My heritage is from the Middle east. My Mother used to go to the backyard pick purslane off the ground and make a yogurt called Jajek. The recipe consists of homemade sour yogurt, purslane and cucumbers.It’s absolutely delicious!

I got a spontaneous outbreak of purslane in my sweet potatoes. I'm really glad I did some research before I pulled it up. It's currently at war with the ground ivy for control of the sweet potato patch lol. Cover crop *and* tasty vegetables, for the price of nothing

This plant is the answer to world hunger in drought stricken and poor nations. Purslane can be the savior from starvation. Purslane and drought tolerant sweet potato should provide enough nutrition and vitamins.

I read that Spurge has a milky fluid if you break the stem and Purslane does not, also that its smaller than purslane. I just harvested some, after it exploded out of the flower pot. I ate a leaf to make sure i dont get sick. It had no fluid at all just a clean wet looking center like breaking an asparagus. I'm planning on making a chimichurri sauce for steak tomorrow, and tonight i'll steam some with a bit of cotija sprinkled over it.

Purslane never has milky sap! Typically yes, spurge is thinner but for sure spurge has a milky latex when you snap the stem open.

That's crazy! Last year when I decided to try my hand at gardening infront of my apartment I had this growing in one of the bins. I wasn't surr what it was at first so I left it alone. I thought it looked pretty but eventually I pulled it out bc I assumed it was a weed and i thought it was taking nutrients away from my tomatoes plant that was growing in thr same bin. This year it came back again. I left it alone as I didn't plant anything in that bin. I guess I will go harvest some now 🤣🤣🤣🤣

@brandysolo9165

The spurge has much thinner stems, which when broken, have a milky white sap that is toxic. White, glue-like sap = NO GOOD. Beware. If you break the stem and it's clear, it's likely purslane.
