This match went exactly how I thought it would. I really like Zheng but she needs to up her aggression, meaning more coming to the net, serving and volleying, etc. Also, she took too long to get "fired up" and by the time she did, it was way too late. You gotta storm out of the gate against Sabalenka.
@benthekeeshond545

Not many players can do that. For Sabalenka to lose, her opponent has to be able to pressure her with groundstrokes. If Sabalenka serves well, forget it. If Sabalenka's opponent does not serve well, Sabalenka's returns are brutal. The only 2 players trouble Sabalenka are Iga and Elena.

totally agree, tho Zheng has such a stronger mentality compared to Sabalenka. If she had started a but more aggressive, she would have shaken Sabalenka’s mind, and that’s where she would create big problems to her. Sabalenka is known now to be mentally steady.

Zheng didn't play badly but Sabalenka was just too much game today. Her serve was working well, good first serve percentage, her return is the best in the game currently. Quinwen is great but at this point Sabalenka is just too free flowing with her ground game and going for her shots no matter what. Also solid that she choked away 3 match points and didn't let it stop her from moving forward and still going for it.

As she has proven on numerous occasions, Sabalenka can be the most dominating figure on the women's tour. She has the game to win on any surface, including clay, where several years back she was killing it in Madrid and Rome, at times blowing good players off the court. She turns 26 in May, just before the French Open, and, health allowing, she has a great chance to take more majors this year. Even all of them! Consistency, of course, is a critical factor, and sometimes she just gets sloppy or distracted or loses concentration. IMO, she got psyched out by Gauff in the last US Open. Love to see her win at Roland Garros, as a nice change of pace from Iga. The shrieking IS obnoxious, and in fact I am not a big fan of hers, but her physical abilities have to be acknowledged. Consecutive AO championships -- that is something fellow Belarussian Azarenka achieved in 2012-13. Congrats, Aryna. Big win.

Zheng played well for her debut final .. Obviously it was always going to be how Sabalenka plays (as she had too much firepower) ; especially mentally as she is prone to falter and committing unforced errors especially double faults but she seems to have improved. Total domination from Sabalenka at this AO. Zheng really did the best she could at her first Grand Slam final vs an opponent that was red hot the entire tournament. Aryna was destined to win it all after winning vs Coco in straight sets. What a flawless performance. She had only 10 double-faults this entire tournament and zero in this final. That was unbelievable. The thing that impressed me the most was her mentality and her composure. In total control from beginning to end. It was a bit wobbly in the final game and she showed a bit of frustration but only after the points. As soon as she stepped up to the line to serve, she got right back to her elements. Very well-deserved win for Aryna and many more to come.

My conclusion of watching this is real tennis fans really need to watch full match. The HL supposedly shows nice shots, but totally failed to tell the story. Looks at the number of Zheng winners, it looks like an even match, which is far from the truth. Sabalenka won pretty comfortable and forced Zheng to go for broke. Hopefully Zheng can learn from this and win a major in the future. Out hitting Sabalanka and Rybakina is possible, but probably not the best strategy.

she is deliberatly distracting her opponent with that noice! No other player does it like she does. It is not allowed but tolerated. Zheng got overwhelmed by the occasion. She's a great player so likely her time will come. Sabalenka is a great player also, so congrats to her and her team. However, she's a remarkably immature person, so hopefully she can add a good -- not just ANY -- mental coach to her team. She seems so likeable as a person, but still so immature as a player... not sure what's going on there.

How is she immature as a player? Honest question. She faced her serving woes head on, refused to accept her coach's tendered resignation (in stark contrast to the many players who go through coaches like changes of clothing), FIRED her sports psychologist and brought on a biomechanics guy to do the hard work of fixing her very broken serve, rebuilding it, basically - hugely difficult after years of muscle memory. She had double faults in the double digits two years ago and this year she averages 1.4 A MATCH. All that to me indicates maturity as both a player and a person, but maybe there's something I'm not aware of.

Is grunting a strategy to mess the other player up or is it something else? Because it seems like sabalenka is benefiting a lot from the ridiculously loud and long grunts besides helping her put power behind her hits…

It doesn’t help her put power behind her shots. A lot of great players, men and women, have had powerful groundstrokes without that ridiculous noise. It’s BS, rude, and she should be embarrassed.

Gran torneo de Sabalenka sin perder ni un set, pero pensé que la china le iba a presentar mas pelea al final fue como un partido mas para la bielorrusa

lopsided match, aryna overpowers qinwen, had qinwen mixed up her shots to throw aryna off rhthym, maybe that will work, some drop shot did work well. In the woman circuit as of now, i dont see anyone whacks ball harder than aryna.

Físicamente es muy fuerte Sabalenka y si bien ese no es un factor decisivo, si contribuye , la fuerza física junto con su técnica ofensiva la hacen muy difícil de contener para chicas menos fuertes.

Many say it was a very poor match to be a women's GS final meeting, but I think both players put on the court what they had to, beyond the final result. Zheng was very aggressive with her serve, winning many points with this, and even Sabalenka won at the end, she should fought in several times to win her serving points, playing some interesting rallies, with a variety of shots.

Congrats to both players. I need to say this for sabalenka Hier scream is very exaggerated and she even continues doing it when her opponent is about to hit the ball. A little bit annoying😮

Zheng got lucky top players Rybakina and Swiatek lost early. She didn't play any top players until the final. She unfortunately too overwhelmed and nervous.
