I think Darnold will really surprise a lot of Vikes fans. Just consider that Baker has beaten Kirk and the Vikes on his last 2 visits to US Bank with the Browns and Bucs. Baker went 1-6 at the Panthers with CMC, but Darnold finished that season 4-2 without CMC. I think he'll be fine in this Vikes offence.

@@martygras378 Sure but most of that is old history at the Jets. More recently in 2022 he had 3 INTs in 6 starts when he finished 4-2 with the Panthers in 2022. That extrapolates out to the typical number for good QBs - Mahomes had 14 last season, Josh Allen 18, Tua 14, Herbert 7, Goff 12, Dak 9, Lawrence 14, Stafford 11, Hurts 15. And his only INT in 2023 was a virtual hail Mary in the redzone when he as trying to close the gap after taking over from Purdy who was trailing the Ravens 30-10 in the 4th.

I am eager to see JJ play as much as a lot of the fan base. But I'm perfectly fine seeing him sit all of 24' also. Say we do start 1-5, is putting JJ in that situation helping the team and him for the sake of sneaking into the playoffs at best....I dunno anything is possible, he could go in and light it up right out the bat too. Either way should be an interesting season.

Darnold went 500 with the Panthers roster, when all others went 5-28. He is too competent now, and the roster is too sound for the Sam to be any worse than 500, even if things go wrong.

Let's come back to the Vikes 2022 draft class after this season. They have all had injury setbacks and scheme changes. They are also elite athletes. Just remember judging a player on his first 2 seasons - then Metellus would be a bust after only 16 defensive snaps in his first season, and only 54 in his second season. Some guys just need a bit of time and a bit of luck. Look at how Chandler started to emerge late last season after finally staying healthy.

I think we are in for one of those seasons that comes outta nowhere. Randall Cunningham came off the street and lit it up. Brett farve was a quarter of a million years old and was an MVP candidate . Case keenum was a career back up. All those guys became world beaters. It would be the most vikings thing to ever happen to have Sam Darnold tear it up and we find ourselves in a qb controversy next season.

And his only INT for the 49ers was a hail Mary at the end of the Ravens game. He is nothing like Mullens or Dobbs. He was 8-9 with a weak Panthers roster. He will be fine with KOC's play calling and this offence.

Some journalists and analysts think they understand the Compensatory pick formula and Vikes FA decision making process better than Rob Brzezinski salary cap master and economist Kwesi. My money is on the Vikes FO getting it right. Note that Griffin's guaranteed salary and dead cap hit is $3.99m, just under the supposed $4m threshold to qualify for the Comp pick formula... We'll find out next year.

Here's the thing with te Jets contract... with Kirk, it was short term, fully guaranteed so there was no flexibility and we had a ton of big contracts for aging vets AND failed terribly at drafting. Jets' contract won't be fully guaranteed, we don't have hardly anybody on a big contract, and as bad as 2022 was, overall Kwesi is probably drafting better than Rick was during the Kirk era sadly.

We've already seen KOC panic and start a young QB before he was ready when he started Jaren Hall last year ... after completely botching the Dobbs situation and not being able to turn Mullens into anything more than what he was. And now for some reason people think he's going to fix Darnold, know when JJ is ready, and not screw up this situation. Somehow the guy still has the QB whisperer label despite constantly proving otherwise. He's really getting a lot of miles out of being the guy who held a clipboard for Sean McVay.

Darnold was "fixed" late in his Panthers tenure, and then Shanahan continued the work, and gave up on Trey Lance to make him back up to Purdy, and he played just as efficiently as Purdy in that offence.

The guys who can't handle people being critical of MN sports teams are one of the reasons we never have sustained success. People are just content with Kirk Cousins winning us one play off game in 6 seasons when the expectations were for him to potentially win us 3-4 in one season. McCarthy is the most ready to play early of any of the QB prospects. Obviously intelligent, he picked up Harbaugh's offense enough to appear in 11 games as a true freshman. He won the starting job as a true sophomore and never looked back, compiling a 27-1 record as a starter and earning a National Championship. (He also led two different schools to championships in high school.) He played in Harbaugh's offense - used with the 49ers, at Michigan, and now with the Chargers. He called plays in the huddle, made checks and adjustments at the LOS, and operated from the shotgun and from under center. He is excellent at true play action passing from under center with his back turned to the defense and not just RPOs used in most college systems. He is also super competitive and wants to win. I think he puts in the time and effort necessary to win the starting job right away.
