With these Fisher Bullet pens, put the cap at the back of the pen to make it a "normal sized" pen which holds/writes a lot easier.

It will probably work for a little bit but it wont feed the ink down so it will eventually stop writing. And in a vacuum it would definitely dry out instantly.

I had one. It worked fine as a pen but the pocket clip sucked and kept sliding off. Doubt I would get another when other pens with better ergos are designed around the cartridge

NASA spent millions of dollars developing this pen for zero gravity. When the Russians saw it... Once that they'd finished laughing at it said. We just use a pencil ✏️

NASA did too. But NASA wasn't keen of using pencils as they are flammable and NASA would absolutely minimize the flammable objects on board (after the Apollo 1 fire). Fisher made the pen by themselves, NASA had nothing to do with the invention of the pen. Nor did NASA pay anything. So NASA got a good pen for free while the Russians had to struggle on with their pencils.

because of what it was invented for. It was invented in the heat of the space race. It made it easier in zero gravity to write. Just ask Jim Lovell from Apollo 13. When they we freezing and condensation was on everything in both space crafts. Those pens were important for writing down instructions to get home.

I’ve always had a rite in the rain notepad in my packs, idk if it counts on that man! Feel like the pen was just trying to push through the grease to write on the coated paper itself. Then again, outside of water or actual space, what the hell could you test it on haha. Cool vid tho. I might have to pick one up. Makes me think of when I was younger, the Seinfeld episode about the “space pen”.

yes but the lead can break and they don't have a sharpener up there for any missions. The pen worked better.

Nope. Pencil lead is graphite and when you write with one it sends little flakes and dust floating everywhere. Graphite is extremely conductive and it can float into computers and cause a severe short or problem, it can float into the eyes of other people… etc. You would never want something so messy and potentially dangerous in space. The original pencils they used were wax, basically a crayon wrapped in wood and they very quickly invented the space pens to solve the issue.
