📺Tayo started his challenge of learning how to kitesurf in 7 days. In this video, he presents his progression and how he reached his goal. He also shares his own experience offering 15 tips and tricks a beginner should know. This video can be used by beginners in addition to all available resources on KZbin. Perhaps you can learn from the mistakes he has made, and he can motivate you to start something you always wanted to do.
Our Pushmentee has a board- and water sport background with experiences in sailing Optimist Xylon, 420, 470 and Hobie Cat 16, wave surfing, skate- and snowboarding. He also loves being out in nature, especially as an engineer working most of the time in front of the computer. Finding his work-life balance is important for him.
He was always impressed by the freedom of the sport as well as its maneuvers, tricks and unlimited possibilities to improve and keep pushing personal boundaries. The sky is (not) the limit! As he enjoys traveling he can actually travel with kite gear easily, and that is indeed a big advantage compared to all the other water sports he did before.
Why now?
For him, there was always an excuse whether it was the money, the weather, time, respect or fear of handling harsh north sea conditions with tides, currents and strong winds. He always had a reason not to go for it. Now as he turned 34, he felt that time is running even faster, financial limits are not an argument anymore and the weather at the North Sea shore close to his home is reliable in terms of wind. Not trying it out would be a bigger regret. Finally, he decided to learn how to kitesurf.

Excellent video! What an awesome progression series. Much faster than most. The fact that you ride both directions and learned transitions says it all!!! Way to go! You definitely have some water/athletic skills, and your instructors appear to be top notch! Your video has inspired me to get back on the water and continue my progression. Hey, thanks for your thoughts and sharing another great tip! I still feel like being a beginner, even if I am jumping around now. It’s good that you don’t consider yourself as „ready“ as thinking this way would probably end up in a bad crash. But I can tell you, as you started a couple of weeks ago, this journey will bring you a lot of fun. So far I didn’t surf in the Netherlands. I arranged myself with the local surf school, renting equipment on a flat rate base but most likely will go there next year, as those beaches a very tempting! Every now and then I surf the Baltic Sea, you can find some really nice spots as well.

I dont think I realized just how difficult this was going to be to learn. Especially alone as I live in kansas and I've never seen anyone on our lakes kitesurfing.. we have good winds for it but it's not a steady wind
@Pushment
@Pushment 2 жыл бұрын
Hey James, a few things to keep in mind and learn but really worth it! You should indeed not learn by yourself on a lake with no reliable winds. Generally it depends on the surrounding area and it’s specifics like hills and forests that might lead to unsteady winds.I would give it a try under better conditions with a professional coach, maybe during next vacation or the next lake with a proper kite spot. Then you can figure out whether it’s even your sport or not. Give it a try and let us know if you’ve found something!

Yeah but I want to be able to go when I have time and not have to travel to the coast or something. I tried the other day but I just couldn't keep the kite up long enough to get the board on my feet. I did some body dragging in the water but to depower all the way you cant even reach the bar! I dono why they make that part so long.. I want to do it sooo bad but I don't want to get caught up in lines and drown or something lol I have a 14 m slingshot. It seems way too delayed in response for my liking and it's so hard to keep it in the air. If you just try and fly it in one spot it wants to pass me and then the lines go slack, I have to constantly keep moving it around doing figure 8s or something. I just wish it would stay put like in videos I see.

Thanks for worrying and most likely just misunderstood, there was a 1:1 coach VWDS-certifies permanently attending, water drag as well as self rescue has been trained in the beginning and the surfschool is the head VWDS school here in Germany. Even today I've got a trainer by my side for practicing my first jumps. Material was new and appropriate as the surfschool is official test center for cabrinha products as well. To be honest I don't know what length of lines we used. I wanted to learn safely and decided to get a coaching the entire first season. I totally agree to you! Thanks but I think it was really helpful to go through the theory properly. I really had the single steps already in my mind as I almost took one day for preparation. I watched videos and read through basics of the water start. The preparation always saved time during the course ä. On the water everything comes together and it is pretty hard to think/learn and do in practice at the same time. Most important is that you have made it and that you are still off for kitesurfing! Are you?

from 0 to 100 in 7 days how is that supposed to work? I recommend every beginning kiter to start out on land with a small toy matt kite to get the first feeling of what how, where and when a kite is able to perform.even with such small kites, many will quickly realize that the wind has the say and that you are just hanging on at the bottom.first separate the wheat from the chaff.If hopefully there is still interest in kiting, you are welcome to try a more powerful mat.but directly on the water with the kite without any idea of wind conditions, wind direction, possible currents, etc. I don't think it's particularly good.If possible, I recommend starting with landboarding snowkiting first and then simply switching to the water to ride just as well as before on land or snow.

Hey indeed you need some time to learn. Even after 7 sessions I did not feel entirely prepared and had further training. After 2 or 3 sessions you should be able to ride at least in both directions. Hey Rick, as mentioned in the video I’ve had experience with wake boarding and I am a passionate sailor, so even if not perfect it did end up very well the first day. I was also pretty prepared with the theory as I really have taken a day before to study what I need to consider. It makes a difference if you do not have to combine everything the day you have freshly learned the theory. In the end a very good 1:1 coach made this possible. It's easier to get on the board in shallow water, which gets you doing what you want faster, but to get competent and safe it's important to learn what to do in deep water too. The place I learned has a package - two days from shore; one from a boat. But I really wasn't read for boat - even though it was good to get over fears.
