Thanks for sharing your recipe! What does this soap smell like? Is it okay to add essential oil to it for fragrance?
@Thethingswellmake2 жыл бұрын
It's hard to describe- just a mild soapy smell. 🤣🤣 (Probably not helpful) But, yes, you can definitely add essential oils for scent. I add them when I dilute the soap paste in small batches, or when I'm adding the diluted soap to soap dispensers. It's the easiest way to do it and keep the scent fresh, and it also allows you to change up the scents in different dispensers.

If i don't have blender and crockpot ,can I still make them with whisk or hand mixer? Can you do with cold process?.thank you
@Thethingswellmake3 жыл бұрын
Yes, but I wouldn't recommend it. You could be whisking for an hour or more. (I've never tried it, but that's what I've heard.) That's especially true if you try to do it cold. If you don't cook the paste somehow, it will remain cloudy and the soap making process might not finish for quite some time. With liquid soap, if you cook it properly, you don't need a cure time and can use your soap immediately. If you read my liquid soap recipes and information, I give tips for baking it in the oven if you don't want to use a Crockpot. I really suggest looking for some sort of electric blender or mixer, though, to save yourself a lot of time and frustration!
@RealistNW3 жыл бұрын
Slow cookers are very low cost and you can always find one at a garage sale. Everyone is going to pressure cookers which gives them the option of pressure or slow cooking. No, I wouldn’t try to make Castile soap with a pressure cooker.

@@Thethingswellmake We do not have crockpots here in Turkey. What about cooking it in a stainless steel pot, over the stove, on lowest gas setting possible? Is there a particular reason for suggesting the oven?
@Thethingswellmake3 жыл бұрын
@@fefozu I suggested oven because I'd heard of other people using that method and I actually tried it last time and it worked. (I like the slow cooker better, though.) It's less likely to burn, but I think you could do it over very low heat on the stove. You'd have to be careful about the bottom not burning, though. Whatever method you choose, cover it. I didn't cover it in the oven, and it didn't work as well as if I had. If you try the stovetop, I'd love to hear how it goes. I haven't heard from anyone who has tried that method and it would help others!

@@Thethingswellmake Thanks for your answer. One of our stove's plates is clogged and only gives a very weak flame. Can be annoying, but is very useful in certain situations like this one 😉 I'll let you know if I can find the time to try it!

Do we use pomace or extra virgin olive oil?
@Thethingswellmake3 ай бұрын
Don't use pomace as the saponification vale is slightly different. Just use a regular olive oil. You can use extra virgin, but it doesn't need to be extra virgin for this recipe.
@johanpanjaitan134 Жыл бұрын
Can we replace the olive oil with virgin coconut oil?
@Thethingswellmake Жыл бұрын
You can't change out oils in a soap recipe without running it through a lye calculator, but I do have a coconut oil based liquid soap that is actually my favorite! thethingswellmake.com/homemade-liquid-coconut-oil-soap/

Thanks for the answer. Very appreciated. I do ask this question since in my country olive oil very expensive, that will be very pricey liquid soap. in other hand coconut oil is abundance here. Thanks, will checking the link you just shared.

CAN THE POTASSIUM HYDROXIDE BE SUBSTITUTED FOR THE SODIUM HYDROXIDE ?

Can I substitute the water with Aloe Vera juice?
@Thethingswellmake Жыл бұрын
My answer is going to be maybe... For bar soaps, you can generally add some aloe without issues. I haven't tried adding something like aloe to liquid soaps or studied it enough to know for sure, but I like to keep the soap paste itself as clean as possible (to ensure the process goes smoothly and end up with a clean paste that will keep well for a very long time.) I then make other additions when diluting the soap paste. While you could try to add a bit of aloe juice to the water when diluting the soap paste, you'd have to investigate the change in pH and perhaps look into a preservative that would work for the pH of your final product as aloe juice is notorious for making cosmetics much more prone to microbial growth and, therefore, more difficult to preserve. (Liquid soap is generally self-preserving because of its high pH.) Aloe juice is acidic and could possibly lower the pH of the liquid soap to the point that it is no longer self-preserving if enough is added. (Adding too much of something too acidic could even eventually break the soap up and make it no longer effective, so you have to be mindful of the pH when adding things to your soap paste.)

Thank you for sharing, I am new to soap making and like to clarify in bar soap, it needs to cure 4-6 weeks due to the lye, but this liquid soap made with lye can be used right after diluting and bottling? thank you in advance for your insight.

I just read through your blog recipe and I'm inspired. :) Is there any reason I should not half this recipe? I don't have quite enough ingredients for a full-size batch but I can do half, and I have a smaller crockpot. Thanks for sharing this with us!
@Thethingswellmake3 жыл бұрын
The finished paste keeps really well for a really long time, so I prefer making larger batches, but, other than that, there really isn't any reason you can't make half. Just make sure that you divide all of the ingredients in half!

Can you describe detail composition? If I wanna make in cold process, it's different?
@Thethingswellmake2 жыл бұрын
I always link to the full recipes in the descriptions. In this case, you can find it here. thethingswellmake.com/easy-beginner-diy-liquid-castile-soap-recipe/ Liquid soaps aren't made in the same way. I almost always cold process my hard soaps, but haven't had much luck trying to cold process liquid soaps. You end up with an opaque paste that dilutes cloudy. I talk more about that in this post: thethingswellmake.com/how-to-make-liquid-soap-start-here/

@@Thethingswellmake can I make it in using gas fire and stainless steel pot with very slow flame ?
@Thethingswellmake2 жыл бұрын
@@magnificentmonarch7941 Probably, but you'd have to keep a close eye on it not to burn it. The heat would have to be very low, and you'd have to try to stir it more often to prevent burning on the bottom. Keep it covered when not stirring so that the moisture doesn't all evaporate away. You may find that you need to add more water with this method to make it work too.
