For Americans everything revolves around money, for europeans everything revolves around history. American has wars to make more money, Europe has wars because 500 years ago a piece of land belonged to someone else. I guess that's what Putin was trying to explain to Americans. kind of a history lesson about the region in question. but as Schulz so well demonstrates, Americans don't have that sense for historical belonging worth fighting for I guess

A large amount of the weapons we are sending is old weaponry, not brand new weapons that are currently being produced. Money is being sent over to pay off soldier wages and weapons maintenance, as well as straight up money laundering

Proof of the money laundering? You are just repeating shit you heard on twitter or from someone, but you actually understand and can show where there is money laundering happening? My mate was there for 18 months and only got $8400 U.S for his time over there. Allot of that money isn't paying for soldiers but instead police, ambulance, firemen and state services to keep public order and to keep the economy running. And yes my mate says theres is allot of corruption but not the kind you're thinking off. Corruption for self interest has been hit hard with the hammer since the 2022 invasion and many have been arrested but of course some are still doing it but they will get court eventually. Most of the corruption today in Ukraine is really just soldiers and commanders stealing equipment and money from what ever source they can. Not for self profit but to help their men and units at the front get what they need to fight or simply survive.

As a Ukrainian, thanks for actually being informed on the war issue Schulz. It always boggles my mind how so many Americans are so ignorant on the issue in terms of WHERE the money is going, lapping up the stupid rhetoric of "we're just sending money to Ukraine we need to use here! Border! Immigration! Platitudes, platitudes, platitudes!" It's just so juvenile and childish way of reasoning and no understanding of the nuance. "Funding" Ukraine is profitable for USA (hence the issue of military industrial complex in previous wars), but in this case, it's MUTUALLY BENEFICIAL for Ukraine because they're not fighting some holy jihad or funding terrorism, Ukraine WANTS to fight for its freedom (just like USA did, just like Ireland, and every other nation fighting its neighbour/ruler) and they simply are smaller and less equipped than the "superpower" Russia. This means a mutual handshake where USA doesn't need to lose soldiers, funds its own economy, helps out and looks good on the international stage, and Ukraine gets what it needs. Of course, in an ideal world, Ukraine would actually get all it needs because Ukraine is still fighting with one hand tied behind their back without the promised jets, no air superiority, no long-range ordinance, and thus was forced to innovate drone warfare which is a whole amazing thing in and of itself. But I'm glad Schulz got informed and broadened his understanding. Geopolitics and war is a messy thing and it's not a simple black and white.

Yea he’s not desperate….its the opposite. He’s 1000% confident that they can maintain this for years. This isn’t taxing Russia at all their economy is growing while being under more sanctions than ever Ukraine has no tactical advantages they are just gambling on our money and support being enough and that can’t go on forever SO….Putin knows that our only move to shake things up and maybe change the outcome is all out war…..and that’s a scary destructive place to be. Like what are our moves if Russia can sustain this forever and we can’t? It’s to go all in So Putin is laying this out while saying he’s open to peace….not out of weakness…but because he knows maniacs are in charge of NATO….and he’s trying to say let’s not go there because it would be terrible for everyone So that’s not desperation in my mind he seems pretty unemotional

Ukraine is in terrible shape right now. Average age of men raised to mid 40s due to mass casualties of war, previous military leader just fired for telling the truth that its not a winnable war, and opposing political parties banned with the threat the cancel elections. The Donbas region took a near unanimous vote to break off of Ukraine and rejoin Russia. Ukraine was a far better position at the beginning of the war and were about to negotiate peace before Boris Johnson came in and persuaded them to fight it out….US and UK bear a lot of responsibility for Ukrainian deaths. Schultz is also wrong on Ukraine aid take…the majority of it go to military industrial complex, but billions are going to paying salaries of Ukrainian citizens
@DaveOwers
@DaveOwers 8 ай бұрын
Russia started this in 2014 when they took over Crimea, then the Donbas. Igor Girkin led the SMO in those regions and declared himself Supreme Commander of DPR in May of 2014. I agree that Ukraine was in a far better position before all of this started, there are lots of videos of Donetsk from 2012, they were hosting matches in the Euro Cup and life was good. I believe most regular people just want their family life and are not super interested in politics. But I think this was always going to happen, Putin has been lamenting the breakup of the Soviet Union in speeches since 2005. And in April 2014 Putin spoke on TV about Novorossiya which for him included Crimea, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Zaphorizhia, Kherson, Mikolaiv, and Odessa. The US and the UK did not provoke this, Putin told everyone what he was going to do and he is working on it. I think the only thing the US and the UK is guilty of is not believing him.

It is not an excuse to invade, but it is revelent that Ukraine and Russia are culturally and historically connected. When Germany invaded France it was just a takeover. There are many people in Ukraine that welcome Russia into their country. Doesn't make it right, but it adds some complexity to the circumstances.
