Qgis Tutorial : Visualize Block Models in 3D

Thanks, great information as usual. I'm an exploration geologist based in Australia. I use Surpac for modelling, big $$, powerful, but very clunky :( , however I am finding that QGIS software and 3D extensions are allowing me to demonstrate my 3D models etc. with clients and others that don't own a mining software package. You have to be a bit cunning in your approach and use some hacks sometimes, but at least the means to do this are there, and it is often possible to change the source code itself, if all else fails. I have been following the Oslandia GitLab page with interest- they seem to be developing the Geoscience plugin now. Hope your plugin development is going well, it's hard work developing software!

Thank you @Laurie for your comment! yes, you are right it is weird that there are no free tools at least to do basic things. I, ve made my own tools and scripts for a while now which got me thinking why not make my own tool? Hello- great video. Im a mining geo moving into more exploration so trying to get a hang of these 2d packages. this is very helpful. My question is: is there a way to display block model data on the section? I watched your "display in 3d/section" video, but when making sections I didnt get a tick box to display the model? BTW my model is huge and not displaying at all so perhaps I have done something wrong, it comes up in the layers section but never on screen? Thanks

Hello Charles, thank you for your comment actually i m planning to make a geological modelling tool that integrates with Qgis, i want to take it all the way to resource estimation. it is a huge project currently i m working on a prototype that will help me to get the attention of some sponsors.

@Mining Geologist is it possible to export this block model as anything other than a .csv ? DXF for example using the python QGIS interface?

You can export the scene as an html web page but you can't export it to DXF

Hello Downstream, thank you for your comment. I think it is possible since the attribute table can act as an excel sheet so basically you have the block dimension , the grade so with the density you can make an expression that does exactly what you wanted.

a CSV file of course since Qgis cannot handle the native format of the mining packages, at least for now
