Gaining familiarity and confidence with a staff takes a while. One of the ways to make the process smoother and more joyous is to simply learn a few basic moves that are used frequently in Qigong and then practice them repeatedly before learning your first Flow Series.

Take your time and feel free to go far slower than I show in the video. Slower moves gives your neurology more time to experience the more subtle aspects of each movement.

Just found this today and decided to give it a go. I will be 60 in a few months, suffer from vertigo and Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, so most strenuous stuff is difficult. Made it half way through before my arms and shoulders felt like they were being ripped apart. Tomorrow I hope to last a little longer. Fantastic work out, and way cool. Thank you. More please.

Hello Sir, I am 62 years old and my shoulders are a bit blocked. In front of all the techniques proposed on KZbin it is difficult to choose those which will be the most effective. I chose yours because you inspire me confidence and I really do not regret when I see the results. Thank you very much.

I'm just discovering this art form. I see there are different size sticks. I found one here in Australia that is 120cm long and comes in 3 sections for easy travel. Can you possibly elaborate on the use of the smaller size in terms of the movements done on this video with the longer size? I assume I can use the 120cm for most of what I see here as long as I have the necessary flexibility in my shoulders.

I use a wide variety of sticks of various sizes. They range from 12 inches up to 5 feet. If you look at other videos of mine you will find the Double Ball Staff, the Tai Chi Bang, the Tai Chi Ruler, and different length and thickness of staffs. Some I purchased, some I made for myself from limbs. Unlike systems that like to believe there is one "correct" length for a staff...in our Primal Nature Play System of Essential Movement Practices we teach our students to create, improvise, customize, modify, and adapt. We use whatever we have to do whatever we want to do. So feel free to use whichever length and width suits you. Use any kind of wood or steel that works for you. Remember that Your Are the Guru.
