Thanks for this q&a! I was always a bit confused about the time line, now it makes much more sense to me. Great that you do not make a big open plan living area. It's so overrated! 😊 And it would take away some of the soul of this house. On the other hand, a big kitchen is always something precious. And finally just another question, maybe for a next q&a: What is Marie doing?

Flat roofs frequently having problem with ongoing leaks - the best professional you can find may be able to help you. Otherwise you can also expect mold and damp problems which will rot drywall. Best wishes for success on your ongoing restoration/renovation.

I would think fixing the garage roof and getting out of mini storages would be a priority and a money saver. I remember when my friends renovated their house they bought a cheap trailer and hooked it up to the house of amenities to live in to save money. That also made it so they didn’t have to rush with the repairs. I think what you guys are doing is fantastic. I love that saying they’re all teachable moments lol One thing I learned and you probably learning is by the best tools for the job now. You will be using them again and again believe me as time goes on. Keep going love the series.

Thank you! We agree on fixing the roof. We haven’t been able to repair it yet, but Hal was able to tarp it and get all his tools out of storage which helped a lot.

Thanks for all your efforts, a beautiful house and grounds. Back in 1983, I bought a California bungalow in Lemon Grove, Ca. in about the same shape. A worthy project and lived there for 20 years. Onward!

One of the challenges we found is when the community was incorporated it was split by two different cities. Half is in one town, half the other. I talked to a local historian who wrote a book on the community. He didn't have anything on our house. Its a mystery.

We kept a few favorite things, and Hal is refinishing a few others. Unfortunately a lot was ruined by rats and mold, but we salvaged what we could. We have a whole house full of our own furniture too, and we’re excited to make this house our own 😊

How cool is that - part of a planned Casino Community with only 38 houses and you have one of the originals still left - that's awesome to be a part of that history, great story. It's nice you found information on who owned the house prior to Marie; I hope you can find the person and get even more history. I wish I had history of my house, it was built in 1945, so it does have some. Sounds like you've done a lot of improvements off camera, no no, you need to share with the group, that's why we're here! I'm glad you'll be keeping the original floor plan, too many go in renovation projects and want the open floor concept. This is a super fun channel with great content, I've been here since the beginning and look forward to all the progress.

We actually considered that! At the time that we found one in our price range, we didn’t yet own the property so we had nowhere to park it. We’re very lucky to have a very reasonable rental down the street that works great for us and our 4 pets right now 😊

Super smart to wait until the floors are done before you move in. Much more expensive with furniture in the house because then the labor is more expensive to move and put back. Don’t ask me how I know 😅
