Doug's statement that forgiveness and trust are not the same thing is absolutely essential to teach to all believers in any church.

Doug's analogy of the wound and what follows was superb and profound. That said, I think we may still have a differing opinion on Forgiveness. One can turn an offense and the pain that came from it over to God without releasing the debt that is owed when the person with the debt refuses to ask for the debt to be forgiven. Which brings me to my last point. I didn't catch the last guy's name. I know Doug and Toby but not him. While I don't disagree with what he said, I would say he opened the door and may have even led to a false belief/teaching that the parable is teaching we should always "just forgive". But that is NOT what it teaches nor is it consistent with the parallel passage in Luke. Matt. 18:35 must be seen in the full context that Jesus gave in Luke 17:4. Which is why Toby's "even if they haven't asked for it" is false. Toby's analogy fails because one does NOT have to muddy up the windshield with bitterness and resentment just because they've been offended/hurt/sinned against in some way. One simply only need to OBEY other Scriptures such as Eph. 4:31.

A point of the first question, imagine you trying to actually go through with the dinner. What kind of example are you subconsciously setting for those in your home if you are not in harmony on an internal level with your spouse? I think about that and reflect on times when I have caused others to stumble because of the way I treated my husband in front of others.
