At the rear of the consist is 25 WOE class iron ore wagons, which were stored in Forrestfield yard. (Spot the graffiti!)
They are of a batch of WOE wagons, being re-activated for Aurizon's new rail haul contract. For the Gold Valley Wiluna Iron Ore Project.
Another 21 WOE class wagons were also part of the consist of the eastbound Kal Freighter on 24th August. ( These wagons were previously stored at West Merredin yard.)
And were sent to Forrestfield Workshops first up at slow speed, to avoid any issues, with overheating axle boxes. Receiving further attention, for in service traffic duty.
Also, two other batches from West Merredin yard, were dispatched to Aurizon's Esperance Depot for bogie overhauls too!
Gathering up a train length consist for the new rail operation.
The first loaded train is due to start 30 September, hauling iron ore from West Kalgoorlie Yard to Esperance Port.
1.2 million tpa will be hauled to Esperance Port, a distance of 400 kms, from West Kalgoorlie. With 3 return train paths per week service.
The iron ore will be delivered by side tipper road trains from Wiluna, north of Kalgoorlie. To a stockpile transfer yard at the west end of West Kalgoorlie Yard.
Originally, Gold Valley was transporting it's iron ore, in side tipping road trains from. Wiluna, west to Geraldton Port. A road haulage of 720kms.
Though good news for Aurizon and Port of Esperance employees and families.
It brings bad news, for Aurizon and service providers, including the Esperance Port and the town.
As Mineral Resources, will close down It's Yilgarn Iron Ore hub. Where average, 3 iron train fleets per day, rail haul iron ore for export out of Esperance Port.
Shipments will cease, by December this year. 2024.
