Putting together a Budget 4x4 Offroad Recovery Kit

I put together a 4x4 Recovery Kit as a gift for my friend who is one of those chronically unprepared travelers. For most of the items, I went with budget options but I never skimp on the snatch strap.

Very thoughtful and a nice gift. One thing that's not necessarily recovery/off road related, but it kind of goes with it is lug wrenches to fit ALL of the lug nuts. Sometimes the spare might have different nuts. Sometimes there are wheel locks, especially on the spare. Make sure you are able to remove/replace all of them. And make sure your jack is present and it works. OK, that's more than one thing, but you get the drift.

good basic kit with your shovel add - i'd toss in a basic first aid kit. even though you mentioned it as a different category of gear, i have found that sometimes during recoveries, someone gets a ding, scrape or cut. at the infamous montero rollover in socal, i worked on the driver who'd caught some shattered glass in his scalp while others worked with our pooled recovery gear to get his rig back onto the wheels - then we drove it off the trail. anyway, i keep a small first aid kit in the recovery bag.
