My notes: *NEVER LET THEM BITE. EITHER PREVENT IT OR REDIRECT THEM* but don't discipline them for nipping until week 2 Week 1: relationship building and prevention (no training). HAND FEED their dinner to them, little bits at a time. Build value in "Yes" and their name. Maybe get them used to some handling by holding their collar. -*BE SURE TO TIME THE REWARD AND "yes" CORRECTLY* -*use houseline* -*use crate to give them safe space -*be patient and try your best* -*restrict certain areas of the house so they have a controlled environment to guarantee success* CRATE: First night; put crate as close as possible to your bed when you sleep. Exercises: give command: "go kennel." throw treats in crate. When she goes in say "YES." Keep throwing them so she stays in. Say "ok" to let her know she can come out. ONCE SHE FIGURES OUT THAT INSIDE CRATE = REWARD, don't reward her when she comes out the crate. This teaches her that being in the crate is the best part. Level up by closing door, yes and reward for being quiet/calm. Only keep her in there for a moment and stay calm to show it's not a big deal. ONLY reward her when she is in crate. Feeding: when not hand feeding, give those meals to her in the crate so she learn to eat in the crate. Put bowl in crate and shut door. Make sure she is calm and relaxed. Once value is built in the crate, don't let her barge out. Push the door closed if she barges out. Say "ok" for when she can come put and immediately put on housline. To make sure the puppy had a positive association with the crate, put her in there randomly for random periods of time so that she doesn't associate it with you leaving her. Keep training sessions a few minutes at a time. Trick them and go outside for a few seconds and then come right back in. To distract her, give her Kong with treats in it and then start getting ready. *NEVER LET THEM OUT WHEN THEY WHINE* Be sure to praise them when they're quiet. While they're quiet, take them out to see if they have to pee. Week 2: increase the challenge; prevention and supervision, LURING AND TRAINING: occasionally hand feed them and build more value on "YES" *KEEP HER SEPARATE FROM THE OTHER DOG* If puppy is out, Dorsey is put away. If Dorsey is out, put puppy away. This way puppy learns to be calm as Dorsey is out and about. *ONLY LET BOTH DOGS INTERACT ONCE EVERYONE HAS BONDED WITH THE PUP* and make sure she has some foundational things down. *MARK THEM (leave that!) WHEN THEY DO SMTH WRONG, PRAISE HER ONCE SHE REACTS TO UR VOICE, CORRECT BEHAVIOR, GIVE THEM A GOOD SUBSTITUTE FOR THAT BAD BEHAVIOR* Response to name in distractions: -say name -lure them towards you with food by putting the treat on the nose and lure them towards you *watch videos on games to play so they respond to their name (example in 49:02) Weeks 3-9: polite leash walking training, add more distractions. Make sure we have reliability from the dog. Continue to do restraint recalls but more challenging.(longer distances) *BE AWARE IF THEY CAN'T SUCCEED IN A CERTAIN SITUATION* for example if you bring the dog outside to train them for sit, go back as if you're at square one.

Long Island in the house!!!! These are some awesome training videos!! Came upon them by chance not knowing how I was going to go about training my puppy I picked up in the end of June 2021. We were definitely doing a few things to set her up to get yelled at :(, so happy to have learned so much already. So far my girl, Presley, is doing great! However, after we do our training sessions and some time has past and if I praise her and say good girl or whatever, she is looking at my hands for treats or kibble. Is that a usual thing for them to do? And also, sometimes Settle just does not work!!!! When she is at the stage of the day where she is obviously tired but nipping a lot, Settle just does not work and she continues to try to nip at my hand while holding her collar firm.

OMG! first time finding your video for me. You guys are awesome! I am not only a mom but a teacher of Child Development classes. Everything you say here about training your pups is exactly true for people training their kids. I call it ages and stages, such as what is appropriate for the kids to learn to do at just the right time of their development. Maybe y'all (yes, I am from TX) need to make some videos of how people need to spend more time engaging their children also. (love the part about how people just stick an iPad in front of their kids so they don't have to deal with them... I so hate that!) This video is awesome, I will continue to watch your videos. I am expecting a Rott puppy in about 4 more weeks and cannot wait!! I gotta have a well behaved big dog so I was looking for info. and I found you guys.

What I did to get my 12 week old Choc Lab to sleep in his crate was....every time he feel asleep outside his crate (starting at 7 weeks) I would pick him up and carefully put him in his crate. Every-time!! Now I say "Kennel up" and he gets up from where he is and walks into his crate. But I still lure him at times. I love this video!! You make it seem doable! It's very similar to my strategy for raising kids - help them get it right, make it easy to do the right thing and tricky to do the wrong thing, then increase freedom with maturity. That's very intuitive. The kids have been bugging me to get a dog, and I would like one, but the whole training/clicker business seemed so complicated. (Much like sticker charts for kids, I could never get the hang of those either, lol) You guys don't even use that. This way makes a lot of sense, you're just teaching the dog to be a good part of the family! Sure, it's a lot at the beginning, but the rewards of a well behaved dog are worth it. Just like it's worth putting the time in to teach your children... Why not end up with people you enjoy spending time with? It just takes a bit more effort at the beginning. Would you suggest letting the pup rush around from person to person when having the little pre-meal training? (Getting a kibble from each) Or maybe that would be too much for the dog, and it would be better to have maximum one child and one adult for those sessions?

First of all, Thank you for your awesome videos! River, my 8 week old boxer puppy, has beet with us for 3 days. we're following your method. It has been awesome so far. He is sleeping in his crate peacefully at night, no accidents in the house so far, thanks to the supervision. My question is about crate training during the day. He goes inside the crate for treats and meals, even waits inside the crate for more treats, but once I close the door, he does not care for treats anymore, just want to get out. How do you address the crying? should I say something or just wait for him to stop crying? I've seen you guys saying that crying and barking can be self rewarding. I don't want him to rehearsal the bad behavior... Thank you in advance!

I'm tuning in from Brisbane Australia also 😅 we get our Cavoodle puppy tomorrow and I am literally like exam cramming with your live video 😅🤣 We found your channel last Saturday night and have watched every single one related to puppies and crate training, stop biting etc. You are both AWESOME, I find all your videos very easy to comprehend and very clear and comprehensive. I was previously watching someone with over 1million subscribers and honestly you are 100 times more relatable and just more grounded (does this even make sense lol). I am honestly so certain you guys are going to get to big numbers soon in terms of views and subs but in the meantime people like me Really value your videos, time and effort. Thanks again guys from Australia 💕🐶👨‍👩‍👧
