I understand that the alloy of the tips you were wandering about is NiChrome. It's what's used for electric pottery kiln elements, and goes hard-brittle over time, rather than softer as ferrous and copper metals do. It also has higher electrical resistance, thus heats up quicker.

I have the Walnut Hallow single wand burner and my biggest issue is it doesn’t get hot enough nor does the tip stay hot enough to continually burn. I find myself making multiple passes to get the results I like. Definitely interested in that TruART pro burner

You're right, the brass tip kits don't get as hot as the wire tips. They are good intro kits for beginners to test out wood burning. Upgrading to a wire tip will give you more heat, tips and efficiency. I love my TRUArt kit. I use a LOT. :)

I have a burnmaster and use razortip pen. I love it that it is so hot since most my burning is on harder woods. The heat is consistent for sure. Recently I used Basswood and even on lowest setting it's hard to find the sweet spot to do details and nice shading on the softer woods at least that is what I have noticed.

Thanks for this video. I’d like to know what kind of mask I should wear. I just started burning and I only burned a half hour without a mask and now I have a sore throat. Ooooops.

Thank you for your reviews on these burner kits. I started with the kit versions years ago and have went through 3 different versions, my first version was the best, the only problem with it was I'm left handed and the tips would unscrew as I used it. unfortunately I lost it in a move and the other versions didn't seem to get and stay hot enough for me. I was considering each of the wire brands you showed some same models. You helped me make up my final decision after months of reading and research. In your video you mentioned finger guards which I have read about but never really new what they were, thank you. What brand are your finger guards? Any reason why you choose them?
@Pyrocrafters
@Pyrocrafters 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Phil! You’re very welcome for the reviews. I like the JATAI finger guards the best because they seem to work the best. I got my set on Amazon. I’ve tried the silicone finger guards, and they are okay, but don’t last as long as the JATAIs.

I’m trying to decide between Truart & Colwood… planning to do both wood and leather. I like the easy on and off tips on Colwood, and like the holder on the TruArt. I’ll be doing a lot of detail work, hair and portraits. Which do you think would be best for me?
@Pyrocrafters
@Pyrocrafters 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Jill, the Colwood is a higher quality tool and you won’t regret that easy changing of those tips. 🔥 Either tool will burn leather or wood, so can’t go wrong there.

Just started wood burning and found your channel. I am currently using a Walnut Hollow solid point burner with a heat adjuster, but it just doesn’t seem to get hot enough. Do you have recommendations for kits that aren’t so costly (for those of us just starting out and aren’t entirely sure this journey will continue)? Thank you.
@Pyrocrafters
@Pyrocrafters 11 ай бұрын
Unfortunately there’s not a lot of good mid-range kits out there, at least that I’m aware of. I would stay away from no-name brands on Amazon. I hear a lot of complaints. Truart is a great unit and one of the more cost effective burners, because you get a lot with it in the kit.

when you change your tips while working should you turn the power off or does it not matter?

Yes, definitely turn off the power and wait for it to cool. It’s too hot with the power on.

How well does it do on oak wood? The burnmaster or the colwood
@Pyrocrafters
@Pyrocrafters 9 ай бұрын
They are both the same really. Oak is kind of a tricky wood to burn no matter which pen you're using. Oak (red oak) has a lot of moisture and inconsistent grain patterns. That makes it hard to get even lines and shading.

So I know you said you can use your Colwood pen on the Burnmaster but can you use the Burnmaster pen on the Colwood???
@Pyrocrafters
@Pyrocrafters 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, the connection ends are the same. And so is the Optima. They all gave the same wand connections. I use my Colwood wands on my Optima all the time.
@gonironen1855

Hi, I am wondering if you have any insight into whether you can use both pens at the same time? Or I guess what is the benefit of having two connections? I am looking to upgrading to a pro tool and am debating whether I should get the Eagle, or the Hawk - the single pen version. I also noticed that the hawk does not come with any of the ball point and shading tips. Those seem to be some of the most useful tips to me, would you agree?

What's the best option for high speed burning for single pen?
@Pyrocrafters
@Pyrocrafters 2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t say any of them are great for speed. Wood burning in general isn’t a fast craft. Burnmaster and Colwood get the hottest in my opinion.

Can you review tekchic?
@Pyrocrafters

Hey Therese, I’ve heard consistently bad things about Tekchic, so I don’t recommend them. I’ve also heard people say they like them, but I’ve heard so many negative things that I just can’t recommend it. I think they’re are other options in the same range that I know perform well, like Truart.
