Knowing what I know now about Q’s intentions in S2, this was actually a damn nice thing he did.

Not really. Q's involvement, in an effort to "test" Picard, resulted in Kore, angry over the implication that she was a science experiment, destroying her father's work, which resulted in him revitalizing Project: Khan. Basically, Q's action would lead to the Eugenics War, followed by WW3. The irony is that those events would lead to First Contact with the Vulcans, thus paving away everything else. Even more ironic is that the reason why Project: Khan was delayed, was due to interference by Romulan agents, based on an episode from STRANGE NEW WORLDS. Thus, in a way, Q's involvement course corrects historical events.

This episode is a combination of "Smallville" (Kore/lab experiments and the assimilated ex-Special Forces Army) and "The X-Files" (FBI/Agent Wells scenes). Last week it was a cross-over between "Supernatural" (Guinan's exorcism of Q), "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (Talinn fought a warlock/monster) and "The X-Files" (Agent Wells arrested Picard and Guinan). The main point is that: "Picard" is no longer a Trek series, but a "wall-of-the weird" genetic sci-fi series 😕

@@drumkommandr9779 Pretty sure AR glasses can't take a 2D video and translate it into a 3D environment on the fly. To say nothing of filling in information of objects from other angles than was in the original 2D frame. It's right up there with interstellar transporters and 'super blood' from JJ's movies.

As shown in the other clip this season, it's because he and the entire Continuum is dying. Somehow he blames Picard/humanity for causing it, hence we got the vengeful Q we have now.

@@LGranthamsHeir I don't think he is vengeful, he said the trap is immaterial, the escape is what matters. Picard's 'escape' will fix what needs to be done. He tried to work with Picard at first and Picard shut that down, so he was doing things on his own. It will be interesting to see how he is playing all sides to get the needed outcome.

@@LGranthamsHeir Surely if anyone's to blame, it's Captain Janeway. After all it was she who approved the euthanasia of another Q in the episode Death Wish (s02 e18), against Q's wishes, which marked the first "mercy killing" of a member of their species and led to a major rift in the Continuum.

@@jamesgravil9162 Good call. Thanks for pointing this out. Janeway's actions seemed to cause a lot of long-term damage to the Federation. Her decisions to create new weapons and armory from Borg tech eventually backfired, given what happened abroad the Stargazer earlier. Her decisions during "Year of Hell" should also resulted in her getting court-martialed o at least removed from command. But with the time reset the writers wiped all of them clean 😉

The best historical analogy I can think of is Columbus, who discovered the New World by accident (not unlike the crew of Voyager) and got off on a bad foot with the tribes he came across, to put it mildly. And the people who followed in his footsteps were even worse. I suspect any diplomats the Federation sent to that part of the galaxy later on got a lukewarm reception at best. "Oh, you're from the Federation? Don't tell me you're on the same side as that b***h Janeway who almost destroyed our planet!"

Star Trek is set in a different universe. 1992 Eugenics wars etc. Mars missions prior to 2020. It's a very similar society but it is technologically more advanced.
