I have had the full size in 40 S&W now for about two years and have run 2,000 + rounds through her without a single stoppage, using all types of ammo including lots of hand loads. I replaced the decocker levers with the stealth levers and converted to decock only. Changed the stock hammer spring with the Langdon #12 lb silicone and dropped in the Langdon competition trigger group. D/A pull is very smooth, crisp and clean. Talon grip tape keeps it glued in my hand with the snappier 40 cal. It really didn't need the new trigger group as it made very little difference. the stock trigger is really smooth straight out of the box and wouldn't spend the money again. The most accurate and reliable pistol I own. ( Sorry Glock fan boys, but yes, more reliable than my 17 or 19.) Absolutely love this pistol. I got it brand new at a deal that I couldn't pass up, $385.01 including shipping to my FFL, and was the only reason that I bought it. Lets face it, it's an odd looking pistol but fell in love with her at our first dance. This is the ugly duckling that could, and does flawlessly.

Jeez! I'm blown away! Now I know it's the Langdon tactical model, but wow!!! That thing LITERALLY had a lower fail rate than the Cz P01!!! The Cz p01 had 7 failures out of 15,000 rounds. This only had 12 failures out of 50,000 rounds! What a FANTASTIC pistol. Ernest Langdon really is the master, I'm speechless!!!

Great Video. Those are some impressive results. Guns is durable, no doubt. I own the PX4 compact in 9mm and after a few modifications such as Talon grips and Wilson combat hammer springs, it has turned into my favorite compact carry gun. So accurate and great control. Now, Im seriously considering getting a PX4 compact 40.

I've avoided even researching the PX4 pistols for the longest time because of how "homely" they looked. But after stumbling across a number of Langdon videos, watching a lot of PX4 reviews and finally holding one recently I've done a 180 on my book cover judgement. My local range does not offer a PX4 to try out so that's a bummer. None the less, I'm still saving my $ for a Beretta 92x, but I'm seriously considering a full size PX4 Storm instead and spending that difference on LTT upgrades.

Great wrap up! I am really wanting to get some time with a PX4 Compact and see how it compares to my P07. The P07 trigger out of the box was not so good. It has smoothed out some with help from CGW parts. I had to deal with two dead front night sights when new. I really like how Beretta has factory oem upgrade parts. The one thing with the PX4 I know I do not like is the lack of grip texture. Talon grips can resolve that though. I am starting to see that even though CZ handguns are great and work great, Beretta just has a little better quality.

I wonder how much not clean and using quality lube contributed to the cam block failure at 44k. The 50k test would have been a great opportunity to see how a high degree of careful maintenance and lubrication upkeep make a gun keep on its feet and running vs 2k gaps in care.
@ernestlangdon3075
@ernestlangdon3075 Жыл бұрын
You make a good point, but I honestly don't think the cleaning and lubrication added to the breakage. I would say that the shooting schedule's intensity likely added to the issues. 50,000 rounds in one year is a ton of shooting. Some of those days were 600 or 700 rounds in just a few hours. That creates some huge heat cycles that the gun goes through, and I doubt any normal shooter would ever put those heat cycles on a personal handgun.

@LangdonTactical

It would depend on the environment you are carrying the gun. East Coast, no sand, protected and concealed, once a month should be fine. Southwest, sand blowing, unconcealed, once a month is likely not enough. Regardless of the gun, if you are trusting your life to it, clean and oiled is your friend.

Almost all of my guns are G Model Guns. Meaning they are de-cock only levers and spring back to the fire position after decocking. I have no issues operating the safety, but I also normally keep the F model guns in the off safe position when in the holster and just use the lever like a de-cocker. All my PX4s are G Model guns.

@@LangdonTactical, thanks a lot for the reply. I use Glock so I don't have a manual safety at hand, but I guess I would use it if I had it, just to add an extra layer of safety. I use to say that of there is a feasible manual safety you use if (activate before holstering, deactivate after drawing). It's just to avoid involuntary discharges in case of a finger does what it shouldn't. What do you think? Is it feasible with the PX4?

I also just posted this question to your 25,000 round update on the PX4 full size torture test. Beretta recommends not carrying or firing this pistol from the "half (quarter) cock" position. However, both my HK USPc and Sig P226 are typically carried and fired from their "half cock" decocked position. Is there a functional difference that makes the Beretta not suitable for carrying in or firing from the "half cock".

I have had the full size for about 8 years and they are great guns. The SC is new to me about 3 months ago so my experience with it is limited. Of course it does not have the rotating barrel design like the full size and compacts do. It does feel solid and well made but does feel "different" than the other models. I'm sure because of the different function of the barrel. Definitely try out the SC if you get a chance. I like mine. Sorry I can't help more than that.

@@LangdonTactical Do you see that is a better option than a Beretta 92X Compact or Beretta 92LTT Compact? I have carried a full size Wilson combat 1996A2 since 1999 when I went to school down in Texas. But now that I'm suffering from AGE, I've gotten interested in a red dot sight on top of my pistol. In doing so I discovered the LTT RDO and cannot say enough how impressed I am with that pistol. Will there be a PX4 Compact Carry with an eloquent red dot mounting solution soon?

@@jdblackwell2873 I prefer the LTT Compact because of all the additional features that come with it as a package. Yes, we will have a new mounting solution for the PX4 very soon as well.

The ammo??

No real reason just did not have any on hand. I tried to stick to the major brands for duty ammo. larger quantities to buy at a reasonable price. Also, ammo was just free stuff I got along the way. Some of it was calculated and some were just random. It was not about the ammo, it was about the gun.

beretta website says 150,000 rounds no issues. BS....

Yeah, that did not happen. I think they had a counter on there based on what I was doing that year, and they never turned it off. I will reach out to them and shut it down. I do still shoot that gun, but it is only at about 64K right now.

Hey, where did you see that on the Beretta website?

WOW, you just waisted $12,000 in 9mm ammo. How dumb was that?

It was more than $12,000, but it was not a waste. Good thing this happened several years ago when ammo was much cheaper. I got a lot of good training and data for that 50,000 rounds.

That notoriously weak Beretta locking block. I carry a Px4 Compact every day and bet my life on it so it’s disappointing to hear that you had a parts breakage within 50k rounds.
@LangdonTactical
@LangdonTactical 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it did break, at like 44,000 rounds, and the gun kept working with it broken! Most people don't understand how many rounds 50,000 really is. That is a ton of ammo and likely a lifetime of ammo for most people.

Richard, disappointed? How? 44,000 rounds of ammo before a parts fail. And it still functioned broken. That's a testimony to Beretta quality. Most people's guns (combined )will NEVER see that much ammo so therefore I'd never feel concerned about my life carrying a gun with that track record. Hence why I carry a Beretta 92fs. Got 3,600 through the pipe now and hasn't let me down yet. Amazing firearms with top notch reliability.

A breakage athat didn't stop the gun at 44.000 and you are disappointed? Renown handguns start to break slides and frames before that

There are more than a few on the market for this gun. Safariland and US duty gear make duty holsters. JM Custom Kydex and Tier 1 Concealed make concealed carry holsters for it as well. You are not likely to find holsters for it on the shelf at your local gun shop, but you can order them really easily.
