I've just started getting in to this whole weightlifting thing because of school, and I quickly fell in love with it. I'm so young that it's not safe for me to even max out on lifts. Weight training in school started back in January, on day one of class my weight training teacher at junior high showed us your deadlift as a proof of concept that if, you set your mind to it you can do it. I aspire to be anything similar to what you are. You truly are amazing Mr.Shaw. You serve as an inspiration to me, my class and anyone who weight lifts. Can't wait to see what you do as time goes on. God bless you and your family.

Hey Brian, love the videos and the work you do! Out of curiosity, have you ever considered trying a vegetarian/vegan diet for a day or longer during off-season? I know a lot of people question protein intake and the viability of these diets, especially for intense training. Watching your videos after going vegetarian myself and learning about you and your family makes me hope the best for your long term health (30-50 years from now). I wish the best for you, keep crushing!

this is a great video brian. i do enjoy following different athletes on KZbin, CT, Elliott Hulse, Dana, and of course yours. i relate to your passion and use your info. i have gotten my wife into lifting, and i would one day love to compete in strong man. even if it's just a local competition. i am not naturally a strong dude. not very big. my training right now is focusing on the 4 main lifts, bench, overhead, squat and deadlift. do you have any advise on a good approach to becoming closer to the strong man scene? thanks man, i love your videos.

Brian I have to say I'm a fan of what you have accomplished and look forward to seeing you set more records. I am the same height as you but about 100lbs lighter. I was wondering if you could tell me what you did to get your arm size? As you know being tall makes it difficult and I was hoping you could tell me what worked best for you. I am 40 and a beat up vet but i'll give it everything I got so I can stay healthy for my 2 grand-kids. Also Congratulations on your son! Fatherhood has been a blessing to me and I hope that it is for you as well.

@DrParmesan

Yes! Good question. I hope he answers.
@JaayyMan
@JaayyMan 8 жыл бұрын
Well creatine is a no brainer. It makes you slightly bloated with water weight, but increases atp levels which is a benefit for sure. Having extra atp means more muscle endurance which=more reps and less fatigue. So for a powerlifter there's no excuse not to use it. but for a bodybuilder wanting to look cut then you might wanna cut off creatine a couple weeks before your competition. or just not use it at all.

Although fitness or strength training is not really a hobby of mine I find it fascinating to hear from and watch you guys do what you do. I don't see it as just an extreme lifestyle and career choice but much more as an example of what insane feats the human body is capable of if you focus on maximizing any aspect of it, in your case strength. Obviously all strongmen have to work hard to be in the shape they are and to be able to do what you do but how much do you think is predisposition aka the way you're built and how much mass your body can build or other factors like that? Would you say that anyone could be a strongman or have you ever heard of someone trying to become one but just not reaching the level of strength although he put in the work? Also since I'm type 1 diabetic I'm interested to know if you know any strongman who has some sort of chronical illness, concerning metabolism or anything else. I'm not trying to become a strongman but I'd be interested if people with "handicaps" like that exist in the scene.

Hi Brian, I am a big fan of you and the strongman sport because of your dominance and raw power you bring to the game. Now all people speak about the competition between you and Big Z obviously because of last 7 titles being split between you two. But how do you see the competition with the other giant Thor? He looks to be getting stronger and stronger and a big potential taking into consideration his young age in the sport!

My one criticism with strongman competitions is that all the events are basically variations of deadlift range of motion, and then some military presses. Where are the Pull Up style events? Strongman should encompasses a wider range of motions than just deadlift and press.

@un852
@un852 7 жыл бұрын
perhaps 110 kg. frankly a pull up event might build the sport, since it would tend to favor smaller guys. they could use a big lat pull machine also. the events also have no bench.

pulling an airplane and loading 500 pound stones is more impressive than a fucking pull up.
@un852
@un852 7 жыл бұрын
this reminded me that I thought they should have some fireworks to convey success. It more exciting that way. The bench and pull up are simply ranges of motion that I think should be incorporated into the program. Pull ups are very significant in military, because they are always training to climb walls.

Speaking of powerlifting, do you ever incorporate sumo deadlift and bench in your training? If so, how (main movement, accessory, etc.)?
@Florian44790
@Florian44790 8 жыл бұрын
as far as i remember he stated in one video that it wouldn't really make sense to train sumo since he would never be able to actually do that in a competition. don't know about bench but i would assume that he tries to train that too since he needs a strong chest for many competitions.
