13010608.0.54.GSx1VU

Ok thanks a bunch, I have just tried the water resistant foam and it's awesome! It's much easier to work with!

Hello, I downloaded Inkscape, but it doesn't have .dxf in save as type. What should i do?
@pump45467 жыл бұрын
Odd, I don't know why its not showing up in the save as type: Desktop Cutter Plotter(AutoCAD DXF R14)(*.dxf)... I did a fresh install on my work laptop and I had the option, possibly a bad install?

Would've been better if you hadn't clicked Cancel on Inkscape.
