Samsung Galaxy S9 vs. S9+: More Differences Than Usual!

I think the regular s9 is the perfect size, a 5.8 screen is still huge for a phone and it fits perfectly in the hand, I could care less about a second photo lens I’m not going to take pictures from super far away and the regular s9 still has an amazing camera with the same features, also 4gb of ram is more then enough, I don’t ever have a bunch of apps open at once, at most I’ll have KZbin, Facebook, Snapchat, instagram, and either the internet browser or my music app open at the same time and I don’t need even 4gb for just that. Plus you save over 100 bucks on it so for me the regular s9 is the best. I just upgraded from the red iPhone 7 to the coral blue s9:)

I prefer the S9. Simply because it's smaller, easier to carry, easier to hold in one hand and you can easly put the phone in pretty much every pocket. I think that's how smartphones are supposed to be in the first place. S9+ is more like a mini-tablet than a smartphone.

As I mentioned I like the bigger phones I have a Note 8 and I really like it. I'm in construction so I like the bigger screen,typing emails, texting, but thats my personal needs. I don't know why they try and force you when it's not your thing, I can't believe I'm saying this since I'm 100% Android but maybe that IphoneX might be an option since it is smallish in comparision to 6.2 Gallaxy or 6.3 Note. I don't know if you have tried a Note but I can't live without the stylus its much faster when you have construction nubs for fingers. Good Luck

Tim Pearson that's the other problem I have with the + phones. The note is basically the same size but does even more. I am thinking about getting the s9+, but it seems almost dumb since the new note will be out in a few months for roughly the same price.

I'm with you. I do think this trend is created by the phone companies padding the bottom line. Finally I got a belt hoist to carry the darn thing as in Note or S, which solves the discomfort of carrying a big phone but sure has a better imho experience in use.

IKnowNothing it's not ground breaking things though. The secondary camera is just a 2x optical zoom lens so it can zoom in with better detail and the extra 2GB of ram would only be useful if you have shit loads of apps open. The bigger screen cancels out the bigger battery a bit. But other than that you'd be hard pressed to find differences in performance. If they had differnt SoC's and the S9+ was noticeably faster then I'd complain.

Smaller phones have more restrictions. Are you suggesting they should artificially restrict the larger phone to maintain parity. I agree they could have given equal RAM on both but things like bigger battery and extra camera makes sense as there's more room to put those things in the larger phone.

Just ordered the S9. My reason for the S9 over the S9 plus is really, practicality. I currently have the S7 (not the plus) I really like it in terms of size and features, but the battery is pretty screwed. I love samsung mobile devices as they connect effortlessly to the rest of my many I.T. based products and I am so used to how their overlayed OS functions, there aren't many that are going to come close to the effortless opperation I currently have with my Samsung mobile devices. I thought about the S9+ but then my sinsible side says I have a laptop computer, a mac tower, a DSLR and so the extra size of the handset and additional 2gb of RAM really isn't required for me. I'm "That Guy" who closes apps and windows as they go. The most I ever have open at once is 2 apps and as for VR, they give me the worst migranes, but VR was designed with the s7 and that works fine, so if things did get better, I could still run VR stuff on the standard 9. The S7 camera was/is really amazing and the S9 is a huge improvement, if I desperately want to get amzing pictures, I will take my DSLR, but the standard features and quality on the S9 are more than perfect as a casual point and shoot. I intend to use it for more live streams to be honest and so I really think the S9 is going to be just fine. A lot to say here i know, but 4gb or ram is massive. 6gb, for my purposes is beyond silly for waht is a portable point and should plus a means of communication. Will clash of clans run? yes. Ok I'm also happy in my casual time wasting game time too :) Whichever you choose, the S9 IS THE phone of 2018 so far, forget Huawei. the reviews (by trusted people) still put the s9 at the top. The only possibe alternative for me was the Sony xz2 Premium, but as the XZ" Premium isn't being released in the UK (accurate at time of post), I will happily stay S9. Remember folks, always purchase what is right for you, not what people think is right for everyone. :)

Joel Nunez the camera is the same bro, the plus doesn’t have a better camera, the only difference is they added a second camera which has the sole purpose of letting you zoom out further for pictures, but are you really going to be taking pictures form super far away to where you need a second lens? Most likely not so paying an extra 120 just for that and an extra 2gb of ram that you’re not going to need is a waste of money the regular s9 is perfect

I'm leaning towards the S9 Plus (Coming from a S7 Edge) but I just wish the internal memory was also increased from the base size of 64gigs. I do plan on getting a microSD card anyway, It would have just been nice. Overall I think the S9 is a great value as they could have easily raised the price $100 on both models since Apple kind of normalized the $1000 smart phone.

I love my S9. It's as big as a phone needs to be, and is no doubt easier to reach across the screen with one hand operation. Very fast, and the battery easily lasts all day even when I use it to play music all day at work (9 hours at least continuous).

Just played with the s9+ at the Samsung store. Played with the auto translate and it’s surprising. Translated some txt messages directly from my phone screen. It also feels small. It’s a nice phone.

Always great videos. Once concern I carry over (and I use an LG G6 currently) is the huge area of glass per breaking/dropping. The cases must still expose the sides; and only recently it seems that screen protectors are moving toward fitting the designs on the S8 and S9 series phones. So still looking at Pixel 2 XL (in the summer maybe for discounts), or the LG offerings upcoming. How do you feel about the protections needed for the S series phones?

Screens have become so high-res now, it'd be stupid for PPI to affect your decision. You can't discern the pixels on a 5.8in / 6.2in 2960x1440 screen without holding it unnaturally close to your eye

After looking at other reviewers and pretty much asking myself if those "new features" will be utilized to the fullest extend my me, I am changing my mind and keeping my s8 plus. I have enjoyed my s8 plus because of the battery and I don't use all the camera feature of the s8 plus. What makes me think I will use it with the s9 plus. And the picture quality isn't that much different. You have to look very close to see a speck of difference.

And the camera on the s9 is amazing and just as good as the plus. The second lens is pointless unless you plan on taking photos from super far away way and need a 2x zoom. For regular pictures and videos you will never need that. So save the money and get the regular s9:) its great

Great comparison. Thx for the video. The new S9 series looks very appealing with the new updates. However, I just hate that Samsung is creating a trade-off between portability and performance with the new S9 phones (Even though the S9 seems capable enough on paper). I don't know much about their market data, but it would have made more sense if the company released one S9 phone this year with a 6" screen and the S9+ specs (Similar to what Samsung did with the S7 edge, which had a form factor in between the previous S6 and S6+). Doing so would have made choice easier for consumers, relatively differentiated the S9 line from the previous S8 line (due to the use of almost identical design and form factors), and reduced the possibility of the S9+ competing for sales with the upcoming Note 9 due to its similar screen size and relatively competitive price. Finally, I noticed that Samsung stopped caring about device weight and dimensions. Galaxy S phones keep getting thicker and heavier each year. I am starting to wonder if Samsung is trying promote some sort of realistic body image 🤔

I went for the S9. The extra screen space on the Plus isn't enough to make a lot of difference in use, but it does happen to be big enough that typing with one hand would be awkward for me, whereas the s9 is perfect size for my hand. I need to be able to use my phone with one hand, and that alone is a huge factor for me. The only thing I want from the Plus is the bigger battery, but such is life.

Asian Lion absolutely not true. It makes a huge difference. Look at Note8 vs S8. Why is Note8 faster and have smoother performance. Why is OP5T so fast in speedtests. Yes, optimalisation but also ram management. 4GB needs to be cleared everytime and Android makes the choice which app will be closed. S9+ beats iPhone X and Pixel 2 in speedtests because of that extra ram. Apps don't need to reload which make the phone faster.

I have the regular s9 and always have about 2gb of free ram available and I use my phone a lot. Dont waste money for a useless extra 2gb of ram you wont need

AirForce Gamer Ever used S8. Ram management is not great and maybe you can open 8 apps simultaneously but when phone goes to standby and after some hours, more apps needs to be reloaded. But S9 does a great job according to some reviews so I think Samsung has done some optimalisation. Right now I have S9+ and most apps I use never reload so it feels much faster. I can type something in the comments right now, close KZbin and type further next morning.

Garret141076 why would I ever have a bunch of apps open and then leave my phone on standby for a few hours? I have the s9 and I always have 6-8 apps open max. I never need more then that. My phone never lags and my phone never has to reload them. And lets say worst case scenario one day a few of them did reload. It takes a couple seconds to reload them it's not that serious. And its definitely not worth over an extra 100 just to have a couple extra apps open at the same time. The most ram I've used is 3gb and that's with Facebook, Instagram, KZbin, spotify, Google maps,Netflix, snapchat, and the internet browser open all at once. So yeah I dont know what else I would need open to use more ram lol

I cannot justify the extra £130 (I think) for the bigger version just for a 2X zoom and portrait mode (not much of a selfie taker). Sure I’d like the bigger screen but compared to the phone I’m currently using the S9 is over a full inch taller so I’ll have no complaints about that.. The couple of points that are getting to me though is the bigger batty and the extra RAM. Will the battery life and RAM on the S9 be more than enough or will I regret it in the long run?? Any advice would be very appreciated

Robz0104 i changed from iphone 6s to s9 and all i can say the ram is excellent if u dont plan on heavy multitasking. Just make sure to always close the app once in a while . Battery life last all day long if light use. But with heavy usage it will usually last 8-9 hours

Great video! I'm disappointed Samsung made the + superior. I've upgraded my Galaxy every year to the latest model. I use a tablet when lounging so prefer the compact phone version for pocket size. The ram difference is with the + might sway me but I'm not happy

The screen of Galaxy S9 looked cooler and seemed to actually have a bluish tint when viewed at an angle compared to S9+. I wonder if that is an issue with all S9s, or with only some devices

Sure, there's a slight difference other than the size this year. But if you break it down: There isn't really a difference at all, for some people. I never ever take photos. Ever. I take screenshots however (masturbation-purposes), so for me that dual lense is redundant. It really is. I have the iPhone 7 plus now, and that also have the dual cam, with that double zoom thing. I've probably used it 3 times..... Sure 2GB of RAM more is probably the only upper hand the S9+ have. But considering the iPhone 7, 8 and X have 3GB of RAM and the S9 have 4.... I'm good. The screen size difference of the S9 and the S9+ is so small, you'll forget it once you hold one of the phones. S9+ = Too big. S9 = A smaller phone than any iPhone Plus version, yet bigger screen.... Breaking it down like this: S9 is the better option for me. I never take pictures, I'm extremely satisfied with the speed and performance on my 3GB RAM current Phone....so 4GB is enough upgrade (if I even needed that). So there you go: Don't take pictures? save yourself some money. Adding in that in most s9 vs s9+ speed tests, they are pretty similar.

I want the S9 with the S10+ camera but would accept the S9+. Haha. Cricket only offers the 9. Ugh. I'm changing providers and Verizon is nice however I really don't want to pay the monthly cost of service plus phone fee would leave me paying $145 a month or MORE with taxes.. A little cheaper signing up with Verizon through Best Buy. Decisions..

This video had a lot that i found useful compared to any other video on KZbin. Thx I will get the + Black. Other than black colors are distracting on average use, You are able to see often the annoying colors of the phone in normal use compared to mifnight black.
