I feel for Russian soldiers, too, and for Russian people. They were and are lied to, they are and were deceived and they were and are threatened by the loss of their lives and loss of their loved ones to follow Putin. Some Russian families will never know where their sons are, they went into battle and will never come back. "Missing in action" or "deserted" will be the claim though the reality will be "deceased". Overall, this war is just a stupid waste of human lives, resources etc. So much pain on both sides and for what? Putin can't keep Ukraine, even if he were to win. China was moving toward being an international partner before Xi took over and decided to take the country's politics backward 30 years. North Korea's people could prosper if they opened up and allowed external integration and investment, particularly with their southern cousins. But there's one common theme here: They operate based on what's best for the people in power, not what's best for the nation or its citizens. Sure the Russian people might have been better off, but could Putin own a multi-billion dollar mansion? A near-billion dollar yacht? Unlikely. And now he wants to build a legacy as the guy who reunited the USSR, but that's turning out to be too much of a stretch for his hubris and history is going to end up writing him as the guy who ruined Russia, no matter how the war itself turns out.
