Disco Kid was originally designed to be Kid Quick. Funny thing about Disco Kid, he absolutely is not new to the series. He’s Kid Quick from the first Punch-Out. His weight, height, record, hometown, and age are the exact same. And his Title Defense afro could be a callback to his original appearance as well. The only major differences are the gimmick and the fighting style. One of Doc Louis’s tips against him also has him saying “This kid is quick”

In all fairness, "von Kaiser" would be more a WW1 reference than WW2. The Kaiser wasn't evil, just not...overly competent. (Granted, the Germans pulled some pretty nasty tricks in that war, too - they're the ones who started the whole city carpet bombing idea, and they were the first to start using poison gas in combat - but that pales in comparison to what Hitler did. Also, that was the German military, not the Kaiser - indeed, they had to lie to the Kaiser about how accurate the Zeppelin-dropped bombs were to get permission to bomb London - he wanted surgical strikes on factories, not random slaughter.)

I actually talked with my friend about Mac's race when the game first came out; we came to a consensus that since the game plays on stereotypes and he's from New York he's probably Italian-American.

Joe is basically one of the few who sort of breaks his stereotype of French people being wimpy cowardly types who’d likely quite after a few losses. Whereas he’s a determined one. He’s still cowardly but he doesn’t have the surrendering stereotype.
