Just wanted to chime in with my experience with the 7AT in my 2016 V37 Red Sport awd. This is my 5th Infiniti vehicle owned, I'm a huge fan of supporting mods first. My first two bolt ons were a solid transmission mount from Drop Bear Performance LLC. I had no idea how much torque i was losing due to the flexing of the OEM mount. My follow up bolt on was a transmission cooler. I sourced a cooler kit from a regional company out of Florida, and i also installed a trans temp gauge. With my cooler install i opted to bypass the oem fluid path, which routes through the radiator, and instead directly into the cooler. I thought this was the best route to take, i was wrong. It's started to cool off big time coming into the fall, i live just south of Atlanta. Last week i started the car to get her warmed up. My trans temp was quite low to have been idling for almost ten minutes. First grade was slipping, but i took it easy and got the temp up to nominal range. So on Saturday i decided to remove the aux cooler from the trans fluid path all together and route the fluid back to the oem path, and decided to keep my temp gauge just to see what kind of fluctuations i would see in the oem fluid path. I learned a lot about the powertrain in the last 72 hours. My first mistake was the size of the cooler, i believe it is at least a 19 row single pass tube and fin type, second mistake was the size of the lines going into the cooler, they were -10AN far to large, considering the oem lines are 8-9mm I.D. The wildcard for my data logging is the ambient temperatures since it's now fall and we barely saw 60+° highs over the weekend. The temps ranged from 173° doing 80+mph in 4th gear in Sport+ to right around 193° at idle sitting in the drive through. In the summer i expect temps to fluctuate very radically. So with $400 wasted on the cooler kit, i decided to build my own kit. I'm waiting on it to be delivered. I decided to go with Mishimoto, i opted for a 10 row fluid cooler with -6AN lines. It's smaller, won't obstruct the oem oil cooler or the cooling stack behind it, and the -6AN lines are almost the same I.D. as the oem cooler lines. I also plan on installing it in tandem. Hopefully some enthusiasts will read this post before they make a costly investment that is unnecessary, like i did. @look.its.squirrel

Nice info dude! (former Q50 owner here, still love all Q's) I agree I think the 7AT holds up fairly well especially 2016+ VR30 models. From what I have read they use a much larger torque converter than older VQ cars. I gotta say the biggest thing I wish was possible was dedicated transmission software for the 7AT. In the German tuning space you have XHP for BMW (offers various levels of support for increased output) same thing VW/Audi there are plenty of options for TCU/DSG tunes with really impressive features that can be tailored to the individuals taste. Transmission logic is dramatically improved, faster shift points, increased clutch clamping pressure, launch control etc. The transmission is the only thing standing in my way of getting back into the Infiniti/Nissan world. Can it hold to respectable power levels? in my opinion yes.. but once you get used to that immediate response out of the paddles and that satisfying ignition cut on upshifts you just cant go back. I'm sure you have noticed a difference with the new C63 Mercedes. Cheers man! keep up the great content

Would love if Nissan would put the new 9 speed in the last iteration of the q50/q60. Most people don’t realize that the 7speed and now the new 9 speed from Nissan share some design with Mercedes Benz transmission. That’s why whenever Mercedes comes out with a new transmission, Nissan eventually gets the same configuration. Would upgrade my G to the Q if they changed that 7 speed to 9

@Klooney9mm3 жыл бұрын
I'm thinking eventually the Z could get the option for a new DCT like Mercedes 7G. I think that paired with the VR30 would be a great option. And of course means its a option for people looking for something with a DCT. I don't really see a downside to having it available.

Infinity corrected the turbo failure problem in the 2018 model and up, but the 2016 to 2017 had turbo failure problems. Some people say that the standard 2016 turbos are OK until you modify them but at a certain point maybe 100,000 miles or less you have to replace the turbos. Yours being a 2017 model how are you dealing with this issue especially since your car is modified?

Hey Boost, it would be really nice if you could help us AWD VQ Q50 owners with swapping the VR30 7AT in. I'm currently in a terrible predicament where I am soon to receive shipment of my supercharger kit which I'll be installing, except I cannot bare the thought of doing this whole project without swapping the transmission for the newer VR. I know how to do quite literally every single thing required for the swap except for front and rear driveshaft compatibility. Basically nobody on the internet will help me with this one thing. Again, I'm not asking anything in regards to any of the other requirements for the swap, I already understand them and I am fully capable of doing it all. What I really need to know is if there is a spacer for the front shaft available for sale somewhere; and who or where makes the necessary aftermarket rear driveshaft. Because obviously the front driveshaft will be too short and the rear driveshaft will be too long. I really need some help on this.
