Python - Black Ops Multiplayer Weapon Guide

In this episode we're covering the Python.
It's a revolver, unlocked at level 18.
The Colt Python is an American weapon, manufactured by the famed Colt Manufacturing Company and named for a family of nonvenomous snakes.
It was introduced in 1955, and was produced until quite recently, until 1996.
Originally intended to be a large-frame target revolver chambered for .38 Special, the Python would ultimately fire the more powerful .357 Magnum round - but retained its target handgun features.
With precision adjustable sights, smooth trigger, ventilated top rib and solid underlug, the Python is a finely constructed revolver manufactured to a tight tolerance.
The snake theme persists throughout Colt's range, with the larger .44 Magnum Anaconda, and .22 Long Rifle Diamondback sharing a similar design to the Python, in a different chambering.
The Python saw some adoption by law enforcement in the US, but in recent years revolvers have fallen out of favour, with semi-automatic weapons taking their place.
The Python, however, remains a desirable handgun - with attractive aesthetics and its powerful magnum round making for an impressive weapon with a formidable reputation.
The Colt Python fires the .357 Magnum cartridge - a large-load revolver cartridge known for its keen stopping power.
As a revolver, the Python's capacity is limited - with its cylinder holding just 6 rounds.
You trade capacity for damage, however - as the Python's damage per shot is unequalled within the handgun category.
You'll kill in two shots up close, and four at a distance - one shot fewer than any of the semi-automatic pistols.
Rate of fire is as fast as you can pull the trigger, but is capped to a fairly generous 625 rounds per minute.
Given the low capacity, it's probably wise to pace your shots to ensure accuracy.
Recoil is moderate - higher than the other weapons in the Python's class, but it's not a major impedance to accuracy at close range.
Aim time is quick, at just 150 milliseconds - the same as all other handguns.
Reloads are a little different, however - as the Python will reload per-cartridge: the first round will take 1.6 seconds to insert, with each successive round taking another 0.6 seconds.
This means a complete reload will take 4.6 seconds - although this can be altered through use of some of the attachments on offer.
The Python boasts a rather unusual addition in the form of the ACOG scope, granting a magnification advantage and precision crosshair for long-range shooting.
It will also enhance the weapon's 2-hit kill range slightly, although the ACOG remains challenging to use, given the limited capacity and sizeable recoil when firing.
It's certainly an interesting choice - with potential for Hardcore game modes - but it wouldn't be my choice for this weapon.
Snub Nose will shorten the Python's barrel - in real-life this would make for a more concealable weapon, but in-game this attachment will severely reduce the Python's damage, making for a 3-shot kill instead of two.
Recoil becomes practically none-existent, however - meaning that firing rapidly with the Python can be effective, even at a longer range.
The Python is the most powerful handgun available in Black Ops - for those who can place shots accurately and effectively, there is simply nothing better.
Even most primary weapons are incapable of a two-shot kill, so this awesome power in a quick-drawing package can really make the difference when you're caught short at close range.
It also boasts a higher hipfire accuracy than any of its peers - better than any SMG, in fact.
The Python's only major downside is its limited capacity - 6 rounds are easily wasted, and when faced with a lengthy reload you might find yourself very vulnerable.
It's a weapon that demands careful shot placement, then - its unparalleled power is without merit unless your six shots find their mark.
Get close to constrict your enemy's chance of escape - and sink the Python's fangs into your prey.

What I find interesting is that the Python has the Upgraded Iron Sights by default. They had the option during the beta to equip Upgraded Iron Sights onto the Python (which would be the iron sights in-game today), but they decided to remove the attachment altogether for the Python, scrap the old iron sights, and give the Python the Upgraded Iron Sights by default.

James Blackburn well it a hunk of metal and not really they tend to be about as complex as semi autos but they do hold up to being neglected better because when they are just sitting their no springs are pressurized so it would work better after sitting loaded for 20 years than a semi auto and also that is really bad for it because it can make the gun go out of timing meaning the cylinder doesn't line up with the barrel and can destroy your gun

There's another Colt revolver in the Call of Duty games called the Anaconda, known in-game as the .44 Magnum, featured in Modern Warfare 2, 3, Ghosts, and also in MWR as a DLC weapon for multiplayer.

It's actually a very good weapon to use in hardcore. A couple of times I came out top with a snubnose python and slight of hand. But I was lucky. Weaker opponents or something. But if you're a pro, you can make it work habitually.

Sidearm? Not for me. I used the Colt Python in Black Ops as a primary weapon with the Speed Loader attachment. Using Scavenger, Sleight of Hand, and Second Chance perks; I can get more kills per life using the Python than when using an assault rifle. Magnum pistols as primary weapons; Dirty Harry style. Hard to master but very satisfying.

In Black Ops the Devs made the assault rifles kill in 3 shots at medium-long ranges, but gave them similar or identical base fire rates to the SMGs. They outclass the SMGs (and the shotguns) at CLOSE range. They are faster handling than the LMGs, and far more useful than the snipers. They also have a large attachment selection. In short, THEY OUTCLASS EVERYTHING AT EVERY RANGE. Especially the AUG and FAMAS, with their higher rates of fire.

Here's a fun gun fact about the Python, it was manufactured with tolerances that are actually *too* good. If you own a Python and it wears out over time, it's very easy for the timing to be off, not to mention the problem of dirt and grease. If you keep it well-cleaned and in good condition, it'll follow you to the grave, but it's more of a primadonna than a battle implement.

modern day revolvers usually only have performance variety in their barrel length and grip comfort because they all use 357 magnum in a six round cylinder, but does that mean you can't have a favorite model? Colorado State Patrol troopers carried the Colt Python .357 magnum revolver's with the 4 inch barrels that were carried from 1965-1978 and the troopers I talked with that had relatives on the force said the Python was a reliable and nice revolver to carry.

The Colt Python in .357 Magnum was indeed the most coveted revolver for US law enforcement agencies back in the day. But with the Python's premium price, most cops had to settle with the less expensive Colt Trooper instead (also chambered in .357 Magnum). Basically the "poor man's Python".

I could never get into this weapon, it's like if you don't use ACOG it's a pain to aim with it, and if you do use ACOG then you have to single load which is slow as balls. I tried to use it as a long range last resort when you're using dual SMG's but, it's not really any use for that.

The executioner also does not have an infinitive range like the python. It is honestly only alike it because they are both revolvers. It's not effective at all, by the way. It can take more then 6 shots to kill in even a 6 meter range. I only got it told because im aiming for diamond and I got the headshots from hardcore. Seriously before claiming that the only reason they think it sucks is cause they are inexperienced with the gun, you yourself actually have to be.
