Hey PowerNation someone from Canada did a restomod on a 1985 Mercury Grandmarquis 2 door coupe. It has a frame out of an 07 Crownvic with upgraded brakes and suspension, 96 Grandmarquis dash that has been painted black, S197 Mustang seats and console, and a 5.4L DOHC 32V V8 out of an 03 Lincoln Navigator with 03 Cobra heads, 96-98 Cobra camshafts, an Aussie Boss 290 intake manifold, and a Mercury Marauder airbox along with Longtube headers, an X-pipe, and a Dynomax cat-back exhaust in the result of making 341 HP and 351 Ibs of torque at the rear wheels along with a 5-speed manual transmission to make it all fun. The engine he swapped in before was a Procharged 4.6L SOHC 2V V8 making 390 HP and 386 Ibs of torque at the rear wheels along with a 4r80W automatic transmission. My uncle was the manager of a Lincoln Mercury dealer. He drove the biggest car that happened to be licensed and he frequently handed off his current ride to me to taxi family around for events. In the Marquis, one could taxi a great deal of family in pillowy, floaty comfort, wafting down the road in a kind of minimized sine wave of suspension motion. All in all, a monumental, barge-like gas guzzler with nice leather and antarctic level A/C.

Whats the guess on fuel mileage?? With an 1100 hp Dinosaur engine , even updated its based on 1960's technology so I'd say 2-3 gallons per quarter mile. The new Dodge Demon uses 4 gallons per 1/4 mile pass... so this beast is a virtual gas sipper

@@trillrifaxegrindor4411 sounds like somebody's had their feelings hurt already. Nowadays, for all you boys that race in straight lines, and for what's considered to be decent horsepower you're going to have to tub everything and anything to get it to stick. Look at what those diesel pickup guys have to deal with, a lot of them are faster than most of you and they're doing it with something that weighs more than 6000 pounds. For a street car I like the idea of trying to make one of these big cars fast, they are comfortable, nicer to drive on the road, have more room and have class, and that's something every Vette made the last 40 or so years doesn't have.. CLASS. I wouldn't be caught dead driving one of those things.. the "Corvette".. aka "the rolling billboard that screams I'm having a midlife crisis". Oh and even worse, the third gen F bodies.. the "ultimate white trash POS I married my cousin" car..

@@walkerforsyth6221 What you would have is a heap of shit that nobody else wants. Then wasted a bunch of money on a monster motor to move that same super heavy, non-handling, non-stopping, heap of shit. Put that same engine in a Torino and you'll get your ass handed to you by a car that's actually worth something. That Marquis was worth more with the original engine and all the power goodies and AC hooked up.

When I was in my early 20’s (early 2000’#) I worked for a Ford dealer and a customer traded in a ‘72 Marquis with a 429 big block, power everything and functioning A/C. Gave $150 for it and gave it to my dad. He drove it everywhere. From Arkansas to Alabama many times. I just had to replace the brakes on it and that was it. The best deal I ever got on a car. And my dad enjoy driving that boat after not having a car for 10+ years.

Hey, maybe we shouldn't be too hard on the guy, from the way it sounds and looks, he's most likely married to his "mom sister/ combo". And with that particular phrase he did use there it indeed makes me believe that it is most likely an older sister at that, and these gals typically wear the pants in these sorts of relationships and they like to play a game called "ball smashing".. I see this almost entirely everyday in the 3rd gen F body community, and without proper diagnosis and heavy dosing of testosterone shots permanent damage can occur as the brain will eventually cease communications with the glands in the body that produce testosterone, eventually rendering the victim to have the permanent mental status of something similar to a five year old girl..

here's a tip for all you guys that have trouble installing a trans of any kind to your engine, way back in the 60s i started doing this, take extra long bolts that fit the bellhousing, cut the head off and grind the end of your home made stud to a point. screw a couple in, or however many you want, and you can just let the studs line up your trans to the engine, simply unscrew the studs and put your bolts in. i still have a drawer full of different size studs i made for different applications. made it easier after i got too old to man handle those heavy transmissions.

The problem I have always run into, is 1965 to 1979 frames rot where the control arms bolt in. I ripped the 9 inch out of my 73 Marquis, a 67 Monterey, 68 Custom 500, etc. Another cool feature from the early 70's, was start the car, put your foot firmly on the brake petal, and wing the throttle, she would jump into reverse every time. If you are still reading this, the cheapest horsepower boost for 1973 and up, is to buy a pre-1970 429 timing set.

Those was the kind of cars that were like kind off roads springs. you run over speed bumps and curbs the loose springs and weight absorb the bump and is so smooth riding doing it the speed bump killer.

Save that 429. They are getting hard to find. Besides, it just might be one of the leftovers from the cobra jet projects that for put in LTD's, station wagons and other cars just like this. Run the numbers, you might get a pleasant surprise.

power steering adapters to run a saginaw power steering pump ? ford used them from the factory in the E series vans , play with the years and you can easily find a hose that connect at both ends and work with minor tweaking / bending of the steel ends for correct routing , been there done that more than once ...

Cool project. Personally, a little less horsepower and a stick shift would be cool. Think like in "Gator" and "White Lightning". There is something special about driving a huge car with a manual trans . Of course, this is gonna be cool like it is. Keep up the good work guys .

I`d love to know what music they used in this video but those artists/songs listed in the description make no sense. Anyone help please? Especially at 12:12.

For all you potential Marquis owners out there, they pulled a 385 series engine and C6 transmissions and replaced it with a 385 series engine and C6. If you wanted to keep your accessories intact... just swap them over, mounts and all. Yes, V belts can throw at high RPM, like they said, but that's a risk you take.
