Léon Jehae how munch memory can you reserve for vms ? are you running vms on it ?

@@polyproyl Almost all of the memory if you want. I use VM-MS exchange 2019 with 16GB (only 3 mailboxes), VM-PRTG on windows 2019 server with 8GB, VM-HASSIO with 1GB, VM-PFsense with 2GB and a VM-Windows10 desktop enviroment with another 8GB and still have ROON en PLEX running flawless outside of VrtualizationStation. Just ordered the QM2 4P-384 with 4TB NvMe and an (extra) Aquantia 2x10Gbe nic to get it even faster. (TVS872) Big disadvantage : When the QNAP crashes you have literally nothing left, so i plan to move Pfsense back to my hardware firewall again.

Hello, I intend to go for one of the x72xt family units, possibly the 472xt, and I would like to confirm if the GTX1650 low profile graphic card would work. It seems to be a much better upgrade compared to the old GTX1050ti, but I could not confirm in the QNPA webpage that the newer version would actually work. Any clues?

I installed 2X 16GB Crucial 2666 modules, now after a couple of weeks my HybridDesk station isn't working, still trying to get it fixed, this is the only thing I changed so could be the culprit, just a word of warning.

Does this work with a fresh uninitialized Qnap aswell.? And setup the Firmware and System Later.? And how munch memory can you allocate to the virtual Machines ? Did you do a testrun meanwhile ? Running 2,3,4 VMS silmultaneously with each 8 Gigs? I want to consolidate my File and VM Server and thought of getting this model with 64gigs or the ryzen series Qnap. Best regards

My question is how stable is it? You are running more than spec. so is there a memory test like you use with a computer to stress test the memory?

Just ordered 2 of Kingston SODIMM DDR4 16GB 3200Mhz FURY Impact Black and now wondering will they work at all...

Just for those curious, the memory worked great but no advantages of 3200Mhz as it anyways works at 2400Mhz :) Not sure perhaps upgrading the CPU to something like i7 or i9 will help with this but I'm skeptical and think there are some limitations in the NAS motherboard itself. The memory is double rank by the way.

Thank you ! I asked for this specific video a couple of days back ... now I have no excuse for postponing the purchase ... even if I am not totally sure of what amma gonna do with all this Ram ... maybe another video will follow, with a few suggestions ? :-D

Léon Jehae for the time being I need only one on windows 7, that seems to be running ok with 2 cores and 8 GB of Ram. Plenty to run basic stuff. If I upgrade to 32 GB in total, I could dedicate 16 to the VM and 16 to the NAS ...

Simple dont buy a synology, build your own. Dont ever get locked into someones elses B.S. None of this ram is ECC so no error correction, it does become an option, if you build your own. Your just renting the system, they can do anything to you, brick your system make you pay for stuff they own it not you.

You can run other operating systems on this specific model if you wish, eg TrueNAS, so IMO from that perspective, you own the hardware and can control the software stack.
