About Brian's chair and not having a weight loss goal: You've learned two things way early in your life that are indispensable. 1. Comfort is key. 2. Life is not a race. Merry Christmas Krocks, you rock!

For those who don't love salad: In the winter especially, I'm not a huge salad fan. Instead I roast veggies, no oil or salt, on parchment paper. My favorite is frozen Brussels sprouts, chopped and mixed with chopped Butternut squash and Pink Lady apples , about 45 minutes at 420F in the oven. Veggie soup is another great option instead of salad.

I noticed that Garam Masala, Chili and Turmeric are favourite ingredients. Have you ever thought of making a dal? It is so easy, once you get the recipe right, you can keep the base as a sauce and just add your veggies to it.... and it's a lovely, flavour-filled, winter warmer.

I think Jessica was right when she started to call loose skin a badge of honor. When I start to feel like my fat decade didn't really happen and I didn't really lose 40 lbs in 6 months, I look in the mirror and raise my shirt to look at my sagging belly. It actually makes me proud, because it means that I really, truly did lose the weight, drop my cholesterol, and regain control of my life.

Yes to more instant pot recipes!! I love your soup recipes and always try to modify them for my instant pot (I have the bigger instant pot, so it works for me.) Also, it weirds me out that people keep asking you about kids. That is such a private thing to ask (and for those suffering from infertility, very sensitive.) Thank you for sharing that part of your lives with us, but don't ever feel that you have to.

I’ve recently this year stopped eating meat, sweets, and stopped with the diet root beer and I no longer diet or want to anymore. I got down to 152-153 this summer after losing 20lbs and I finally put the scale up. I’m really happy with how I look and feel, but I’m no longer enjoying food anymore. I eat to just eat because I know I need to. Maybe it’s because I’m starting peri menopause and my body is going through so many changes idk. Anyone struggling with food cravings for me I had to cut cold turkey on sweets that was my food addiction and once I made my mind up I just stopped eating it. I have loose skin on my stomach from having children and I’m finally as of this year ok with it. I love my body now and I feel great for once in my life. Thank you guys so much for making your channel and just being you!!!💜 Hope you 2 have a Merry Christmas 🎄🎁

I got tired of the salad thing. My best dressing has been a freshly squeezed orange with the orange meat cut up and put into the salad. It was good but , one day, I just got tired of cutting it all up and chewing it all up, and as I was making my one dish meal, I just dumped the salad into the meal, and it was wonderful. From then on (usually) I included everything I was putting in salad, into the meal. Makes it very interesting. Love you guys and I'm so happy for your success. Inspiring.

Hehe, and yes today I put my greens into my nuked veggies! Yum. I also add greens to my bowls of hot soup. Yesterday I made a huge batch of soup in my instant pot with greens, cilantro, veggies, and navy beans. Yum! All sorts of ways to get your greens and salad veggies.

My husband is still Omni and refuses to give up meat (we're from TX where we bbq almost every weekend). Our kids and I went vegan/ vegetarian 2 years ago and I told my husband when we transitioned that I would no longer buy or prepare meat for him and that he would have to make it for himself if he wants it.. It was hard at first bc cooking for him has always been one of the ways I express my love (and when he's away for work he would always tell me how much he missed my cooking). But it's actually been a positive thing too bc he consumes much less meat now that I am not cooking it. He sometimes won't feel like cooking or will forget to buy it so he will eat our vegan foods and maybe add cheese.. there's only a couple things he won't eat which are tofu and most fake meats bc he only wants the real thing lol. It sucks that he doesn't ask me to cook anymore but it has also got him cooking more (besides just meat).. he loves making homemade pizza dough and cinnamon rolls from scratch and will make them vegan so we can all eat them. He bought his own fridge for his meat/dairy items and takes up most of the space in our deep freezer. I am sure he was disappointed in our lifestyle change at first bc of all the unhealthy Mexican food and breakfasts I used to make him but he doesn't judge us and we are all much healthier bc of it.. I just make veganized versions of our favorite dishes and we'r east lots of oatmeal and smoothies. :)

I’ve given birth to 4 boys, reversed type 2 diabetes, had a hysterectomy, survived 10 years of abuse and 2 car accidents. A saggy tummy is just a “meh, so what?” Type of thing. I’ve got stretch marks, a messy belly, turkey arms but I’m healthy and happy! I feel proud of my quirky body, and everyone should feel proud of who they are! Apparently intermiitent dry fasting helps a lot with loose skin. You don't have to straight away do a full day of dry fasting, you can just start with intermittent dry fasting for 16 hours overnight or something. Check out snake diet on you tube. I applaud both of you for your courage, and the success that came with your willingness to change over to a WFPB. I have been struggling to do this without my husband's support, and comments from him, like "is THAT what you're eating", or "I'm going to enjoy my burger and fries", etc. I know he doesn't do it to be hurtful. But switching over to WFPB, I really needed a support buddy. I appreciate that he no longer tries to get me to not eat this way. Watching KZbinrs that have switched over really gives me motivation to keep going. I recently stumbled across Plantiful Kiki, and for whatever reason - what I'd been doing, along with trying her way of doing it, I had a light bulb moment. I realized I needed to reduce or eliminate nuts, avocados and breads. My weight loss had stalled. She also pointed out something Chef AJ recommended, but I was reluctant to do at first. And that was to eat steamed veggies before breakfast, and for lunch and dinner to just portion my plate with 1/2 non-starchy veggies and the other half with potatoes of choice. So I tried that. And I could not believe the results. The weight just started melting off. It was freaking unreal. I'm so happy all of you have the courage to bare your lives in front on all of us - putting yourself out there for comments, criticism, praise, what have you. TEN THUMBS UP TO YOU BOTH. (Uh, you get the picture.) Love you guys!!!!!!

Good to hear the details on the weight loss. I remember writing here when I was starting the potato famine and at other various points along the way. My wife and I are doing it together and four and a half months in and she is technically underweight and I am over halfway to goal. I know exactly what you mean about the floundering around a weight. I have been dancing around a certain weight since I had to go on to a business trip to Japan three or four weeks ago and I am finally back down to it(and above it and back down and back up) again and wanting to have the time to really focus on it again. But there are ancillary factors that affect weight. In Japan I was as compliant as possible, but made concessions for dressing, which I couldn't make on my own. I also ate a little more in the way of nuts than I usually do. That and my system just gets backed up when I travel to Japan. But hey--four pounds over a couple weeks of travel and it came off quickly when I came back. I can't get used to the whole bony butt thing, though. It is alarming, but I also think it helps me fix my posture. The idea is that I didn't know how to sit up straight, but having a bony butt now makes me find better posture. Plane rides still no bueno. Working on facial hair to cover up some of the gauntness that I see in my face after constantly running into people I haven't seen for four months and having them ask if there is anything wrong or asking my wife in private if I am sick. All that and I still have a good 35 pounds to initial goal weight. Now comes the first trip back to where I grew up. Haven't seen anyone since Christmas and it will probably be a jarring reunion for many. My One Year Ago feature in iPhone photos is a helluva way to get your before and after shots :) Thanks for all the videos...

I make a very simple cream cheese like block out of tofu. Just drain a block of firm tofu (cut in half horizontally and separated) in a colander for about a day, then cover completely with a thin layer of miso (prevents mold forming), then put in a glass container in your fridge for 1 week or so and you have tofu cheese! I eat it with whole grain flat breads I make from scratch (50/50 soaked and blended whole grains/whole wheat flour)

Brian, I’ve got a recipe challenge for you. Your chili is good, but I’m craving a broth based soup. I’m starting to experiment with a vegan pho kind of thing. I’ve never actually had pho, but it looks good. I’ve been sautéing mushrooms and garlic, add a splash of liquid aminos, set aside. Boil a serving of pho noodles, drain, return to pot. Add vegetable broth, add mushroom/garlic/aminos mixture, stir, and heat. Serve in soup bowl with chopped unsalted peanuts on top (the unsalted dry roasted ones I got to make Jessica’s pb with!). This is pretty tasty but (1) this is a little high in sodium for me, and (2) I’d like an additional broth based soup in the rotation... Ideas?

Wow! You guys look great! Have a great New Year!! 😀 FYI, I have lost 26lbs in 8 weeks from being strict and following Dr Esselstyn's diet. The key for me is that I exercise religiously and intentionally have about 800kcal deficit/day. I will adjust once I reach my target. For me, exercise (Cardio) is key to burning visceral fat. Some thoughts for you (take it whichever way you wish): As far as chocolate is concerned, a couple of pieces of 80%+ is good for your heart due to the magnesium. Nibble corners off the pieces. It lasts a lot longer and you still get the taste/texture. For cheese, I use nutritional yeast blended with seeds. Take some seeds, grind them in a spice grinder and add 1:1 nutritional yeast. Use it like parmesan on a vegan pasta.

I like that you have the Amazon links page...and looking on there answered my question about how you don't ruin a plastic-looking bowl to cut greens.

A hint for managing vacation, holiday, birthday eating...research has shown that folks who incorporate approximately 5 "off-eating events" per month into their long term habits are most successful in maintaining a healthy weight (post weight loss). No treats ever leads to feelings of deprivation; no plan for treats can lead to slips and binging. Make sense I guess...all things in moderation. Happy Holidays to you both!

#breakfast food Hey Brian, The Prevent and reverse heart disease cookbook by Ann Esselstyn has a waffle recipe. It's basically oats mashed with a banana, some non dairy milk, 2 T of ground flaxseeds, some orange zest and a t of vanilla extract. Cook for 8 minutes on waffle iron, don't peak. They put fruit on top but I'd seriously have to put a small amount of maple syrup.
