Now do the same with "bearpaw powerglas" (or a decent bow maker glas from a other brand)!

Another excellent build. I liked the Ballsy it's too light let me just cut 18cm off....😮. Does the pvc stay glued on? What epoxy did you use for that?
@Helmbowman5 ай бұрын
Hahaha thanks bro! Ive used some epoxy from hardware store, its called Bison, it stayed glued on very good, i tested that off-cut pieces try to break it and pvc fail every time, no delaminations

@@Helmbowman excellent I must try some more pvc glue ups. Haven't had that much success so far. Guess I need to rough it up more.

@jarchdm Probably, good luck!

Maybe i will try to glue it on belly, basically make like glass laminated bow, but with the pvc strips, they are much less stiff than glass, but they maybe could work well

@@Helmbowman yep there's a proud tradition of making pvc bows so why not. Or a hybrid with glass on the belly?

I wonder if I can use pvc on the belly of a bow? Like horn. Is pvc good under pressure?
@Helmbowman5 ай бұрын
Its not excellent in compression like horn, but i think it can be used for lower stress bows, i should try that

@Helmbowman: Interesting, but a bit confusing- would you mind adding a bit of details on the PVC, may be demonstrating how well it bends before glueing it, sharing also the cross section ? So if this was an uniform material with no direction/grain, then it should have an tensile strength of 3.5MPa to 75MPa- that's a very big range from very weak to average, so it really makes a difference what exact product you are using. As comparison, most average woods are between 50MPa and 100MPa I have seen so far. But I know of PVC only bows, just never seen any chrono measurement, so I don't know if there's may be flavours of PVC around with a good performance. I doubt it a bit, if it's not specially treated. Also the MDF wood layer on top probably cost some performance- why exactly was this added ? Can PVC rip under tear? difficult to believe. However, I liked the bow shape a lot, this is a triangular bow, no ? very elegant curves, probably good performance. best regards

Thanks for comment! The MDF layer was just for glue up, it was removed later, it serves as pressure strip to keep PVC backing flat, because sometimes the pressure from rubber bands can bend backing and makes cupping effect… Unfortunately i dont have lot of information on that PVC profile, i get it from hardware store and its just labeled as PVC profile, its 2mm thick, but its really flexible and hard to break… The shape of bow reminds me on Egyptian angular bow or modern hybrid longbow design, that shape was my goal. I need to make heavier draw weight bow to judge its performance comparing to my other bows, but it seems as good performer for 28lbs bow, all in all i think PVC have great potential as bow backing.

Yes! Mulberry is really good bow wood for bows, its commonly used as core wood for Asiatic composite bows

What's the arrow speed?
@Helmbowman5 ай бұрын
Dont have chrono, but its slow because its 17gpp arrows, need to make lighter arrows for that bow
