Stacy - they are the cutest little bear, chubby butts ever! Looking to have our new little ball of fur about mid March, so we'll be in the same teething boat. When Odin was a baby, I had good success with this heavy duty cloth type bone that we could wet and put in the freezer and it seemed to help some with the teething too. I'd imagine anything safe that you could freeze for them could help too, even a very well rinsed dish rag, wetted, squeezed out, twisted and frozen. Of course, always supervised. Enjoy those beautiful chunks of LOVE! Thanks for all your wonderful videos!

That was a whole lot of fun watching them. I could just play forever with them. My kind of dog, very very playful and overly cute and gorgeous. The info was very good as well, thank you.

Is he loosing teeth? Does he have something to chew on? If you are concerned you should seek veterinary care.

@SitStaywithStacySlade he seems to be losing teeth. I noticed two molar teeth missing about a week ago. Just concerning that the drooling started all of a sudden. We will contact our vet if it continues more then a couple days. He doesn't seem sick at all. He chews on stuff for a bit bit looses interest or gets distracted

Wow! thnx Stacy, a verry learning video for us. We are getting a bernese within a week. Nice to know in advance that we should keep biting down to a minimum. At least on our hands. We will ge some nice toys for him to bite down on...

What can I do about my 14/15 week old berner playing waaaaay too rough with the mouthing? He gets really excited and we do the “ow” and then he will lunge back and try biting again and really rough! He sometime snorts...we don’t know if this is play aggression or what! Any suggestions?

Funny you ask, Hazy is about the same age and doing the same thing! She tries to snuggle but her teeth are really hurting right now as she is losing her puppy teeth and erupting adult teeth. I make sure she has the 12" bully sticks to chew on, the Red Barn white knuckle bones and even the antlers. When I want to snuggle with her, I always have a toy she can grab on to and knaw, a little tougher than stuffy to help redirect her mouth. I may tap insistently on her nose to get her to stop too. But I agree, it hurts! I do know it will pass...

SitStay with Stacy Slade I hope so! I would say his reaction when playing is more “nipping” or “snapping”. We call him the little alligator. He actually does it in frustration too. Any suggestions? I don’t want the snapping in frustration to continue! I know he’s still little but the bigger he gets I’m sure you know the more challenging it will be!
@SitStaywithStacySlade
@SitStaywithStacySlade 4 жыл бұрын
@@robinpiccolo1078 What is he frustrated about? Can you give him a toy so he isn't frustrated? I also hold her cheeks so she can't bite me, or fold her lips into her teeth so they cover the teeth. If Hazy starts to get out of control I remove her from the situation to calm down or give her a good yummy chew toy. Basically I redirect her, not focus on the behavior since it is based on her teeth hurting. But if you focus on it, it could become a habit because it gets your attention, which is ultimately what your puppy is looking for (besides relief for his gums).

SitStay with Stacy Slade he gets frustrated when you tell him no. He talks back and snaps at you. Sometimes at your face :/
@SitStaywithStacySlade
@SitStaywithStacySlade 4 жыл бұрын
@@robinpiccolo1078 I would stop telling him no specifically, I would redirect, refocus and pull yourself out of the line of fire. What he is doing is not behavioral, it is because his teeth hurt. If he sasses you back, just stop the activity all together, the fun stops and no one interacts with him. Sort of like a 2 year old toddler, don't engage, they aren't rational. I ignore behaviors I don't like and they dissipate quicker (except demand barking I hop on that one quick with a correction).

Hi Stacy, our 9 week old Berner has been mouthing excessively. We replace our fingers, ears, the wooden coffee table, the couch, etc. with a Nyla bone/chew toy consistently and give him a stern "no." If he continues in disobedience, we hold his jaw closed. However, it frequently riles him up even more. We are met with snarls and barks. We give him a cold shoulder of attention, but he goes on chewing. I recognize he is teething and his mouth hurts, but we would love encouragement and assistance on how we can speed this process up or areas we could improve. I am nervous to bring him around children or non-dog loving people as he bites (intensely) their pants, hands, etc. Thanks so much for your assistance!

All of this is COMPLETELY normal puppy behavior. Getting him good chews that he can devour like 12" bully sticks, Red Barn White knuckle bones and raw knuckle bones. Puppies need to chew and chew a lot. I would invest in many bully stick type chews to help satiate his need to chew. Puppy play dates with appropriate puppies is also a good way to help get his energy out. Teething continues for a good couple months, and is normal. Please do not excessively reprimand him, just replace with good chews.

I have a 12 week old Bernese. I got him at 8 weeks but he was in the hospital for pneumonia. Since he is feeling so much better. I’ve been watching your videos to do training. But I feel I’m playing catch-up because we couldn’t train him at an early age. Recently I’ve been trying to address the issue with nipping and biting. He often does this with sneakers, loose clothes , or just when he gets overly excited with people. I tried the ouch thing but that seems to excite him more. Then I tried reverting his focus on a chew toy rather than my clothes I would have on. He responds well but then his attention span goes right back to my clothes or hands. What are some tips than you recommend that will help me addressing the nipping to me or to other people?
@SitStaywithStacySlade
@SitStaywithStacySlade 3 жыл бұрын
This is all completely normal! Continue exchanging for better chews and if he gets too rowdy remove him or you from the situation. Play dates with other appropriate puppies are also helpful. Puppies need a lot of great chews to satiate their need to chew to relieve the pain of teething. I promise, it does get better!

My puppy is 8weeks old and not really sleeping through the night... we have to wake up at 12am, 3am, and 5am to take him out and advice or suggestions on what we could do? I just wanna get some good sleep 😖😫😭
@SitStaywithStacySlade
@SitStaywithStacySlade 3 жыл бұрын
It will get better in a week. Sleeplessness is part of raising a puppy. Keep doing this. Make sure to wear out the puppy and make sure he gets good and tired before you go to bed. Also make sure the puppy is sleeping near you so they know you are close. In a few days the 12 am and the 3 am can move closer together. I also put a Red Barn White Knuckle bone in their crate with them.

Your puppy is about 2 weeks older than mine, but what I found that works for us is to pull water at 7pm and to sleep on the couch or within sight of puppy. typically our nights are looking like this: 7pm pull water, lights out 9:30-10pm, first potty break between 1-2pm, second potty break between 4 and 5. There are some nights where my pup will make it longer, but general rule of thumb is # of months + 1 for the amount of hours they can hold in their potty. If you have a significant other or someone else that can help, you can divide the night into shifts, so first person gets first shift and another person gets second shift. Thats what my wife and I have been doing and it has helped tremendously because we are each able to get a few cycles of deep sleep vs 1 person having to just get up every night. Good luck!!

We put our 8 week old girl in her crate and she slept til we got up at 6:30. She cried for about 5 minutes then went to sleep. She peed a couple times but is good now at 4 months and loves her crate.

How much food a day were you feeding the puppies in the video? I have a 10 week Bernese and he isn’t the size of yours. He is eating around 2.5 cups a day

As long as he is in good weight, then do what is right for your puppy. Generally at 10 weeks old I am feeding 3-4 cups a day over 3 meals.

My puppy is 4 months old and gets quite vicious at times. She wants to bite me. My husband does that where he let's her know she's hurting but with me ( main caregiver) she tries to bite my fingers so I make a fist then she stops. My husband feels I should let her bite but I have leukemia and don't heal as well from bites. I'm getting so discouraged. I hope its a phase.
@SitStaywithStacySlade
@SitStaywithStacySlade 3 жыл бұрын
It is a stage. Teething is part of raising puppies. She is not vicious, she is hurting and biting and chewing are the only way she can relieve the pain. Always have something to put in her mouth. I also put my hand in their mouth so they learn what is okay pressure and what isn't. Also puppy play time with another puppy helps to teach bite inhibition as they have better and clearer communication than humans.

@@SitStaywithStacySlade yeaaa, I was hoping it was a stage they go through. I should have said " looks so vicious at times". She's settled down and doesn't bite me recently only my husband. Now she's been barking...lol.
