In this video I unbox a new ripper and compare it to 3 other small half slice boats. I am missing the chili but was unable to get it for now. Hopefully soon. A big thanks to Appomattox River Company for selling me the ripper . Enjoy the video!

Awesome comparison man! Really helpful to have someone compare the smaller boats as usually people are comparing mediums and larges

When I was buying a half slice it came down to the rewind and antix for me. Needless to say I got the antix 2.0. My decision ultimately came down to the shorter length and lighter weight of the antix. I paddled a dagger katana before and I just wanted something overall smaller. I’d still like to get a rewind eventually for bigger waters. The antix is also more overall playful which is great for learning 👍🏻

Antix is definitely the most playful!

Loved this video from the perspective of a smaller paddler! I don’t know if you remember but I bought a mixmaster from you last fall and am now in the market for a small half slice. If you do decide to sell the ripper, rewind, or antix I would love to pick up any of those. I’m making a trip to the southeast/NOC area July 9-18 and could pick up a boat if they are for sale by then! Awesome video overall!

Great stuff! Really cool to see all those boats side-by-side. Couple more shots from down low, looking at boats from front, back, and sides would be nice. For example, it's a little hard to tell how the sterns rockers compare when looking from above. Also, would like to see at least a quick look at the outfitting. Which brings up my biggest question...what's with all the cockpit covers?!? Do you have an issue with mice, birds, or just a little OCD? ;-) I actually have a few covers myself, but I only use them when traveling long distances, especially on dusty gravel roads, and/or when loading other gear into boats while traveling. Keep up the great content, and congrats on breaking 100 subs!

Thanks for the feedback . Always trying to improve. Dude I hate spiders so yea all my boats have covers. My garage likes to attract black widows so I try to be careful. I appreciate the views

@@DownstreamV that makes sense! Nothing like wondering if that’s a black widow crawling around on your leg. You assume it’s just the Jackson ropes, then realize…you’re not paddling a Jackson!! 🕷 😱

They should be about what they say. I am sure they have to do some sort of quality control. Jackson is definitely the lightest. Goat and ripper are the heaviest.

Thoughts for someone (same height weight category) looking to branch out from their Z3? I could definitely expand my skill set and, but pretty happy on my local class 3 run. Not looking to replace the Z3, I'll still use it for bigger stuff but want to something a little bit more sporty (grow into?). Any suggestions?
@DownstreamV
@DownstreamV Жыл бұрын
Honestly anything is more sporty than a z3. It is by far the most beginner boat out there. My advice get a ripper 2 or a nova/super nova as a second boat. You need to start practicing down river playboating or playboating in general to expand your skill set.

@@DownstreamV Thanks! Seems like the Zet Chili would require some skill building, but might be bit too punishing?
@DownstreamV
@DownstreamV Жыл бұрын
@@illerstothek I would not go from a zen3 to a chili. It is also very hard to stern squirt. Ripper 2, rewind, or some type of full slice in my opinion.

Four half-slices. Who owns four boats that do the same job? I know I live on a different continent but you're on a different planet! You must have money to burn. 🔥

I would consider that more of a medium boat. Mostly concentrating on small boats for smaller paddlers. Only reason I really included a GOAT is because I own one. If I can get my hands on one I will review it though. Thanks for watching.

My personal preference at my size (135) for anything strong class 4 or small class 5 and below is small ripper. Class 5 plus goat all day long. Goat is not playful at all but it’s a shit runner with a stern. Rewind is a bit better for creeking with more bow rocker than the ripper and a bit more playful but I like the edges on the ripper better.

Awesome review, would an Antix 2 be ok for a first boat ? Someone is selling because they are having a hard time rolling it . Is it difficult to roll? I want to be able to play , advance in a boat . I’m short , 5’3’’ 145 pounds , can I do a medium? Thanks for your help . Someone is selling an almost new Antix for $750 !! Or do you think I should go with Zen 3 to learn ? Thanks man !
@DownstreamV
@DownstreamV 2 жыл бұрын
@@toddmphoto my personal opinion is to learn in at least a half slice. It teaches you a lot more and you have to control the boat more. A creek boat is like cheating and it is easier but won’t let you learn the fundamentals. An antix 2 is a great boat and I would highly recommend it. It is stable and runs rivers great for beginners. A medium will float you more and eill be more stable but a small would be more playful.

The GOAT is bigger than the medium Rewind, Ripper and Antix 2.0. Hardly a small boat
@DownstreamV
@DownstreamV 2 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure I mentioned it wasn’t a small boat. I just threw it in the mix to give a little comparison. For a small paddler it’s a great option to upsize to a medium half slice and use it as a creek boat per say. Seating wise the goat Fits smaller and more narrow then any other medium half slice, but yes it is bigger than the others.
