Jake, great advise to that young man! I’m a retired Army Infantry Sergeant Major, I spent 23 years in before I retired in 2006. I just have two points to add, seek assignment to a Light Infantry or Ranger Unit to “sharpen your teeth” and master land navigation. Jake, you were spot on with the rucking and taking care of your feet. You are going to suffer, it’s the Infantry way, just don’t suffer any more than you have to by not being prepared. Remember we conduct a majority of our operations at night and in all types of weather conditions from extreme heat to bitter cold.

if your goal is ranger bat or sf then do not sign a regular infantry contract, get opt 40 or 18x, for the 18xrays they specifically get to go to a course before selection that teaches land nav, rucking, running, etc. everything you need to succeed in selection. FNG academy made a video about your current situation and he was enlisted then went to selection and he said that even though he was prior service the 18xrays knew more than him and were in better shape because you train two a days at the prep course.

BOOM! He did it and it's in process...it's on! I think this is good advice to better prepare you to enter the SF pipeline. It's a journey not a sprint! The average age for SF candidates is around 30-34yrs old which means they have had enough time in the Army to be squared away and are ready to get after it.
@jakezweig3 жыл бұрын
Still has to get in
@Cody2nd3 жыл бұрын
Plenty of 21 year olds going through and passing straight out of boot camp....just depends on how bad you want it. You have time to continue to prep your self along the way....as long as you don’t screw up, the 18x contract guarantees you a chance, And the army’s made some changes that really helps prep SF candidates now.....enlisted dudes have a hard time switching to that contract or getting into SF selections....that’s why you see a lot of 30 year olds that’s been in the army that are just now going through....because it took them that long to get a spot....the 18X contract guarantees you that spot as long as you don’t screw it up and you will be going through school with dudes who’ve been trying to get a spot for years, and they’re already way ahead of you in they’re army career.....to be able to jump ahead and get in like that is a no brainer, just jump in and go you either have it or you don’t, you’ll get in shape along the way....Olympic level athletes that come in already in insane shape that have been studs there whole life drop out like flys, it’s not about your shape, the army will put you in shape and you will have plenty of time to get in much better shape while your in before you go....it’s purely grit and determination, you will see some of the scrawniest gnarliest dudes crushing SF training everywhere purely because they have that extra grit and scrappiness to them. You either got it or you don’t. You could prep for years and be in amazing shape and still drop out or get kicked simply because you can’t beat the mental game or the grittiness....they don’t pick the best strongest fastest guys they pick the RIGHT guys. Jump in and get an 18x contract and just do it, go. Most people regret not getting the 18x contract, if your wanting to go that route just get it, unless you have something holding you back from getting the contract and you HAVE to drop a packet....you should be getting that contract, it gives you plenty of time to mold your self into what you need to be and the army’s getting even better at prepping candidates.....listen, pay attention and don’t cut corners and don’t quit and you will be a green beret if that’s what you wanna be and your right for it....not everyone is no matter how much prep or training or time they spend and that’s just the truth.....The success rate is just as high for dudes going out of boot camp over guys that have been in for years....the older guys even have a harder time mixing with the young guys, and a lot of them don’t have the patience for it an end up doing something stupid that gets them dropped or a lot of them end up getting pink slipped multiple times and dropped at the end because some of them have a problem mixing in with the younger dudes and it causes team problems and leadership problems. Not for all, but some can’t get past that and it causes them to fail out.

Easiest Army way to get in spec ops Infantry 11B 1.basic training 2. AIT 3. Airborne school- 3 weeks 5 jumps easy 4. RASP- 6 weeks. Your gonna run fast maybe 630 7min miles for up to 5 miles. Rucking you make it to Ranger batt 30 miles less than 12 hours is the standard. Get use to it. 5. Battalion shut your mouth. Learn fast. Run hard. Be tough. They do not wait on the weak. Train for a year. 6. Grad Ranger school. Started 190 lbs. Finished 70 days later at 140 lbs. You figure it out. It is brutal. Take it one day at a time. They can't kill you. So fuck it. Eat it up. Youd stuck there anyway. Master land navigation! Get through it. I know people who spent a year getting their tab. Without it your Ranger batt career is over. 7. Now your a leader. Act like it. From here you can go to sfas, delta selection or stay in battalion. The army will cater to you. THE TAB IS THE TICKET TO START YOUR SPEC OPS CAREER. I like this guy or I wouldn't of wrote all this bullshit. Go get it boy! 💯👊💪

i’m confused as to why you dissuade individuals in 18x when special forces selection prep is six weeks of incredible training that has been said to give candidates huge advantages over regular enlisted. In fact 18x candidates perform better than enlisted physically on average. Where this same prep teaches in depth knowledge on foot care, land nav, etc. I’ve talked with successful 18xs, now Green Berets who claim it’s the best course. plus you get automatic AIT. Basic-Osut-Ait-Selection Prep-Selection So long as he doesn’t quit, he can go back if he’s a non-select after 6-12 months. I was told that some units will actually sabotage candidates and prevent them from getting to the shape they need to be in in order to be successful by piling extra work loads onto their soldiers. Usually over feelings of betrayal or envy that the soldier is dropping a packet. I’m also told a huge benefit of 18x is that you won’t bring bad habits formed in big army as green berets operate entirely different and look for specific traits. I also know that Green Berets have to think unconventionally by nature and in most situations would suffer in Big Army. Also, if he becomes an Officer after he goes to the Q course, he’ll have to go to the Q course again. So if the officer route is recommended, he shouldn’t go into selection until he’s already an officer. now that’s my reasoning for thinking the 18 X is a great option, what would you say in response to those reasonings? You automatically become an E2 when you go 18 X as well.
