The lighter Speer(such as Gold Dots) tend to get some very nice velocity gains from a Ruger PCC. When they are +P they are moving about the speed of a .357 Mag bullet from a revolver. Though how the bullets would hold up at that velocity(especially at close-range) would be interesting to find out. Another bullet that might be interesting to see is the (9BP)9mm 115gr Federal Hi Shok. That appears to be the standard pressure version of the renown (9BPLE)Federal LE 115gr +P+. If the carbine boosts the velocity significantly, it might essentially cause the standard pressure bullet to perform like the 9BPLE does from a handgun.

HST uses fast burning powder, so it doesn't gain any speed past around 6" barrel, in fact it looses speed

Love seeing the Carbine at 28 yards. That's about exactly the distance from my backdoor to the alley (city living). And Taco Bell Hits the Fan from back there once in a while. And I know those fools are armed. BTW: excellent shooting those 2 shots into the gel. Couldn't get more accurate with that placement. I second another viewers comment - would love to see some elite 9mm brands from the same distance. Thanks Tools 👍

I was just looking up the Starfire because it looks exactly like HST and found this quote. “If you are not familiar with the Starfire line, it has been around for several decades. The bullet was designed by Tom Burczynski. Burczynski is the designer of several major bullet designs including the Hydra-Shok, Expanding Full Metal Jacket and HST used by Federal”. I guess that explains it.

I think 12 to 15 yds would be a more realistic self defense distance from my bedroom to the front door is just over 10 yards. unless you are returning fire 20 yds, and over would be hard to justify self defense wise. moot point though because they did great at 28 yds. so I guess they would do the same at 10 to 15 yards.

It would be nice seeing a relatively close-range test for those who may consider using a carbine as a (inside)home defense weapon. Though this test he did today does finally confirm something I read in the past about shooting a PCC further down range. The bullets perform nearly the same as if they were fired from a pistol at something close range.

Those Interceptors do what the Norma MHPs can't. Great round if that's what you want. I ran Starfires back in the 90s about the time of the Black Talon controversy. That is what I look for in ammo.

Great idea shooting from the longer barrel. I think more interesting data could be gleaned from shooting closer, think inside the house kind of range. Would be interested in seeing what some of these rounds do when pushed a little harder than maybe they were designed to be pushed. Great video as always!!!!!

You might enjoy shooting a .40 Smith and Wesson in a carbine. .40 gains a LOT in a longer barrel. 10mm velocities and more. I have a Sub 2000 and a Beretta CX4 in .40... they really whack the steel.

With some ammo especially ammo designed for short barrels the powder burns too fast and burns up before the projectile leaves the barrel and then the friction starts killing the velocity. When I first got my carbine I figured all ammo would greatly increase in velocity but that's not always the case. It took a little research for me to understand why I wasn't getting crazy high velocitys with all ammo. Good video let's people know not all ammo is designed to be fired out a carbine.

Love the PCC tests. My preferred home defender is a PCC in .40 A friend of a friend used my 40 and 45 cal carbines to test. When it comes to velocity, he claims the 40 benefitted more from the longer barrel than a 9 and the 45 benefitted less. I'm not sure he was comparing apples to apples however.

Personally what ever you pick, keep it consistent from one video to another. Nothing I hate more about comparison video (could be comparing anything) is when they are a apple to orange comparison even by the same person. And that's one reason I enjoy your videos because you keep it as close to apples to apples for a average KZbinr without turning it in some NASA level science experiment.

PMC makes decent factory pistol ammo as far a reliability goes, but they are becoming known for boolits that do not expand at normal velocities. I have tested some of their 180gr semi-jacketed hollow point in 44 mag, and the lead formulation they're using is very hard. As a consequence, it acts like an FMJ with exposed lead even at the fairly high fps they generate. They really don't expand.

I see the value of testing both the pistol and the carbine at 10 yards with these ammos. If you are carrying this as your EDC gun ammo, you'll know what it'll do. If you have this in your 9mm PCC as a home defense option, you'll know what it'll do.

28 yards might not be self-defense distance, but you could certainly say it is deer hunting distance if one was to use a 9mm carbine to hunt with, which is certainly possible. Granted, I don’t believe either of these ammo options would be what I would choose to hunt with, but there’s gotta be some options that you could try if you put your mind on the task of finding suitable 9mm whitetail-getters

Those Starfire bullets were terrible in performance back in the 90’s. PMC lost to the very popular Federal Hydrashok in the Self Defense market.

I have seem about a half dozen videos where the 357 Sig was used and half of those were COM one shot stops the perps dropped so fast the officers didn't have time to get a second shot. If the 357 Mag was still being used by LEA it would have the same results.

First I love the carbine and pcc tests it adds variety to data I would like to test done at same distance as pistols because at self defense distance some 9mm carbine can generate ft lbs equal to .357sig or basic 10mm also at closer distance it gives more data about bullet limitation regarding fragmentation and over expansion we have tons of data as far as failing to expand because lack of velocity love all your tests 👍👍

More Carbine! Yay! I think the +P and +P+ is the way to get the most out of a long barrel. With that said, the starfire did great. I'm not a fan of the huge expansion limited penetration rounds except in very specific environments. Great test as always!

Unfotunately, the Interceptor jammed multiple times in my Kiger 9C (Glock 19 clone, 3.91 inch barrell) while I was testing it. I'm disappointed because I wanted this to be my carry round with the massive expansion. I've settled on Hornady Critical Defense instead. I emailed Ballistic Machinist and they couldn't understand how it could happen, as they said they tested it in Glocks.

The PMC starfire seems like an excellent budget round as long as you use it in a full size handgun or maybe a PCC at "home defense" distances. Out of something like an 8 inch barrel you _might_ even see slightly better velocity, because 16 inches might have been long enough that you were past the point of diminishing returns and friction may have been hurting more than the barrel length helped. MAYBE. out of a CZ Skorpion or an MP5 sized gun with an 7.5-8 inch barrel that would be a pretty solid budget home defense round.

Fun test! I picked up some AAC with XTP a while back to run in an AKV and an AR9. It would be interesting to see if they would perform better out of carbine length vs what they did with pistol length barrels. Thanks for the vid! 💥👍💥

I think the AKV is a 10.5 inch and the AR9 is a 16 inch. 124gr XTP. Took me a while to find them in my cluster. 😆 I should really get my ammo organized better sometime. 🤔... or shoot more often and use some up. I guess there are worse problems to be had. 😂

more carbine 9mm tests plz. I own 3 different length carbines. so I will take any bonus carbine coverage I can get. also in your experience, are the heavier 124, 147 ish better for rifle like 9mm tools?
