Thank you VERY much for this video. I began my first IT job as a clinical analyst January 9th after working as a senior pharmacy tech for 15 years. I was let go on may 8th & their reason was I did not meet all of my requirements on my training plan. I have filed over 30 applications & even interviewed with a company I thought I secured for sure, but they quickly changed their tune after speaking to the company I worked for. I have been depressed greatly because I felt that I may have been blacklisted. I've been debating with myself whether I should go back to pharmacy until I can find another job, but hesitated because it was for less money. I'm happy I came across your video because I know what I have to do now. I will also call recruiters as you suggested. 👍🏾

That's what I did. I worked summer help right after graduating high school at my dad's work back in 2003 and 2004, while I worked part time in the local hospital kitchen. Kept working at the hospital (including a housekeeping role) until I got to where I am now - IT. Now, I just gotta get myself out of this IT rut that I'm in and keep propelling myself higher.

Finding a job is not that simple, I get blown off by the temp agencies, employer's in private sector and just about anywhere I have applied. It don't matter if its a gas station, restaurant, store or any other advertised job. I even had my resume written by an expert to pass through the ATS software. The past fifteen months I worked at McDonalds and I still get turned down everywhere. Nepotism is the biggest problem with the job market, unless you are in someone's pocket, you don't get the job. Where I live, employers are more concerned with drug testing, credit reports, and background checks than finding quality employees. Employers have also had issue with my education because nearly all applicants have never been to school and it intimidates the hiring manager.
@learnitfromwilliam
@learnitfromwilliam 7 жыл бұрын
I respect your points on this but there's still no excuse especially in America. Obviously no system is perfect and the job market is a beast and cut throat but that doesn't mean you stop looking. You proved my point of the video...you're working at McD's and at least earning a paycheck. Some ppl rather sit on their ass at home and collect welfare or unemployment. At least you have the courage and put your pride aside and are working. Respect!

_Where I live, employers are more concerned with drug testing, credit reports, and background checks than finding quality employees._ By doing drug testing and background checks they are trying to find better employees. I have been around numerous workers who would fail a drug test in a heartbeat if the facility decide right then and there to conduct a piss test. Back grounds of some of these people includes petty theft, larceny, drug possession. It's a shit hole out there. I was told by a senior worker that she knew a manager in another faculty who was having trouble finding good workers. People without any kind of drug dependence and criminal past. It was almost impossible. I was practically a saint. Anyway, keep that in mind. Be proud that you are clean and try to get some good advice. Don't give up and become like those lost souls i just described. We sometimes can be pretty harsh to our own selves.

"Employers have also had issue with my education because nearly all applicants have never been to school and it intimidates the hiring manager." I just wanted to comment that I had this done to me several years ago too in another country. In fact it happened right after I took an interview and once it was complete they clearly said I didnt get the job because I'm over qualified.

I totally agree. Especially with the networking topic. I was discussing the networking topic with the other guys in the IT department last week. Almost every position that I've ever held in the industry has been obtained with the help of people that I know. The more people that know you and know the level of work that you can do, the better your career will be.

Great advice bro. Most people don't realize that unemployment and/or welfare is a safety net. It was NEVER meant to be a way of life. The flip side is that sometimes people do need that safety net and there is no shame in that. However I do agree that while on unemployment or welfare people MUST be moving toward getting back into the workforce. The sad truth is that most of the jobs you mention, fast food, retail, etc. pay less than unemployment and welfare. That needs to be remedied. It should NEVER be better to get a hand out than to work. The system is broken in that respect. I would add that if a person is in the tech field, whether networking, web design, programing, or whatever, there is ample opportunity to be an 'entrepreneur' via freelance sites, starting their own site, or doing work for an online business. Bottom line I think you're right overall. If we sit around and wait for something to happen, it won't. Thanks again for all you do Mister William. God bless.

it is hard to get a job because people expect you to have so much experience or you are over qualified or under qualified i wish job hunting these days was like it how it was back then where you get hired based on your skills not based on how much experience you have that is why the economy and job market are doing bad because companies expect too much out of you
@vio2k5

I just wanted to ask considering your views on the job market and that no one should have trouble finding a job, what about the people who have severe confidence issues who barely even speak to others? The reason I ask is because I went to high school with a kid like that back in mid 90's and I'm pretty sure he wasnt bullied to end up like that, its just that I dont think his the only one like that which is why I ask. Also to add on top of what you said in the video getting a temp job to tide you over till you get a job you're looking to do is all well and good but even if that happens or doesn't try not to remain stagnant and keep up to date on your computer skills before they get rusty. For those of you with a focus on IT security, there are websites online that companies sign up to and offer payment for identifying holes in their security through pentesting so you can still make some extra money even without a job.

networking is the most important reason why you should get out and do something. im a college student with no job. however, my instructor for my LAN course also happens to be senior network administrator and i asked him if i can intern/volunteer for him at his workplace. he responded with a resounding "hell yeah, i have a lot of work for you". lol... and just prior to that, i was searching for internship work for a help desk position online at 'home'. i know internship will not pay the bills, but in the long run it will be extremely beneficial. just like he said, you gotta get 'out' there and you gotta start from the bottom. awesome advice.

It's funny when you talk about selling cars and never sold anything in your life. There was a time in my life years ago back in the 1980's I needed a job and started selling cemetery plots. That is really hard to do no matter how good you are. People don't think about dying. So just a little story for folks we all can do something.

I think in the modern day 2019 its very different to how things were even as recently as 5 years ago......theres very few people with the right work ethic that sit at home in self pity. Ive heard other speakers/tutors/amateur journos say this before and its just wrong. Ive had cv 's reviewed by HR experts ive networked inc linkedin Ive put together tailored presentations to take to interviews to stand out Ive tailered my applications Ive tried to get jobs via friends at their companies, applied to online adverts checked jobs boards took myself onto employability skills courses applied direct on company websites and this is for what I was trained in and jobs I wasnt trained in like basic driving jobs with low pay. People do not respond. Thats the killer. Ive tried playing it cool ive tried being persistent.....still no joy. Ive had interview skills anaysis and researched on every company I have interviewed with. You could apply for a job picking shitstains off the rim of a toilet and youll not get any feedback or an interview...... The jobs market is broken. Far too many people after too few jobs......ive seen the same jobs re advertised over snd over for like 6 months still unfilled. People dont feel entitled or hard dine by.....it is what it is.....the way firms recruit these days is nothing short of shambolic. I think the only people that benefit are those in HR dragging things out for months until somebody finally makes a decision.....

I live out here in CA. Started a cleaning business, the non english speaking people brought down those wages so they got the jobs. That business closed. I won't go into the economy out here, just want to say I was not born or raised here. I'm now looking outside of the state of CA. for a job.
@learnitfromwilliam
@learnitfromwilliam 7 жыл бұрын
Hello Barbara. I don't agree 100% with your analysis. There are plenty of cleaning businesses all over the country that are successful. We can't blame certain groups for taking jobs or lowering wages. Having said that, you're in a state with some of the highest costs of living so it makes it very difficult to lead a prosperous life there. Wish you lots of success in whichever path you choose. First of all Great Motivational Video (Thumbs Up), I'm currently looking for a new job whilst employed. My current job is making me depressed and anxious, it's not so much the work that's the problem but there are a few workplace bullies that form their own clique and seem intent on alienating me and there also seems to be a lot of double standards going on. I'm not one for grassing to higher management, as I want to avoid conflict and reprisals. I want to find another job before resigning but sometimes the anxiety gets so bad that I'm thinking of quitting my job regardless of having another job line up or not. I'd appreciate any advice you could offer me
@learnitfromwilliam
@learnitfromwilliam 5 жыл бұрын
DO NOT quit unless you have a pile of cash laying around that will take you until your next job. I get that your situation sucks, but think about how it could be even worse when you don’t have any income and can’t find work. That’s a terrible place to be. Talk about desperation and anxiety at all time highs. Don’t do that to yourself. Work through the bullshit at your current place until you find another gig. Wish you success.

Hello Chris. You're not too old. In fact, I have a video just on that topic. You just have to start. And with that, start with the basics of certifications which would be the Comptia certs. You can study for those on your own using free and paid materials. And then just move up from there. If you have a facebook account, you should join the FB group I run and ask questions to other members about this as well, there's some good conversations in there. Hello, I have a IT job, my job title is Senior LAN support Specialist/Team Leader and I have been at this company for 15yrs. My question is if I want to relocate, at my age group, lets say 50ish...and Female...what are my chances of getting a job in the IT field? The reason you can’t get a job is because you put too much extra on your Resume ! Just put maximum 2 last experiences, if you have to lie, put that these two last experiences lasted maximum 2 years each, and don’t put any qualifications that have nothing to do with the job you are applying (provided that in nowadays economy you have to take everything). I agree it is difficult to find a job in IT ! HR have unrealistic expectations ! Why ? Because IT is the most democratised and competitive sector ! Don’t go to work in IT ! We have tk go there where really knowledge is not accessible and where nobody wants to go ! (fishermans for example ! They make up to 10thousand dollars ! It’s a hard work, but imagine the freedom you have being out there in the wilde vs being in a cubicle and just doing some black box stupid testing of a use case for a software that you don’t even know the purpose of it’s existence ...) The job market is fucked up ! Me too I went tk school for QA and I just gave up on finding a job in QA and by the way it’s boring. Doing some python coding for business analytics now but I am about to quit...I just want to get enough dough to start my own business. No matter what, selling ice cream on streets but at least nobody and nothing will ever pollute my life, especially the humiliating experience of finding a JOB !
