I sit down with Dr. Quinn Yost. Dr. Yost trained as a pediatric dentist to have the opportunity to help patients be healthier. He was disappointed with how traditional dentistry subjected patients to a repetitive cycle of: cleanings, exams, x-rays, and fillings, only to return the next year and do it all over again. Rinse and repeat. Using a collaboration of science, nutrition, oral care habits, and modern technologies Dr. Yost aims to use cutting edge treatments paired with teaching to eliminate a child’s cavities for life.

My granddaughter had two abscess we gave her cell salts and stoped the sugary foods. It cured the abscesses. We didn’t take the tooth out or fill it because the dentist was so bad here she wouldn’t work with us because my grand daughter was scared and resistant. So we search the internet about what to do. Now three years later no issue the next set of teeth came in no problem. My sister who was a hygienist stated that the abscess if left untreated would destroy the next tooth before it comes in. Well it didn’t. So we really love and use cell salts for tooth decay.

My first job as a dentist was in Switzerland in 1970. This was the preventive message then. Finland has had a preventive xylitol program in preschools as part of a Public Health measure for over 50 years. The mystery is why the Swiss and Finnish people knew this 50 years ago and the US is only just learning about xylitol and easy home care prevention. As an oral health educator it has been incredibly difficult to create change in the mindset of the dental profession in the US- to get dentists to believe cavities are reversible. I'm glad, like you, that we are seeing change!

Thank you so much, Drs. Ellie and Quinn! I so appreciate all you do to help people with their dental health. Do you have a video out that specifically instructs people on an eating/drinking schedule, in as far as how that should interface with the xylitol schedule? Btw, I adore Zellies - I just have the Cherry Berry so far, and it is delicious! Do you have Lemon Zellies (I even love the sound of that!)?

Basic xylitol instructions are to have at least 6-7 grams per day in small divided doses throughout the day of 1 gram each (it is not necessary to take any more than 10 grams per day, in any case). Take a dose after every meal, snack or drink of liquid, and then do not eat or drink anything else for at least 1 hour or more. Right before bed is an excellent time to take xylitol (and then no more eating or drinking).

I just wish that I had known about you and get educated about all this 30 years ago or at least 10 years ago when I had my 1st child. No dentist that I’ve seen including my kids current pediatric ever educated nor mentioned about any of this early preventative ever. They are horrible. I felt so dump and naive until point. My kids are now suffering like me. We have been doing your system for a couple weeks now and pushing the use of xylitol. I hope this will stop all our dental issues for life. Thanks for your education.

WOW. Thanks for this great conversation and interview. Some of your stories have given me flashbacks to my childhood and also alludes to possible reasons for my current teeth conditions….after thinking I was doing the right thing for the last 45 years; I’m now 60. Apparently I was an ecc child and of course I or my parents didn’t know it. Also, my diet change to a plant based diet over ten years ago may have expedited my current teeth problems as I didn’t do anything different with my oral hygiene. Before discovering your information I have been using salt water rinses throughout the day and cleaning more thoroughly. Now I will incorporate your system as well. Thank you

My son is only 5 years old and the dentist want to take a baby tooth out and put fillings, crowns / NSF fluoride in others baby teeth and in general the teeth does not look that bad. that is crazy... I wonder if there is a pediatric dentist like Dr Quinn in SC? We are in desperate need for a better kid dentist. other question is about his teeth are too close together and this seems one of the root problem or it is a myth?

Here is a detailed comment that Dr. Ellie left someone else down below here: "This infection- called Early Childhood Caries (ECC) is also an epidemic in America & among children worldwide - even families who eat organic foods and are otherwise very healthy. Many parents are confused about ECC. It is an infection - a disease - caused by an aggressive bacteria. XYLITOL will eliminate these bacteria in about a month. In Russia you should be able to access granular xylitol (birch sugar) and either make a drink by dissolving a teaspoon in 4 ounces of water for the toddler, or give a quarter teaspoon of crystals directly to your child - to eat- from a spoon. The most effective is frequent xylitol in small amounts throughout the day - x4 or x5 during the day - and ALWAYS last thing before sleeping. "Disinfect the child's toothbrush by allowing the child's brush to air dry for 24 hours between uses (bacteria die when they dry). Remember that ECC is a transferrable bacterial infection - in the spit/saliva of the mouth. Parents and grandparents should follow the same routines at least for a few months, to ensure they are not the source of the infection. If you can find Crest Cavity Protection paste, to use alongside this xylitol therapy - this is one paste that works brilliantly and in synergy with xylitol. The xylitol will stop the infection and this paste is the best for healing cavities. It is a simple sodium fluoride paste, with silica and without any glycerin. Wipe or brush a tiny amount onto the surface of any damaged teeth and then after a minute wash off with water. I hope this helps. I am sorry this happened for your family. Please share the xylitol message with pregnant women and other families. Simply wipe xylitol on erupting baby teeth - and this will totally prevent this disease."

It would be okay if you followed the lemon water immediately with some xylitol. This goes for any acidic drink
@SunrayStar
@SunrayStar 7 ай бұрын
Yes, like the other commenter said, except you would still not want to be sipping lemon water over and over throughout the day; that is too much sipping going on. Dr. Ellie says do not sip throughout the day. Instead, get most of your liquid drinking done alongside your meals. This is to leave your mouth free of food or drink for as many hours as possible, to interact uninterrupted with your saliva that heals your teeth (after using xylitol).

Dr Ellie, I react badly to any products using xylitol even chewy gum, I get stomach cramps and feel quite unwell. I have checked this many times and have concluded that xylitol is not for me. Do you have an alternative? I have heard that swishing an Iodine rinse in mouth kills the bad bacteria? Your thoughts please. And would the xylitol still work if I rinse my mouth completely after brushing?
@Julie-rz4eh
@Julie-rz4eh Жыл бұрын
What about letting a teaspoon or less dissolve in your mouth, swishing it around and spitting it out? I too get stomach aches, bloating etc with xylitol but I'm trying the above to get myself used to it and hoping I can take the mints someday.
@SunrayStar
@SunrayStar 7 ай бұрын
No, you absolutely cannot rinse your mouth after putting xylitol into it, or it will do you no good to use the xylitol. You can, however, spit it out after swishing with it for 2-5 minutes. You just will not get the added benefit of it serving as a prebiotic for your beneficial gut bacteria, but it sounds like you are having issues with your gut at this time, anyway.

If we use your mouth care system and don't have any mouth issues is it necessary to get yearly cleanings for the family? How about yearly x-rays?
@SunrayStar
@SunrayStar 7 ай бұрын
Probably not, on either front. Dr. Ellie says to improve your mouth health on her system and then later on at a dental visit, ask the dentist if you NEED a cleaning. Also, she said her own grown children only go to a dentist for routine checkups every 2-3 years and may or may not have an x-ray done just to check dental health.

@@serjbulanov Please stay in touch. Xylitol is amazing for children's teeth. My mission in life is to get this message out to pregnant mothers around the world. For the cost of one bag of granular xylitol - cost about $25 you will have enough xylitol to protect your infant from this disease ( one pound should be enough for a year - one teaspoon per day total) The best time to start as new teeth emerge into the mouth ( your child will have adult teeth coming in the mouth around age 5 at the back of the baby teeth - so you have time to prepare your toddlers mouth and get it healthy in advance of this). A new mother should wipe her infant's erupting teeth regularly during the day x4 or x5. It does not matter when. There is no need to wipe teeth after nighttime feeding. This is how you protect the baby from the horrible and tooth damage of ECC - for twenty five dollars! Help me get this message out to the world! Thank you for your interest :)

@dr.elliephillips
@dr.elliephillips 4 ай бұрын
Human tooth enamel is amazing. It can repair itself using minerals from our mouth’s salivary liquids. The main problem is not so much what we eat - or don’t eat. Problems stem from not allowing our saliva adequate TIME to heal our teeth AFTER eating. Too many times people dilute the healing saliva liquid by sipping tea, coffee, and even water - between meals, too often, sometimes for hours. This dilutes the healing saliva and makes it impotent. Wrong modern oral care can also strip away our teeth’s natural biofilm protection.

Look for Zellies mints and gum on Amazon. If you have dry mouth, look for Dr. Heff's xylitol mints. There are a few choices of flavor in the Zellie's line available -and more coming! Dr. Ellie does state you can use xylitol crystals (if not in this video, then in others). You need about a teaspoon a day, which is about 5 grams. Divide that up into 4 or 5 doses throughout the day after eating and before bed. I just started this about 10 days ago, and my teeth are already smoother and a sheet of plaque or tarter fell off the inside of my front teeth. Usually the dental hygienist has to scrape that off during teeth cleaning. I get that because I drink coffee. Never had that before drinking coffee.

About 5 months ago, Dr. Ellie answered someone else's question about products they could substitute in the UK. In case you can get any of these where you live, here is what she said: Ultradex = Closys Oral B 1-2-3 = toothpaste Fluorigard = ACT Zellies will be on Amazon UK soon Also, regarding the xylitol, you actually need to get at least 6-7 grams per day in doses of about 1 gram each. If you get fewer than 5g, then the xylitol will likely not do a whole lot for you. You do not need to eat more than 10g per day, in any case. Yes, xylitol from non gmo corn is excellent. Do not dilute it in water or food; put it in your mouth straight and swish it around for 2-5 minutes before swallowing the "spit liquid", and then do not eat or drink anything else for at least 1-2 hours or longer.
